Carey Teachers Hear Reports On Instructional Conference

The Carey Teachers Association heard Ronald Petty report on the Instructional Conference in Columbus February 22 to 24 with David Williams. They discussed space and aeronautics groups, team teaching, and agreed to invite a Blue Cross speaker. a committee was formed to protest lost interest from the State Teacher Retirement Fund.

Blood Donor Drive Set for Carey March 22

Mrs. Robert Schmitz new chairman of the Carey Blood Donor Program announces Red Cross mobile unit will visit Carey March 22 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Methodist Church basement. Prospective donors will be contacted March 12 through 17. If not contacted and you wish to donate call 396-4140. Goal is 125 pints with urgent need. Carey CYO Girls Win League Trophy Again

The Our Lady of Consolation parish CYO girls captured the 1961 62 volleyball league trophy for the second straight year with a 14 1 season record. Dolores Dibling, a senior standout, will graduate and be ineligible next year. Mr and Mrs John Welsh and family traveled from Cleveland to Minnesota for Fr Warren Welsh ordination at St Paul Cathedral. The former John Lee Welsh received Holy Orders from Archbishop Leo Binz with a later Mass in Minneapolis. The family then visited Bloomington and Carey plans a June 3 Solemn Mass.

Mrs John Wagner of Tiffin Ron ald W Hines and Mrs Carrie Phillips attended funeral services for Benjamin Hines in Albany Indiana on Saturday morning. The death was due to a heart ailment. In the afternoon they joined services for Mrs Betty Ransom in Greenville Indiana. The family stayed as overnight guests with Mr and Mrs George Hines in Union City Indiana and returned home Saturday evening.

Twenty-two Kiwanis members heard Richard Rice of Findlay explain Social Security at the Homestead Restaurant. He traced history and benefits, noted funding sources, tax rates rising to 4.54 percent in 1969, and outlined retirement disability and survivor provisions with local figures and office locations. State Liquor Sales Fall in 1961 Reported by Auditor

State Auditor James A. Rhodes releases 1961 figures showing retail store sales sliding from 153 535 423 to 151 130 221 a 1.5 percent drop. Agency sales rise to 5 899 567 a 580 593 gain. Wholesale sector falls 1.1 percent. Wyandot County reports 230 113 in total sales for the year.

A film of the modern pigorium at the William Cole farm southwest of Carey will be televised at 12 15 p m Tuesday March 13 on the RFD program over WTOL TV Toledo Channel 11 The Toledo Edison Company sponsors the film which was made Saturday and shows the modern electrical equipment used by the Coles in their hog operations.

Snow Closes Carey Schools Again as Snow Stalls Streets

Carey schools were closed Tuesday for the second time in a week due to road conditions after seven inches of snow fell Sunday night and Monday. Village crews labored past midnight Monday and continued hauling snow Wednesday, with additional closures last week for icy roads.

Kenepp Assigned to USS Independence at Norfolk

Seaman Apprentice Fred Kenepp son of Mr and Mrs Fred E Kenepp of Carey Ohio is stationed at the Naval Receiving Station Norfolk awaiting transfer to USS Independence. He joined the Navy in July 1961 after graduating from Carey High School. The receiving station commanded by Capt W A Blandin USN handles personnel reporting for transfer or separation with about 6000 passing through monthly. Fred flew from Great Lakes to Norfolk February 14 and awaits the Independence’s return from a cruise.

A nominating committee for Carey Moose Lodge will meet at 8 p m to nominate officers for the coming year. An 8 30 p m regular meeting will follow with urgent business. Farmers Attend Adult Class Year Highlights

Twenty one farmers attended the Adult Farmers class at the school last Thursday. Clifford Smith of E Z Flo Chemical Company explained types of weed and insect controls and how they work. A federal grain inspector from the Toledo Board of Trade spoke to the class Tuesday evening. The final meeting will be March 15 with Elwood Sawyer of the Industrial Commission of Ohio discussing farm safety and workmen's compensation as it applies to farmers.

Street addresses required for auto license renewals in village

Auto drivers within village limits must provide street addresses when applying for new licenses. Village spending on street building and maintenance depends on motor vehicle registrations. Some residents on St Marys Avenue West Patterson and Findlay Streets receive rural mail delivery.

Lift Station Ready For Use Council Told

The new lift station in the Municipal Building will operate automatically this week. Village Manager George Dunn said the automatic controls should be finished by tomorrow or Wednesday.
