A humorous exchange recalls a hunter’s boast and a tale of a misfired shot. The Chicago Record-Herald preserves a witty line where a hunter says only one man mistook him for a rabbit and proved a poor shot.
Lawrence High, 22, was badly injured while loading stone at the Lime and Stone plant when a frozen mass of dirt and rock shifted. A large boulder kept the mass from crushing him, pinning him briefly. ten workers freed him. He suffered a bruised right side and possible internal and spinal injuries but shows some improvement. Dr. Zeis attended him.
Dr. Monroe Markley delivers the celebrated lecture Harp Strings and Heart Strings on Monday March 9. Reputed for wit, eloquence and logic the talk earns praise from local papers and church circles. Seats at Ewing's drug store open Monday February 9 at seven o clock.
August Henry near Lime City employs thousands of three inch tiles over twenty acres buried 12 to 16 inches deep with cross lines every four rods to form a grid. Wells with pumping systems push water into underground canals during dry periods, signaling probable success and plans for large expansion. Henry, a prominent Wood county farmer, is cautious about early results but signals confidence.
The Rose bill requires a 35 percent petition of county electors to trigger a special election on liquor sales. If the majority votes against prohibition, sales remain unlawful for 30 days. If pro prohibition wins, sales are banned after 30 days. penalties range from 200 to 3500 dollars and nuisance abatement for repeat offenses. Medicinal sales by druggists and physician prescriptions are noted. A second election may occur after three years. Contests must be filed within ten days in probate court.
Railroad builders used over 100 million cross ties in 1906 for new and renewed track. Oak supplied about 44 percent, Southern pines about 16 percent, with Douglas fir and cedar next. Most ties were hewed, 10 percent treated with preservatives, and many railroads ran their own treatment plants.
A Lutheran ladies supper last Friday night drew a steady crowd and was praised as first class. Guests enjoyed a social evening and the charge was only fifteen cents, with jokes about meagre fare long outdated.
Louis Krock and Miss Susie Scheck of Salem township married last Thursday with Rev. W E B Kaeding presiding at his Upper Sandusky home. Henry L. Smith of Upper Sandusky died Tuesday and was buried Thursday. he belonged to Wyandot Lodge 100 IOOF and funeral was lodge directed.

Giustavus R Burson of Mt Blanchard died Thursday after several weeks of illness. He was sixty four, Civil War veteran, Democrat, never married, son of Dr A FE Burson. Survived by brother Frank I Burson and sister Mrs J W Edie. uncle of N BoClark, Mt Blanchard News editor. Burial in Mt Blanchard cemetery.
Miss Lizzie Rader returns from Cleveland and plans to unveil new millinery styles next week. She has moved from her former shop above the post office and invites customers to visit the rooms above for fittings and selections.
J L Brown will leave the latter part of this week for Athens Alabama. He goes to look over the country and may decide to make his future home there.
Last Sunday night the Lutheran church hosted a sacred music program led by the choir. The lineup featured a thema by the choir, quartette numbers by Jesse Stombaugh W J Baker Clare Ewing and Russell Kurtz, duets by Clare Ewing with Russell Kurtz and Della Newcomer with Clara Newhard, violin solos by Mabel Engler, and a chorus including Mrs B M Gear and Mrs H K Fetker. Ruth Ewing served as organist and opened with voluntary and offertory. A large congregation attended and the audience welcomed the variety and occasional chanting of The Lord's Prayer.
A Sunday morning thunderstorm with heavy rain and lingering snow caused floodwaters to rise along Spring Run. Water breached banks and flooded lower lots on both sides, recalling early April floods seen in Carey.
A sleet storm struck Ohio around 10 pm Saturday, hindering travel as pedestrians struggled to reach home by 11 pm.
