High School News Highlights Activities and Plans

The Caryatid annual goes to press next week with high expectations. Students and staff organize intramural basketball, senior Kiwanian reps chosen, and the band prepared for a service men’s event. A dental clinic for grades 1 through 4 and 11 and 12 is slated Friday. The commencement date is set for May 31 and a graduation speaker is to be announced.

Deputy Registrar Opens Office for 1945 Licenses in Old Town Hall

The deputy registrar announces the opening of an office in the trustees room at the old town hall to sell automobile and truck licenses for 1945. Hours are 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 to 5:00 p.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays evenings, and Thursdays afternoons. Citizens urged to obtain licenses now to avoid rush.

Postponed Social Meeting Of Service Men's Wives Club

The social gathering at the Legion hall tonight has been postponed by the central committee due to interest in hearing the opposition's stance on universal military service. Junior Canteen Schedule Changes and Chaperones

Missing in Action: Cpl Robert Brickner in South Pacific

Mr and Mrs EB M Brickner of New Riegel were informed by the war department that their son Cpl Robert Brickner has been missing in the South Pacific since January 12. A former New Riegel high school athlete, he enlisted January 22 1948 and has been overseas since February 1944.

Amputated: War Wound Sg t Laudenslager Returns

Sgt Charles O Laudenslager aged 25 son of Mr and Mrs C M Laudenslager of near Vanlue suffered the loss of his right hand from wounds received in action in France. He entered the Army in 1942 and arrived in France in 1944. He arrived in the U S February 2 and is now a patient at Percy Jones General Hospital Battle Creek Michigan. He has a brother Cpl John Laudenslager stationed with the U S Army in England.

The Red Cross opens its annual campaign in Carey to raise 4406 dollars, the same as last year. County chairman FM Grege of Upper Sandusky appointed Mrs Ross R ORANG as Carey Precinct chairman, with captains JA Mir KHalph Williams and others directing solicitors to call at homes and businesses. Publicity is led by Herbert H Miller as publicity chairman, with the goal to finish quickly by encouraging prompt and generous contributions.

Greenhouses improvise heating with surplus stoves

Surplus stoves saved a Carey Greenhouses crop after the boiler failed on Sunday February 11. Richard Frederick oversaw locating and hauling six stoves from multiple sources with help from local firms and workers. A Detroit boiler was shipped and installed by week’s end, while coal stoves burned continuously in the interim to protect growing plants and flowers.

Collie Major, 14, Dies at Haferd Home East of Carey

The white collie Major, beloved by the Ralph Haferd family, died last week at their Carey area home. He would have turned 14 in July and was buried with honors on the east hill of the Haferd lawn.
