Miss Anna Shumaker of this city won the piano Queen contest at Upper Sandusky last week with 30 738 votes while runner up Miss Agnes Hart had 25 143. The presentation came at a band concert with Samuel J Black speaking. Hart received a diamond ring. The Brinkerhoff Brothers supplied the Knight Brinkerhoff piano from Michigan was installed Monday in Shumaker’s home.

Dailey Concert Quartette Appears at United Evangelical Church
The J C Dailey Concert Quartette of Philadelphia performed a Saturday evening concert and a Sunday sacred concert at United Evangelical Church. The group includes J C Dailey his son and two daughters. They recently played at Winona Lake Indiana and proceed to Mountain Lake Park Maryland. Dailey and Rev F M Greene recall a fifteen year gap since childhood in Brockwayville Pa and Dailey recounted his early struggles with help from the Greene families. The concerts drew strong attendance and local praise for vocal excellence described as unmatched in Carey.

Death of Henry Nigh a Carey area resident
Henry Nigh prominent local figure died at his home south of Carey on Friday. Heart disease caused his sudden death after a porch conversation with a newspaper agent. Born February 13 1846 in Fairfield County Ohio he spent most of life in Wyandot County. Survived by wife Jennie Carothers and daughter Mrs Tilton Pierce burial at Spring Grove Cemetery with Masonic funeral rites conducted by Rev E L Spaid and a quartet performing. Forty one Masons accompanied the remains to the grave with Amos Bixby reading rituals.

George Bagley an attache for the County News Carnival died after grabbing a live wire in a tent at Upper Sandusky. He was from Erie Pennsylvania and his body was sent there for burial. The death stunned carnival staff and locals alike.

Pennsylvania Railroad plants 625000 trees this spring
The Pennsylvania Railroad forestry department completed spring planting adding 625000 trees this year and 2425000 trees to date. It imported 209000 seedlings from Europe, growing acorns and conifers in Morrisville nursery and transplanting unfit stock in rows. Severe storm damages crops and farms near Hickle
A Sunday afternoon storm northeast of the city brought wind rain hail and lightning. Rainfall was heavy with a cloudburst feel. streams rose a foot. Hail battered cornfields and split stalks while lightning struck three spots on George Hickle’s farm, including a tree by his stacks.
