G A Hartman of Amsterdam has been awarded a 32 year contract as superintendent of the Carey school system. He succeeds Earl B Driver, who resigned to lead Washington township schools in Lucas county. Hartman’s career spans Berne Union, Sidney, Millcreek Marysville and Union-Port Union schools. He holds an MA in school administration from Ohio State and permanent superintendent certificates. He and his wife have two children and he is active in church and education associations.

Mother Recieves Letter From General MacArthur and 27th Infantry
Mrs. Samantha Conley of Carey Ohio received sympathy letters from General Headquarters Southwest Pacific Area signed by General Douglas MacArthur and from Company AY Twenty Seventh Infantry. The messages dated April 27 1945 and April 11 1945 express condolences for her son Private First Class Elbert K Conley who died March 26 1945 while fighting near Balete Pass. Elbert is described as an excellent soldier whose sacrifice is honored by his comrades and superiors.

Two Findlay Men Commissioned Ensigns From Northwestern
Richard Kamerer and Robert Constien graduated May 24 from Northwestern University midshipmen school and were commissioned ensigns. Constien served with the V-12 unit at Ohio Wesleyan and trained at Asbury Park and Northwestern, later heading to Cornell for diesel engine instruction. Kamerer, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. C.
