Third Grade Spelling Averages and Upcoming School Programs

West Side third graders achieved 100 percent in last week’s spelling test. Notable students include Alice Beebe and Richard Johnson. Rev. Paul R. Clouser will speak at the chapel Monday and sing. Upcoming programs run March 20 to April 3 with eighth and seventh grade events. Margaret Brinkman joined the Sophomore class. Activity Night was postponed. High school boys interested in track met with Mr. Kingsmore.

Inter-class tournament to be held next week

The high school and junior high will compete in an inter class tournament with both boys and girls teams participating.

Seating upset in seventh grade English first row

The six week test altered the first row in section C with Margaret Bachman in seat one and Jack Mitchell seat two. The following six are Jane Fagan Ruth Brown Betty Montague Anna Elizabeth Johnson Virginia Mitchell and Arnald Hiatt. Nine students scored above 90 in section D including Eunice Tyndall and Gladys Wickham at 99, Rosella Nye and Zetta Mae Sample 96, and several others with 98 and 91 percent.

Leagues Unite for Bible Study Tonight and Lent

Twin births mark weekend at local homes

A 9 pound daughter Patricia Diane born Saturday morning to Mr and Mrs Clarence Courtad on N Vance street. Saturday night another daughter born to Mr and Mrs Ervin Wonder at their home west of town.

Accidental Crash injures Garfield Tong family

Sunday on Route 23 near the Barney Cold Iron home Mr. and Mrs. Garfield Tong of west for tow received minor injuries in a collision with a northbound car. Donald and Joan Tong were uninjured. Corliss Lee and Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Lee of Fostoria occupied the other vehicle. Mrs. Lee was unconscious and taken to Fostoria hospital. Both cars sustained similar damage.

Free vacant lots offered for cultivation by mayor

Mayor S. H. Krebs offers 15 vacant lots for cultivation at no charge. Interested residents may contact the mayor to arrange usage of the plots.

Carey Welfare Committee Appeals for Clothing Donations

At a recent meeting the Carey Welfare Committee reported a depleted treasury able to cover only outstanding shoe bills. On hand clothing will be distributed but no new shoe orders. they seek boys and girls clothing from ages 3 to 17 and urge residents to donate usable used garments at the library.

Lutheran Lenten Services Evening Choir Becomes Focus

Lenten services are held Thursdays at 7:30 pm through Easter with Rev. Paul R. Clouser delivering the theme Facing the Cross in 1933. Cottage prayer meetings replace Sunday services in March, recent host homes include Mr and Mrs J L Yohe and Mr and Mrs Lawrence Wenner. Junior Choir rehearsal next Tuesday will include a group photo.

Autos Stolen and Recovered in Local Incidents

A Chrysler owned by Frank Kitzler was stolen while he attended Our Lady of Consolation church services and recovered two hours later near Patterson street. A Nash belonging to Norman Zahn was taken from the high school area and found Saturday at the park. A Ford V-8 owned by Cecil Doppler was stolen Friday night and recovered Saturday at Courtad's service station on N Vance street.

Mrs Ralph Roller Returns Home From Hospital

Mrs Ralph Roller was moved from the Home and Hospital at Findlay to her home on N Vance Street Wednesday afternoon. The trip was made in Bristoll and Kear's ambulance. Mrs Roller is recovering nicely from her recent operation.

The local Big Four women's team defeated an Upper Sandusky lineup in a bowling match. Carey rolled 607 672 607 while Upper Sandusky posted 555 598 580 to finish behind.

PTA Meeting Set For High School Monday In March

The Parent-Teacher Association will hold its regular March meeting in the high school auditorium. Officers for the coming year will be elected after the nominating committee report. Mrs Myrtle Perkins acts as installing officer. Mrs Warl S Burson reports on the Northwestern district conference at Fremont. Miss Ryan leads a girls physical education exhibit and the high school orchestra, directed by Miss Warren, performs. This may be the last PTA meeting this year with a possible April session if needed.

Local missionary groups held World Day of Prayer with services at Memorial Evangelical church. Mrs. W. G. Bradley led. Mrs. W. R. Shisler led singing. Miss Lucy Laughlin at the piano. Readings and solos by multiple participants centered on the theme Follow Thou Me.

Duty of advertisers is curbed by their leaders

New York March 6 The Association of National Advertisers Inc in a letter to members says its board of directors believes advertisers in their own interest should take full cognizance of the responsibility which falls upon them as buyers of space. The letter states members have a community of interest with the substantial publishers of the country in maintaining their publications as useful means which we can continue to employ in our sales activities.

Struck by auto in Carey area one injured

Robert Loudenslager forty four of Carey area was struck by a car Wednesday afternoon while stepping from a tractor at his home. He suffered several fractured ribs and possible internal injuries and was treated at home, then taken to Findlay hospital before improving.

Lutheran Missions Meeting At Christ Lutheran Church

The Woman's Home and Foreign Missionary Society met in the parish house on Wednesday afternoon. President Miss May Mullholand presided. Employees at the porcelain plant were paid 25 percent of their two week pay on Saturday. The remainder was delayed due to banking restrictions, but the partial payment helped many workers ease their money concerns.

Miss Helen Deidrick and Virgil Rader wed Sunday at the bride’s parents home five miles north of Carey Ohio. Rev Andrew Douglas of Toledo officiated with Miss Oreva Deidrick as bridesmaid and Harold Phillips as groom’s attendant. The couple will live on the William Schubert farm north of town. the bride’s prior occupation was bookkeeper for Meinert Bakery Co in Toledo.

Funeral for J. R. Van Gundy Attended by Relatives

Mr and Mrs W H Sloman and children Alma and Virgil joined other cousins at the West Union church near Sycamore for the funeral of J R Van Gundy. Attendees included Virgil Foy Lenore Sloman Boyd McKibben Harley Treece and families. Van Gundy of Eden township died suddenly from a cerebral hemorrhage Wednesday evening.
