The annual Salem Festival offers chicken lunches served from 5 30 PM, freshly baked pies and cakes, and family games with booths and music. If weather turns unfavorable the event will be postponed to Monday evening June 297 with a full range of amusements and family friendly activities.
The Carey TM advisory rationing board reports stamp five valid June 28 to July 25 1942 for two pounds of sugar and stamp six valid July 26 to August 22 1942 for two pounds. Each stamp covers four weeks, not two, per amended Section 1407-243.
The annual Children’s Day program will be Sunday morning at 10 30 in the church basement. It features a cantata A Summer Day. Rev Donald W Cryer will baptize children during the service.
Carey Troop 13 of the Boy Scouts of America defeated Troop 37 of Nevada at Harrison Smith Park Upper Sandusky by 35 to 29. Events included fire building string burning obstacle race signaling a mile scout race wood chopping and judging. Readable participants were Donald Krebs Frederick Snobarger Carl Michael Gottfried Stanley Van Buren Frederick Williams and Clarence Tong. A park pool swim followed.
Leon Davis of the Ohio Agricultural Experiment Station at Wooster estimates the 1942 peach crop will run 60 to 70 percent of 1941. He cites January cold as the cause in southern and southeastern districts, while Lake Erie coast orchards should reach near normal yields.
Put and Mrs Gustave Kaintz announce the arrival of a son named Robert James born Sunday June 21 at St. Vincent's hospital Toledo. They report the father is stationed in Savannah Georgia and the mother is staying with her parents.
Wyandot County deputy treasurer Karl F Kraus announces June tax books are open for the 1941 property tax with the last installment due. Books close September 10, 1942.
The Eagles host a Saturday night dance on June 27 with door prizes including a $2 war stamp a 3x5 American flag a $5 war stamp and a 10 piece water set. Come early and bring a friend.

Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Phillips of north of Carey became grandparents and great grandparents within 19 minutes on Wednesday June 10. Pamela Mary Dame, daughter of Kenneth and Pamela Dame of Alexandria Virginia, is the granddaughter. Eileen Marie Rader, daughter of Cloyce and Mrs. Rader north of Carey, is the great granddaughter.
Co. C. Myers, founder of the Risingsun Unique Weekly for 36 years, sold the newspaper and job printing business to W. E. Strange of Risingsun and D. Roe Davis of Toledo. The deal includes the Bloomdale Derrick, bought in 1918, which Myers published and which is now part of the sale.
Pvt Paul Fredritz stationed at Mitchell Field New York sent a telegraph Father’s Day greeting to his father John Fredritz three miles north of Carey. The telegram read Greetings and all best wishes in the world from your son.
The Hancock County Camp Meeting association chose August 6 to 16 for its annual camp meeting, to be held at Royal Park Findlay as usual.
The fifth registration of men for selective service targets those born January 1 1922 to June 30 1924 who have not yet registered. In Wyandot county sites include Coon's Store Nevada American Legion hall Sycamore and Wharton township house with varying hours on Saturday and Tuesday. Upper Sandusky registration occurs Saturday afternoon and Tuesday morning to evening at the courthouse third floor.
In the final 1940s motor vehicle funds distribution Ohio towns and counties see Carey get 15.17 dollars while Wyandot County receives 1648.11 and Upper Sandusky 329.25. The total distribution amounts to 1,230,905.69 with a 273,648.79 equalization fund shared among 88 counties. Cuyahoga and Cleveland lead city allocations with 232,818.67 and 57,830.77 respectively.
Mrs. William Holloway returned to Carey to supervise the shipment of household goods to Salem for storage. She will spend a month in Dayton for a new job, then move to Delaware to serve as dietitian at Ohio Wesleyan University. Her husband travels to Kelly Field, Texas, to begin Air Corps pilot training.
Justus lodge No. 393 Knights of Pythias will nominate and elect officers at its regular meeting next Tuesday evening at 8:00. All members are urged to attend. Charles Hoff, V C.
George Cline ten year old son of Mr and Mrs Earl F Cline of W Findlay street is recovering from an operation on a muscle of his right eye. The operation was performed at Mt Carmel hospital Columbus.
Regular meeting of Carey lodge No 407 LO F will be held Thursday evening at 8:00 o clock. All members are urged to be present. Van Baker secretary.
The municipal building flies a new American flag donated by Carey Aerle of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
An English manufacturer with plants in war production explains why he keeps advertising. He says the business existed before Napoleon and will endure after Hitler, so maintaining contact with customers is essential.

The Carey board of education has hired Donald Parfitt of Lucas to replace William Holloway as music teacher and band director. Summer concerts start July 1 at 8 30 p m with a 8 00 p m rehearsal for band members at the schoolhouse. A pre concert rehearsal is set for June 30 at 7 30 p m and all senior band members should attend. Regular lesson days remain Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursday mornings until further notice.
Eugene Baughman of Findlay discovered a break in at his late mother-in-law Mrs. L S Criger’s west of Carey residence. Damage was extensive with a wood shed fire attempt on a paper heap and coal oil poured on the floor. A box of matches was found in the yard, still dry.
At an adjourned meeting on June 18 the Village Council hired H. E. Crawford of Sycamore Ohio as scavenger for Carey. He will supervise cleaning of cesspools hauling of garbage trash ashes and will control the village dumping grounds and operate under village ordinances. On June 22 Crawford canvassed the village to survey the situation. B. M. Bachar Mayor.
In the first week at five Carey collection points residents turned in 10 404 pounds of scrap rubber. Shaney’s filling station gathered 4500 pounds Stoll’s garage 700 Shuman’s filling station 2500 Marathon station 1600 and Pontius station 1100 pounds.
Flin Moon and his Down Home Boys headline a Moose Hall event this Saturday evening. A round and square dance is planned with Mowe and their friends joining the fun. The Down Home Boys perform over station WEEN.
Harold E. Krout son of Mr and Mrs Carl Krout 352 E Findlay Carey is a member of a class of Student Officers and Aviation Cadets who graduated Tuesday from the Air Force Advanced Flying school at Stockton Field Calif The graduates have been commissioned as Second Lieutenants in the Air Corps Reserve and given silver wings They will be placed on active duty in their new rank with the Army Air Forces Cadet Krout completed 20 weeks of training at Palo Alto King City and Lemoore Fields before Stockton Field He attended Carey High School and then Miami University at Oxford He will take a 10 day furlough and visit home probably arriving in Carey next Sunday
Armond W. Gase, 30, of Tiffin, a Gray & White Co. driver, is hospitalized in Toledo with fractured ribs, a broken ankle, and back injuries after a New York Central passenger train struck his truck about eight miles south of Toledo on Route 199. Engineer Alpha Philbin, 62, of Bucyrus, also injured by gasoline tank explosion causing facial burns. Gase was thrown 200 feet. truck motor and chassis hurled long distances. cargo scattered along the right of way.
Mr and Mrs Ray Stroub are notified of the bere arrival of their son Private First Class Ray Stroub Jr in Australia.
The Carey poultry team Herbert Lortz Billy Vaughn and Melvin Roynon placed 9th in the state F F A judging contest in Columbus on June 6. The event tested practical tasks including candling and grading eggs and selecting birds for production and market among 140 teams. Ted Wonder ranked 7th in dairy cattle judging among 792 competitors and Giles Krupp finished 16th in sheep judging, 7th in fine wool judging among 134 contestants.
On Sunday evening at 6 30 the Mt Blanchard Methodist youth will join Lakeside Epworth Leaguers for a booster meeting for Lakeside Institute. Rev Bruce Wendt new Mt Blanchard pastor will speak. Local youths will serve refreshments at the social hour.
Dr and Mrs Harry M Hosafros Mrs Marcus Elmas and son Richard Mr and Mrs Karl Hosafros Mr and Mrs Donald Clark and daughter Patricia Ann Mr and Mrs Ralph McKee and daughters Rita and Kay attended the Hosafros family reunion at Riverside Park Findlay on Sunday.
Lightning struck the Kirian home on the Elmer Wonder farm near Adrian at 5 a.m. last Sunday. Mrs. and Mrs. Martin Kirian and family lived there. Family members quickly extinguished the fire, but there was considerable damage.
