The Cayugan Warriors fell 24-8 to Calvert last Thursday night after an early 9-2 run gave Calvert the lead it never relinquished. Carey Hi Reserves beat Tiffin Junior Order Home Reserves 27-9, with 10-point second-half hero Junior Twining.

Daily winners in arithmetic races are listed with names for each weekday. Charles Clark appears multiple times as top individual, with Billy Howard and others noted. Spelling dictation perfect scores include Clark Clouser Coldren Dible Dill Dunn Hinebaugh Howard Kennerley Kitzler Lab Ritter Bish Ward.
Nadene Gibson wins Monday arithmetic race and the week overall, with Dorothy Hood taking Tuesday, Mary Heck Wednesday and Thursday, and Donald Yingling Friday. Rows C and D also win. Spelling perfects include Alice Coldiron Eleanor Greene Mary Heck Dorothy Hood Hazel Jacques Donald Yingling Gertrude Strahm Eva Wenney Jean Summerell. Mary Heck and Dorothy Hood are key 100 percent scorers in spelling dictation.
Last week's event crowned Mary Ogg as winner. The following pupils achieved perfect scores across all weeks: Jacqueline Mapes Arlene Rickle Dorothy Ritter Arlene Robison Rosemary Rook Eugene Ulrich Donne Jean Hunter.
Miss Prunella Stack, 22, head of the Women’s League for Health and Beauty in London, invited by Prime Minister Baldwin to sit on the national advisory council. The council will draft proposals for a national college of physical training as part of the keep fit program backed by government funding from 10 million to over 500 million dollars annually.
The New Star Theatre in Upper Sandusky opens Saturday March 6 at 1 30 p m showing Dick Powell in On the Avenue. It features modern air conditioning new sound equipment luxurious seating and grand retiring rooms with striking marquee along the Lincoln Highway. Wyandot county gains a pride and joy in this up to date cinema venture.
The CIC class of Memorial Evangelical church will hold a tureen dinner at Mrs. Roy Walters home 8 Lake street this Friday March 5 at 6 o'clock. Assistants include Miss Klimena Shue Miss Romaine Frederick Mrs Paul Powell Mrs Raymond Jacobs and Mrs Carl Hunter. Members not on the committee should bring sandwiches and a salad or dessert. The March meeting date changes from the second Friday to the first Friday.
The Caldwell family thanks neighbors and friends for help during the illness and death of R W Caldwell. They also thank Rev Reynolds for consoling words, Undertaker Goff, and Dr Lee for services.
Troop 22 BSA held a regular meeting led by Ralph Kurtz who presented Harold Brown with the Tenderfoot badge. Plans were made to take the troop to the Tiffin YMCA swimming pool next Monday.
Arrangements continue for Beech Grove revival meetings through this week and next. Reverend LID Reynolds, the pastor, conducts the services with Reverend and Mrs Reep of Green Springs assisting. Everyone is welcome.
The Class B sectional basketball tournament begins Thursday at the Carey high school gym with 14 teams from Hancock, Crawford, Richland, Seneca and Wyandot counties plus Crestline, Tiffin, Calvert, Fostoria St. Wendelin and Carey. Winners advance to Columbus for the state round. prizes include gold belt buckles for champions and silver buckles for runners-up. Games run Thursday to Saturday with semifinals Friday and finals Sunday, admission 25 or 35 cents.
Twenty six band mothers gathered Monday evening at the high school for the Carey Schools Band Mothers meeting. The program featured piano duets, violin and trumpet solos, with performances by June Criger Paul Burson Talmage Huston and Norman Huffman among others. The Salem orchestra contributed selections including Pizzicato Polka and Rosamunde Strauss Schubert pieces.
Massey Harris Farmers Day, an annual Carey event, will be held at Schmidt Bros on West North Street on Saturday March 13. The program includes special prizes moving pictures and free lunch with an invitation to every farmer in the community to attend and enjoy the day.
The Catholic Ladies of Columbia announce a sale of baked goods and dressed chickens at Dible's plumbing shop. The event occurs on Saturday March 13 and Saturday April 17 starting at 9 a.m. Proceeds support church activities.
The Wesleyan Guild class of the Methodist Sunday school will hold a meeting Monday evening March 8 at the home of Mrs. George Snyder. Miss Dolores Wisner, Mrs Nina Schmidt and Mrs J A Schira will assist as hostesses.
The seed corn outlook has improved due to a milder winter. Corn in the ground on election night has shown poor germination from early freezes, so conduct ear by ear germination tests. Take about 200 grains per ear. over 90 percent germination indicates good ears. F F A offers ear tests at half a cent per ear in the Carey high school agriculture room.
Rev. R. B. Coleman of John Stewart Methodist Episcopal Church spoke on Heritage to the Kiwanis club at Pilgrim House in Upper Sandusky. Guests included J. C. DeWitt of Moscow Idaho and Dwight E Harold of Fostoria. S. W McChesney was announced as a new Kiwanian.

Work on the new switchboard at Carey Electric Telephone is progressing rapidly. O Wheeler of Oberlin and G O Coleman of Rochester NY handle the installation and expect completion within 30 days.
John Adam Orth of Dunkirk marked his 101st birthday Friday with a family dinner attended by his six children. He enjoyed a generous slice of cake and remarked that the day felt like an ordinary one.
Ruth Walter of Wharton expresses sincere thanks to all who remembered her during a stay at Grant Hospital. She notes appreciation for visits and prayers and sends warm regards to everyone who offered support.
Joe Silverstein thanks the Carey fire department for their services during the fire at his junk yard on Monday night.

Rank Kitzler has purchased from Mrs. Michael Wenzinger a 40 acre farm four miles south of Carey and will establish his home there.
Miss Gertrude Orians of Carey died at Good Samaritan hospital Dayton after four months illness caused by streptococcic infection. She taught at Carey parochial and Springville schools and was active at Our Lady of Consolation church. Funeral services were held at Our Lady of Consolation with a large attendance.
A grateful message from Raymond Orians and family thanks the priests students sisters and many groups including Calvert Alumni and the Eagles for support after the funeral. They acknowledge neighbors former pupils and the junior high class and pledge eternal remembrance of kindness.

A mixed dance event by Martin's Great Lakes Band at Moose Hall Findlay on Friday March 5 England calling ballroom style featured. The program offers social dancing with live music and British style calls for dancers in Findlay.
Parochial school weekly notes report pupils scoring 100 percent in spelling including Rita Bakies Mae Garn Rita Kessler Bernard Karcher Mildred Kramer Mary Martha Lab Monica Mullholand Carolyn Weaver and others. During arts period pupils displayed vases and drew them with cylindrical perspective with top scorers Paul Smith Robert Windau Howard Schreiner Tony Fabiani Virginia O'Done and Edward Bakies.
Barbara Mulholland Alene Hoepf Genevieve Fox Jeanette Elchert Nicholas Collet and Josephine De Falco achieved perfect scores in spelling during the past week in the local school competition.
Ruth Calmes Joseph Collet Jane Haferd Rita McKinnon Maxine Kieffer and Rosie Triano posted perfect 100 percent marks in arithmetic during the past week. Jane Haferd Rita McKinnon and Joseph Collet achieved 100 percent in written spelling in the same period.
A 90 pound daughter Phyllis Mary born February 28 to Mr and Mrs Donald Deidrick near Sycamore. The baby was formerly Miss Kitty Baker of Carey. An 8 pound son Robert Eugene born February 28 to Mr and Mrs John Maenle of West street. Also twins two girls weighing 6 and 7 pounds born Monday to Mr and Mrs Charles Bess near Carey.
The 24th annual conference of the Wyandot County Council of Religious Education will be at Carey Methodist Church on Saturday March 1. Thirty two churches from all Protestant denominations participate. Sessions run at 9 a m and 1 p m and are open to all.
At the Catholic Knights of Columbus meeting on Tuesday March 9 Rev Cyprian Terwoord OM C will speak on Birth Control. The event centers on the topic with the scheduled lecturer listed.
