The picture shows a tank crew that knocked out ten Japanese pill boxes during fighting on Cane Gloucester on New Britain Island in the South Pacific. Fre Lester D. Wagner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wagner, is named in connection with the report.
Lee Newton Meeks aged 55 died at his Mt Bienehard home Wednesday of last week. Funeral services were held Friday at 2 PM at the Mt Bunchard Methodist church with Rev J K Turner and Rev Ross Hurley officiating. Burial followed at Hueston cemetery. John D. Blackford resigns as Upper Sandusky public schools superintendent to take the Mariemont schools post in Hamilton county. George Billin of Bellevue High School named to succeed Blackford. Mrs William Switzer, 71, of 361 W Bigelow Upper Sandusky, died Friday at noon at her son-in-law and daughter Mr and Mrs H Hoerr in Marion after two years illness. Funeral services were Monday at 2 PM from Bringman & Co. Upper Sandusky chapel with Rev H Kellermeyer officiating. Burial at Forest Glen Memorial Park near Marion.
Numerous residents from Tiffin Carey Sycamore and nearby areas visited Adrian and area hosts. Visits included Mrs Bertha Crumrine Mrs Grace Osburn and families, Mr and Mrs Willis Bible Mr and Mrs Mullholand and many others with social teas picnics and a planned July 13 community picnic.
