Paratrooper Judson Virden Injured in Jump at Fort Benning

Pfc Judson Virden a paratrooper at Fort Benning Georgia was injured Friday when his parachute drifted over Lawson Air Base and crashed on the concrete runway. Ligaments torn in one leg and possible pelvic fracture. He was unconscious briefly and confined to hospital. He told his parents during a long distance call that pelvic injuries would be X rayed. This was his 18th jump. Virden had been home on furlough and returned to Fort Benning July 11.

Toledo Guests Visit Robison Family in Carey

Guests Monday and Tuesday of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Robison and their son Ronald include Mrs. Russell Zahn and neighbor Mrs. James Earle of Toledo. Mrs. Zahn's husband, a former Carey resident, is Robison's uncle. The Zaklon family plans to move to Phoenix this fall. Their son William J. Zahn attends Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning and will spend a furlough with his parents after graduation.

Cream Festival at Beech Grove Church

An ice cream festival will be held on the Beech Grove United Brethren Church lawn on Thursday July 24 starting at 5:30 pm. Homemade ice cream sandwiches pies cakes and other refreshments will be served, with indoor seating in case of rain. Everyone is welcome.

Killdeer Plains Hunting Preserve Bought in Wyandot County

The Ohio Wildlife Council approved purchasing an 1800 acre tract in Wyandot County known as Killdeer Plains for 152 411 dollars to create a public hunting preserve. The site south and west of Hampster was once a premier pheasant area and aims to be restored for pheasant rabbit and waterfowl hunting with three quarters of funding from Pittman Robertson federal wildlife aid.

Emergency Appendectomy For Charles O Allison Near Carey

Charles O Allison, northeast of Carey, had an emergency appendectomy at Mercy hospital in Tiffin at 6 p m Tuesday after admission. His condition is satisfactory. He returned home June 27 from the State Tubercular hospital at Lima where he had been under observation ten days. He had been well enough to work in the fields Monday.

Calf Dies After Fox Fright at Wright Farm

A six month old calf owned by W. H. Wright and Fordyca Lortz died of exhaustion July 17 at the Wright farm near Carey after reportedly fleeing a fox. The incident sparked a fox hunt as farm chickens were also claimed and a den was found on the property. The calf was valued at $80.

Vacation trip of Rev Aloysing Jacoby and family

The Rev Aloysing Jacoby of Lansing Michigan toured Minnesota with his father during a July vacation.
