Carey High School Commencement Attended by Relatives

Visitors gathered in Carey last week for the Carey high school commencement exercises. Miss Leona Williams of Tiffin attended to celebrate her cousin Oro Essex’s graduation. Other guests included Miss Dorothy Groves and Miss Esther Hackenberger of Findlay at Representative Herbert Newhard’s home. Families from Kirby Mansfield and others joined the Derrs for the event.

Young Angler Arden Ruehle Catches Big Week on River

A 13 year old fisherman Arden Ruehle son of Mr and Mrs A J Ruehle spent a week near Braceville with his mother and Miss Florence Chambers. He fished daily in the Mohoning river and hauled about 60 pounds of fish home in a suitcase including a 12 1/2 pounder and a 4 pounder after a productive visit.

Sunday morning at Our Lady of Consolation church the banns for the marriage of Frank J Shenk of Cleveland and Miss Julia Kadlee of this city were published for the first time.

Shumaker Family Visit and Mass at Our Lady of Consolation

Rev Fr Norbert Shumaker and family from Toledo joined Joseph Shumaker’s household Sunday and stayed over Monday. Fr Shumaker celebrated mass at Our Lady of Consolation Church at 7 15 Monday morning.

Parking Plan for Pioneer Picnic Vehicles

All machines from the west bound for the Pioneer Picnic on Thursday June 9 should park near the Crawford monument, entering through the gate by the Brayton Davis residence. This site is solid ground and safe from getting stuck. Eastbound machines park in the school house yard.

Decorated Graves by G A R And American Legion Group

A committee led by W C Anderson and W A Perkins of the G A R with Howard Snyder and Nial Ryder of the American Legion decorated graves at Spring Grove Brayton Bigelow Lutheran Baker s Salem and St Mary s cemeteries. The party traveled over 50 miles and decorated over 125 graves aided by Merle Blue.

Carey Tires Sweep Two Games From All-Stars and Salem

Carey Tires beat Findlay All-Stars 2 to 1 in a tight Sunday clash with Bland and Henry handling mound duties. Monday they routed Salem 18 to 5 at the city ball park as heavy hitting and sharp pitching propelled Carey. Fostoria, managed by Harry Aldrich, to visit next Sunday after beating Fostoria Carbon Works and Fremont.

Knights of Pythias Memorial Service Announcement

The Knights of Pythias memorial service is set for Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in the M E church. The program features a quartet song, prayers, readings from the Book of Laws, an obituary by H G Chambers, an address by Rev W F Martin, altar decoration by the Sisters, and closing ceremonies by officers, with "America" sung by the congregation. The public is invited.

Hickle Family Returns to Ohio After 1573 Mile Move

Mr. and Mrs. John Hickle arrived from Hibbing Minnesota after 21 years there. They plan to settle near this area but have not chosen a specific location. The trip by auto covered 1573 miles in five days. Mr. Hickle is the brother of the late G. D. Hickle.

Flower Mission Service to Hear Dr Spaid on June 19

On Sunday June 19 the county WW CU will gather at the infirmary of the Flower Mission Service. Dr E Luther Spaid of this city will pass a talk and a program of music will be furnished by various unions. Anyone interested in the work, though not a member, is urged to be present.

Sedan loses rear wheel on Main Street

Jacob Thom’s old sedan pulled from the curb in the business section of Main Street when a rear wheel detached. Rust on the axle showed it had been cracked for some time and could have failed any moment.

Drowned Youth Carl Johnson of Farmer City Illinois

Carl Johnson age 16 of Farmer City Illinois drowned Friday while visiting relatives. He was nephew of Mr and Mrs M A Dow. Mrs Dow was visiting in Farmer City and Mr Dow left Saturday to attend the funeral as the boy was completing his third year of high school.
