Peebles Bay Keller Studio Changes Hands in Carey

H B Keller sells Keller Memorial Studio to Robert and Samuel Peebles of Portsmouth. The new owners take charge Tuesday with all equipment included and no personnel changes planned. Robert and Samuel, former U S Army majors, will run the Carey operation while Keller stays on to manage Spring Grove cemetery and handle spring orders.

Memorial Evangelical Church Start Spring Revival

Three Families Move Near Carey With Family Shifts

Mr and Mrs Charles Hall and their children left the Harvey Wonder property on W North Street and moved in with Mrs Hall's parents near Carey. They stored their furniture with Don Hunter. Frank Paessler will relocate from Dow Street to the Hall house. Harvey Wonder and family plan to move from their farm northeast of Carey to the Paessler residence.

Carey High Blue Devils End 1945 46 Season With 6 Wins

Carey High School closes its 1945 46 basketball season with a 6 18 record and 690 total points scored against 816 by opponents. Top scorers include Wedge with 163 points in 17 games and Newell with a 9 8 average in 16 contests. Red Snowberger and Don Wedge share a 16 point single game high, while Dennison and Captain Johnny De Amicis provide key leadership. The Reserves finish 3 wins.

Lutherans Rally for World Action Campaign in Carey

Lutheran World Action rally hosted by Christ Church Carey will draw over 1500 to Good Hope Lutheran Bucyrus on Tuesday March 19 at 8 pm. Rev Dr Carl Heminghaus of Baltimore will speak as part of a drive to raise 10 million dollars for relief and rehabilitation for distressed Lutherans in war zones.

Francis Orlans to be discharged March 19

Francis Orlans R M 2 c returns from three years in the U S Navy and awaits discharge at Great Lakes March 19 after a 30 day delay. He served as a radio operator on USS Cohassett with assignments at Guam Peleliu and the Philippines earning Asiatic Pacific Philippine Liberation American Defense ribbons and the Victory medal. He plans to reenter Tri State at Angola Indiana March 25 to finish six months of aeronautical engineering interrupted by the war. If housing is unavailable he will return to school in June.

CPL Stanley Bilski Returns From Army Honorably Discharged

Corporal Stanley Bilski returns to the area after three years in the U.S. Army. He drilled recruits and served as a truck driver at Herbert Smart Airport in Macon Georgia and with the military police in Miami Beach for 11 months. He is staying with Mr and Mrs Edward Wuebbe north of Carey and plans to settle in Toledo.

Two sons of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Strahm received honorable discharges from the armed services. S/Sgt Robert E Strahm left service March 6 at Camp Atterbury Indiana after 11 months in China as a control tower operator. Carey Novelty Shop to Open in Theatre Building

Mr and Mrs Robert Youngberg plan to open Carey Novelty Shop in the east room of the New Carey Theatre building within two to three weeks. The decor is complete and stock will include scarfs costume jewelry perfume novelty gifts stationery gift handkerchiefs religious articles cigarettes and tobaccos. Mr Youngberg served eight years in the U S Navy as a chief warrant officer and was discharged in February. Mrs Youngberg formerly taught ten years at Miamisburg High School.

Howard Baughman Returns Home From India

Howard L Baughman, discharged from the army at Camp Attedbury Indiana, returns to his parents west of Carey. He served three years with one month in Alaska and 28 months in Calcutta India, earning the Asiatic Pacific ribbon, the Victory ribbon, the good conduct medal and the unit citation.

Plans To Build House On Sherman Tong Farm Lot

Elmer Tong, who is holding a farm sale tomorrow, plans to build a new home on a lot on S Patterson street he recently purchased from Howard Presler. The site sits at the corner of the boulevard extending past the memorial park. Tong has worked at the Swan rubber plant for several years.

Carey High School Winter Band Concert Honors March 15

The Carey High School band presents its winter concert Friday at 8 p.m. in the school auditorium with classical, semi classical, popular and novelty pieces from Strauss to Boogie Woogie. Soloists include Susan Boyce on trumpet, Samuel McChesney on trombone, Joan Cole singing Too Ra Loo Ra and That Irish Lullaby, with Patsy Laird and Martha Ann Spensler as student directors. A twirling exhibition features six performers. The event is sponsored by the Carey Band Mothers' club and directed by Lewis Hawk.

Thomas M Schira Honorable Army Discharge

Thomas M Schira, son of Mr and Mrs A Schira, received an honorable discharge from the U S Army on March 9 at Camp Atterbury Indiana. He enlisted May 26 1943 at Fort Thomas Kentucky and served in Hdas Btry 922nd FA Bn in Europe from February to June 1945. He later served in the Pacific and earned the American Theater ribbon European African Middle Eastern ribbon with bronze star Asiatic Pacific ribbon and Good Conduct and Victory medals.

Williams to Open New Furniture Store in Carey

Paul Williams leases the Harshberger room on Vance street to open Pauls Home Shop in Carey once stock arrives. He will offer floor coverings including linoleums rugs and carpets and start with furniture on hand. Williams brings 21 years of experience in the business.

Lt Clayton Shuman In Serious Condition At Great Lakes

Lt Clayton Shuman remained in serious condition at the Great Lakes naval hospital after a prior hernia operation and a later pneumonia illness. His parents Mr and Mrs George Shuman of west of Carey traveled toward Orlando, Florida after learning of his status, joined by Mrs Harry Stoll and Mrs Lawrence Nachbar.

Carey brothers shine in Marion Golden Gloves bouts

Brothers Leland and Lawrence Strahm from Dow Street took part in Marion Golden Gloves action Monday. Lawrence won a decision at bantamweight while Leland stopped his opponent in the first round at middleweight. Their next bouts in Marion could lead to finals in Columbus Friday night.

Bernard Reinhart to Return Home from Guam aboard USS Navarro

Bernard M Reinhart AMM 2/c of Carey Ohio sails toward the States aboard the USS Navarro, part of the Magic Carpet fleet. The ship left Guam February 19 and is expected to reach San Francisco around March 12, carrying troops and equipment from Pacific operations as the US Navy secured beachheads against Japan.
