Funeral set for Roger W. Greene in Carey

Roger W. Greene 23, of Carey dies in action July 13 1943 in Iran after service in Camp Claiborne Louisiana and overseas duty. He earned the Soldiers Medal and Russian Red Star. Survived by his father Ward Greene and relatives in Green Ville Rushsylvania and Bellefontaine. Funeral Sunday at 2 PM at Bristol funeral home with American Legion services. Burial in Spring Grove cemetery. Friends may call after Friday.

Father Vogel to Preach in Carey

Rev. John Vogel director of the Apostolate of Catholic Evidence begins a 10-week summer street preaching tour in the Toledo diocese with stops in Rossford Toledo Carey Spaulding Ridgeville Corners Delta Republic Green Springs Belleville and Attica. Findlay College Grants Degrees to Hayman and Strahm

Richard Hayman and Robert Strahm of Carey received Bachelor of Arts degrees at Findlay College last Sunday. Attending exercises were Mrs. Richard Hayman, Mrs. Robert Strahm, Ned Twining of Toledo, Mrs. Nell Twining, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Strahm, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Hayman, and Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Twining and son Clayton Jr. Both graduates are sons of local families.

Wyandot County fair board picnic at the fairgrounds

The Wyandot County fair board holds its annual membership picnic at the fairgrounds on Monday evening June 14 with a 7 30 picnic supper. Coffee is furnished and Frank Farnsworth, state agriculture director, along with other state department staff, will attend. A Junior fair board program is in the works.

The local review of the W. B. A. will meet Friday at 8 15 in Moose hall. An annual memorial service is planned and members who can bring flowers are asked to do so. Mrs LeRoy Rettig received a gift at last week’s social hour. Members are urged to attend this meeting.

Last Friday, Sept. George A. Hartman presented two certificates for Samuel McChesney II. One recognized first place in English III in the Ada district and another for second in the Bowling Green district. He had previously earned a certificate for ranking fourth in the state.

Police Traffic Safety Check Month Set for July

Ohio police departments, led by Col. George Mingle and Gov. Herbert, join the state highway patrol in a July police traffic safety check. Last year 358,225 vehicles were inspected, with 68,654 defects found. A windshield sticker will mark compliant autos, while failures receive a faulted check sheet and required repairs.

Daniel Williams Found Dead Along Tracks

Daniel Williams aged 65 was found dead Monday morning along the A C Y R Re tracks east of the hustlers shack by Merle Buckingham as he checked cars. Coroner Dr J A Propst said Williams died about 48 hours due to endocarditis and a social security card from Canton was found on the body. Two empty wine bottles were found. no money or valuables. Canton and Gary police circulated photos and noted Williams had 16 prior intoxication arrests in Gary. Funeral arrangements not complete. burial expected Friday.

Auxiliary Mail Route Expanded in Carey Village

U S postal department authorizes an auxiliary mail route in Carey with two daily deliveries on three routes. The extension covers Glen avenue to Worello street and lists residents receiving mail along each street. Harold Emerine is promoted to regular clerk, with Teal Slike delivering the route and Ferdinand Williams and Frederick Williams joining as substitutes.

Rex Huston Graduates From Wesleyan With Business Degree

Rex Huston son of Mr and Mrs Vernon H Huston of E Findlay street earned a Bachelor of Arts in business administration from Ohio Wesleyan University. He joined Delta Tau Delta, entered Wesleyan in 1942, left for the Air Force in 1943, served 31 months, and returned in 1945. He is the second Huston to graduate from Wesleyan.

Young Ruth Lear Undergoes Emergency Appendix Surgery

Ruth, a T year old daughter of Mr and Mrs William Lear of S Muncie Street, was rushed to Findlay hospital Friday noon for ruptured appendix. She recovered promptly and was brought home the following Wednesday.
