Lightning Strikes Carey Area as Heat Wave Relents

A severe electrical storm in Wyandot County caused property damage and power outages in Carey and surrounding areas after days of extreme heat. Lightning struck the Ohio Power substation near Seneca and damaged wires, leading to two hours of power loss. A garage, home wiring, and a tree were struck, with scattered debris and a few hoboes found under the tree. The heat wave eased briefly with a small rain and high winds but returned as temperatures rose again before a cool mass from the Dakotas was expected to end the heat spell.
