Picnic Draws 4-H Happy Hour and Merry Mixers

Members of the 4-H Happy Hour Sewing club and the Merry Mixers with their mothers held a Meadowbrook park picnic in Bascom. They met at Miss Margaret Wenzinger's home, traveled to the park, enjoyed cafeteria style dinner, games, swimming, and a late picnic supper. Many mothers and guests attended and everyone hoped for more picnics.

Domestic Art Club Meeting At Jacoby Home

Domestic Art club members gathered at Henrietta Jacoby’s south of town for their regular meeting. Demonstrations covered nail care cutting bins trimming sewing on buttons miter a corner and garment inspection followed by refreshments. Carey Boys 4-H Club Plans Overnight Outing

The Carey high school hosted the regular meeting of the Boys 4-H club on Tuesday evening with softball practice beforehand. Members discussed an overnight outing and arranging games against different softball teams. The 4-H team beat the American Legion softball team 5 to 6 on Sunday July 15. The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday evening July 31 at the high school.

Sawyer Addresses Kiwanis on Cincinnati City Government

Woman's Missionary Society Meeting at Memorial Evangelical

Mrs Claude Johnson presided over the Woman's Home and Foreign Missionary society at Memorial Evangelical church Tuesday. The lesson on New Opportunities for Christian Education was led by Mrs Virgil Green. Mrs Harry Bowman read a leaflet on Mrs Burroughs and the Summer Auxiliary. Mrs Cora Hart led the devotional period and Mrs Johnson reported on the Akron state convention from late June.

Tax Deadline Extended in Hancock County and Northwestern Ohio

State tax commission extended the June real estate tax deadline to September 1 in Hancock County and 40 other Ohio counties. Northwestern counties affected include Marion and Sandusky on September 1 and Crawford and Erie on August 20 and September 1 with Hardin on August 15.

Highway No 15 Opens To Public Between Carey and Findlay

The public can now travel on State Highway No 15 from Carey to Findlay after curves were straightened and improvements completed. The work, done this week, marks the opening of the route for general use.

Carey Band Excursion by Boat to Belle Isle

Carey Schools announce a band excursion from Sandusky City to Belle Isle via the Chippewa steamer. The date is Tuesday July 81, with round trip tickets priced at 250 dollars and boat fare to Sandusky City at 1.25. Boat round trip Sandusky to Detroit 125, car travelers may buy only the boat ticket. Proceeds fund the band with 26 percent to the band. Free dancing and parking on the boat, with a watchman on the dock.

L O O M Membership Drive and Summer Outing Planned

A local L O O M chapter announces a membership drive from July 16 to August 16. The Methodist church resumes regular worship Sunday at 10:35 after two Sundays off due to Pastor Rev A C Rainsberger’s vacation. The quartet provides music and a sermon titled Is God Powerless in Times Like These. Rainsberger will discuss Must We Change Our Idea of God. He notes timely topics and calls the church a steady institution through storms.

W C T U Holds Meeting At Miss Gililand Home

The local WCTU met Friday afternoon at Miss Della Gililand’s Patterson street home. Mrs Elza Jacobs led devotional. leaflets read included Whats the Matter With America and A Challenge to the Christian Patriots. Delegate Miss Helen Barnes of Findlay sails June 30 on the Westernland to attend the world convention in Stockholm, Sweden, June 20-27. Barnes is a former Carey resident.

Mrs A F Byers and Mrs Ross Johnson hosted the Jennie Larmonth Missionary Society meeting at Mrs Byers home. Rosa Summit led the lesson study Our Souls Catching Up With Our Bodies. Plans were made for a lawn social on August 14 at Mrs G W Summit’s home on W Findlay Street.

Destructive Farm Fire Destroys Barn and Storage Near Vanlue

A Monday forenoon blaze five miles west of town on the Effie Lee farm destroyed a 34 by 60 foot barn a granary a poultry house 300 bushels of wheat 300 bushels of corn 20 tons of hay and farm machinery The $2500 loss was partly insured The fire began in a straw stack near the barn and the Vanlue fire department saved the house while threshing was underway.

Tractor Fire At Heck Farm Southeast Of Town

Last Thursday forenoon the Carey fire department responded to a blaze at the Carl Heck farm south of town. A gasoline spill on a hot manifold while filling the tractor tank started the fire during threshing. Damage was limited and covered by insurance. Mr and Mrs Heck thank the fire department for prompt service.

Stork brings two daughters to local families this week

A 9% pound daughter arrived Sunday to Mr and Mrs James Parish near Carey. A 6% pound daughter was born Friday to Mr and Mrs Angela Trojan on Dow Street. The baby named Josephine Ason arrives last week to Mr and Mrs Asa Ellis of Bellville. The Ellis family moved to Bellville last spring from the Joe Wright farm south of town.
