Brooks Short a 30 year old truck driver of Winston-Salem was cited to appear before Acting Municipal Judge Walt M Witherspoon Fos toria at 10 am Monday for passing at an intersection that caused a crash. He was attempting to pass a dump truck driven by Fred A Bohlen a 19 year old from Whitarton as Bohlen began a left turn at the U S 23 and U S 224 intersection. A passenger Eugene Gutermuth 46 of Carey Route 2 sustained abrasions and head contusions. Bohlen's truck front end was heavily damaged and Short's semi trailer then struck a fence at the Starlite theater northeast corner of the intersection.

Two Paroled Convicts Kill Four in Seneca County
Paroled Mansfield reformatories John Coulter West and Robert Murl Daniels terrorized Seneca County last Thursday night. West allegedly fired the fatal shot that killed tavern owner Harry Ambrose two weeks earlier. Daniels confessed to killing Mr and Mrs Niebel and their daughter Phyllis of Mansfield on July 21. The spree ended when a roadblock near Van Wert halted them. West was fatally wounded and Daniels captured. Authorities traced the stolen two tone grey sedan to a roadside park near Old Fort and found Orville Taylor of Niles Michigan shot dead nearby. Daniels and West fled with four new Studebakers in their truck before the confrontation.
