Local Resident Leo Wentz Killed by Lightning

Lea Wentz of the Ray Hunter farm near Carey was struck by lightning Friday evening while harvesting clover seed. The 49 year old farmer died instantly, with no marks on the machinery but a red streak along his right side. Survived by Jennie Hindmen Wentz and son Ira, plus eight siblings. Funeral services held at Memorial Evangelical church with interment at Spring Grove cemetery.

Pre School Clinic Set for August 5 in Carey

The Carey community hosts a free pre school clinic August 5 at the Crawford building with doctors nurses and the state health department. Local officials including Mrs Bame and the Wyandot County Good Health League coordinate outreach to all eligible children and provide exam slots and personal visits.

Albert and his wife receive a letter from their son Gene stationed at the U S naval training station in Great Lakes Illinois. He notes cool weather since arriving July 8 and a lake breeze near Chicago. He marvels at the select group admitted to the navy with high education levels and recalls three thousand graduates from Great Lakes last year.

Two Hardin county artists from Patterson appeared on WAIU Columbus in a 15 minute program Friday from 10 30 to 10 45. Mrs LeRoy Latham alto and Miss Marcella Ickes soprano performed popular songs. They will return on Saturday at 4 p m. Mrs Latham was formerly Miss Grayce Holden of Carey.

J. F. Rutherford will present The Hope of the World in a global radio hookup the largest ever for one program. More than 300 stations across the United States and Canada plus outlets in France Australia Alaska Cuba Hawaii will carry the talk. Miss Selma Kessler daughter of Mr and Mrs C S Kessler of Carey wed Ben Browar of Detroit in a Friday ceremony at the Commodore Perry hotel Rabbi Joseph S Kornfeld officiated at 530 pm under a garlanded improvised altar. A reception followed and the couple departed for a Canada and northern New York trip with plans to settle later at 345 Islington. Mrs. Gustave Kummerer Rites Held at Our Lady of Consolation

Mrs. Gustave Kummerer died after a ten week illness at home on Muncie Street. Born Caroline Schmidt in Baden Germany July 11 1864 she was 67. Survived by husband Gustave, son Joseph Fey and daughter Mrs Louis Seislove with many grandchildren and relatives from Tiffin New Riegel and Fostoria. Funeral mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Consolation with interment in St. Mary's cemetery.
