Joseph Bakies son of Mr and Mrs Fred Bakies of Dow street arrived home on rotation from Korea where he served with the heavy mortar company of the 7th Cavalry Regiment since July 22 1950 He traveled by plane from Seattle to Chicago and a bus to Toledo He is scheduled to report to Fort Custer Michigan on July 14.

Fire damages home of McLaughlin family on West Street
Fire of undetermined origin damaged the front upstairs bedroom at 578 West Street Sunday morning. Isadore McLaughlin Jr. found the flames at about 9 o clock and alerted adults. Carey firemen extinguished the blaze. furnishings, including most of Sandra McLaughlin's clothing, were ruined. rafters and wallboard will need replacement. smoke damaged the back bedroom and wallpaper in the front room. John C Drummond fourteen suffered a fractured skull and a fractured right leg when his bicycle was struck by an automobile driven by Kenneth Wiseley forty two of Alvada Route 1 at six fifty p m Monday. The accident occurred in front of the home of Mr and Mrs Lee A Reed Route 330 north of Route 15 six miles northwest of Carey. John was taken to Findlay hospital by Coldren ambulance and remained unconscious Wednesday morning. His father stayed at the bedside while his mother was with him during the day.
