Band Mothers Plan Bake Sale and Picnics
Fifty Band Mothers met at the high school band room with President Mrs. Clifford Wise presiding. May 11 was set for the Junior and Cadet Bands picnic, and the solo and ensemble district festival will be in Tiffin. The Senior Band spring concert is scheduled for Friday March 15 at 8 pm in the high school auditorium. A bake sale is planned for Saturday March 16 at Dible’s plumbing shop with donations welcome.

Airplane Forced Landing at Indian Trail Motel
A small two seat plane piloted by John Rayburn of Akron forced a landing at the rear grounds of the Indian Trail Motel near Carey last Thursday afternoon after running out of gas. The landing damaged a 7,000 volt power line, leaving area residents without electricity for over an hour. Rayburn stayed at the motel. his two Akron friends flew the plane back to Akron the following morning.

A tank car carrying about 8000 gallons of ethylene dichloride leaked Friday in the New York Central Railroad yards, prompting alerts from Brandenburg Kentucky to move the car away. Two Louisville semi-tankers hauled the chemical to New Jersey after about 300 gallons were lost and investigators from the American Association of Railroads examined the incident.

Couple Passing Forged Checks Target Local Motels
A couple with a child visited at least three motels Friday evening in the area passing seemingly worthless checks. Mrs John Walder at Indian Trail Motel said they paid with a $50 check drawn on a Detroit bank and left without occupying a room. Jacob Bishop of Penwood Motel reported a $40 check and $31 change. The Evergreens Motel in Upper Sandusky was also said to be visited. Constable Kenneth Vaenle is investigating and awaiting clearance on the checks.

Cat Has Surgery After Ingesting Needle in Davenport
Tinker a 1-year-old Siamese owned by Mr and Mrs Merl Buckingham near Carey swallowed a needle with about 6 inches of thread. The cat was treated with anesthesia but surgery at a Findlay pet hospital followed X-rays. Tinker is recovering but not yet frisky.
