Public School News Highlights School Events
The sophomore home room under Mrs McKinney presented a colonial themed program with piano, songs and dances led by Helen Buckland and John De Amicis. Students performed Yankee Doodle, the Virginia reel and the minuet, ending with The Star Spangled Banner. Class rings were awarded to juniors and a sophomore party was held at the high school. Versailles high school band gave its annual concert with Miss Claflin and Miss McKinney as sponsors. The girls chorus sang in chapel, and Mr Driver read the scripture while Mr Wentling drew for a tournament at Bascom. Carey faces St Wendelin Calvert in the Bascom tournament next Thursday.

Attendance at the Bible school of the First Methodist Church rose with special devotional services led by Mrs Forrest Baker. The Dorcas class led by Mrs Rose Diller will teach next Sunday and an unusual rise in attendance is expected due to a large enrollment.

Perry Beard resigns from Hancock County Board of Education
Perry Beard of Hancock County resigns from the county board after 16 years of service. He sold his Vanlue farm and bought a new farm west of Carey, moving to Wyandot County in March and severing board ties. Beard recently was re elected without opposition for a new four year term after two months of that term. Prior to the county post he served on the Vanlue board.

Enlists in WAVES Former Carey Resident Joins Navy
Cleo Ann Kromer left Wednesday for Hunter College in New York City to train for service with the WAVES. Daughter of Mr and Mrs Leonard Kromer of 845 Brookwood place she graduated from Ann Arbor High School in 1934 and worked as a bookkeeper for Superior Chu Warren Farms before enlisting. Her sister is Mrs Eugene Bertoni of Ann Arbor.

Families Move as Homes Change Hands Near Carey
Mr and Mrs Donald Clark and daughter Patricia Jean moved Monday to live with Mrs Clara Clark's parents Mr and Mrs Karl Hosafros, Euclid area miles southwest of Carey. The Hosafros plan to take the F South street home from Mrs P A Hendricks of Fostoria and will move when the Van Bokers vacate on W North street.
