A prisoner jailed for drunkenness escaped Sunday evening before 7 by crawling through a small hole rusted in the steel floor. He had been working in the country and sent word he would come up Saturday to pay his fine. The Ohio Legislature appropriated 25000 and Columbus added 250000 for a Centennial celebration tied to the State Fair in late August. The Columbus Centennial Commission will oversee 75000 and work with the State Board of Agriculture to enhance Ohio’s historic event. Local man kills record-length water snake near town
Edward Brown of three miles south of town felled a seven feet four inch water snake in Lick Run using an axe. The reptile, found in driftwood, appeared to bluff as it tried to fight but was immobilized.
