Monument Dedication Honors Civil War Soldiers at Local Cemetery
The Granite monument near town cemetery, crafted by J B Keller, was unveiled Friday by the Ladies Auxiliary Corps. Notables including the mayor and Carey Post G A R attended, with Major E G Laughlin presenting on behalf of the Auxiliary. Chaplain Wonder led prayers and Rev Moore gave a patriotic address as flags were raised and a Star Spangled Banner verse sung. A grande reception followed in the G A R hall.

The Drought Breaks After Friday Shower
The long dry spell ended Friday afternoon when a south shower moved in around four o clock. Torrential rain soaked parched ground Friday night and again Sunday, promising relief for vegetables and grains. A strong wind broke branches and toppled trees, blew off the cross at Our Lady of Consolation church, and damaged a parsonage porch as the town recounts past storms.

Corn Contest Acre Inspection By State Board
T. R. Wagner of Arlineton and the State Agricultural Board inspected the acres plot on Friday. Sixteen boys have entered the contest for a trip to Washington. Mr Wagner toured the homes of the boys and observed well cared plots and fine corn in good weather conditions.

At a recent council meeting present were Laughlin as mayor and councilors Angus, Chambers, Brown, Duhlar, Kennerley, Kurtz and Johnson. Bills paid included American Chemical Co and Logan Natural Gas Co. Fire Chief Wonder reported rubber gasket needs. railroad crossings near the National Lime and Stone plant were in poor condition and must be repaired or village will do so at railroad expense. A petition to oil South street and Patterson street was accepted with a resolution published elsewhere. W 11 Snyder was granted to tap the sewer in the Mosier block alley. A petition to pave Findlay street was presented and accepted. A law and ordinance committee was appointed.
