Carey splits a doubleheader with Marseilles 11 9 in the opener after two errors allow six Marseilles runs. In the nightcap Carey wins 7 4 as Mervin Snyder allows few threats and Carey scores five in the first inning. Next game set for Sunday July 20 against Upper Sandusky at Swan Field starting at 2 PM.

Golden Wedding for Mr and Mrs Carr of West Street

Mr and Mrs Charles C Carr quietly celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in West street. They wed July 15 1897 in the Evangelical church parsonage by Rev Elmer Bailey. Mrs Carr 70 is Della Dipert daughter of John and, Mr Carr 82 is son of Daniel Carr. They have two daughters Mrs E L Rish Marion Indiana and Mrs W L Healey Carey. three grandchildren Richard Donald Healey and Eddie Rish. one great granddaughter Cheryl Lee Healey. A number of friends and relatives sent flowers and cards.

Moose Legion Meeting in Bucyrus Honors Minor Mann

Central Ohio No. 63 Moose held a regular Bucyrus meeting with many Carey Judge Legionnaires in attendance. Minor Mann, turning 81 on July 26, joined in 1915 and became a two Legionnaire in 1918, also a past governor. A chicken supper, floor show, and dancing followed the 3 p.m. gathering and 6 to 8 supper. Carey Moose softball beat Bucyrus 8 to 2 in a Sunday doubleheader, with both sides sharing a chicken supper and dancing afterward.

Twin daughters brought home from Findlay hospital

The twin girls born July 2 at Findlay hospital to Mr and Mrs Charles Heck of Carey were released Sunday. Their mother Josean Donelson returned home last Monday. Each infant reached the prescribed weight before leaving the hospital. Trudy weighs 4 pounds 12 ounces and Judy 4 pounds 15 ounces. The family stays this week with Mrs Miller on E South Street.

Salem Festival at St Josephs Church to host annual fair

St Josephs Church Salem will hold its annual festival on Sunday July 20 on church grounds with games and many prizes. A chicken dinner will be served cafeteria style from five o clock pm and other refreshments available all evening. If rain occurs the event will be postponed to Monday July 21.

Rev Koons to Attend Social Missions School

The Rev Wade H Koons pastor of Christ Lutheran Church will attend a four day social missions school at Hamma Divinity School Wittenberg college Springfield. The program is run by the United Lutheran Church in America board of social missions with sessions in California South Carolina and Ohio. He attends by invitation from Rev Dr C Franklin Koch and will serve as chaplain for devotional services closing each day.

Carey adds six waste paper baskets in business district

The village of Carey places six new metal waste paper baskets in the business section. Merchants are asked to instruct their employers to sweep waste into the baskets and not leave debris on streets. The street department cleans streets twice weekly.

Carey Names Arthur E. Wohlers High School Principal

The Carey board of education appointed Arthur E. Wohlers of Dover as high school principal. Wohlers, 33, has served as assistant principal and dean of boys in Dover schools and earned a AB from Bowling Green State University and a master’s from Ohio State University in 1939. He spent 1943 to 1945 with the Army Air Forces training command as a meteorology and radar instructor. He is married with a 17 month old daughter and attends St John’s Evangelical and Reformed Church. He has rented a property on East South Street and plans to move to Carey after remodeling is finished.

Hand Caught in Tractor Injures Alvada Man

Friday morning Frank Robinette of Alvada injured his right hand when it was caught in a tractor while cultivating corn. He was taken to a local physician for treatment of a large laceration on the back of his hand and received tetanus treatment.

Soldier John England Discharged After Service in Japan

Colt David Donald England was discharged from the Army on July 7 after service beginning January 17 1946. He enlisted on his 18th birthday and spent most of his time in Japan. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Dale England of Nevada former Carey residents and now works for the Pennsylvania Railroad.

Petitions of Candidacy Filed By August 6

The Carey Times reports petitions for all township and village offices to be voted on in November must be filed with the county board of elections by Wednesday August in Upper Sandusky. Petitions require signatures equal to 1 percent of the governor’s last year vote or at least 25 names. Carey elects two councilmen under the village manager system with Grover Wagner and B M Bachar as incumbents who filed in February for the May primary. Ohio Highways bids repair projects across 27 counties

The Ohio Department of Highways announced a July 22 sale offering about 200 miles of road in 27 counties for repair bids estimated at 400 000 dollars. Seven proposals cover routes in Hardin Wyandot Marion Pleasant Marseilles Eden Sycamore Pitte Antrim townships with 2 bituminous treatments and a 21 468 dollar completion target by October 1 1947.

Reverend Gerrity Dies Sudden at Fremont Mass

The Reverend Gerard Gerrity OFM Cong., 34, a philosophy teacher at Our Lady of Carey seminary, died suddenly from coronary thrombosis Tuesday morning while celebrating an early mass at St. Ann's Church in Fremont. He was born in Cleveland March 20, 1913, and survived by his parents and five brothers. Funeral arrangements set with the Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation and Mt. St. Francis cemetery in Indiana.

Kroger Store Reopens After Self-Serve Remodel

The Kroger in Carey is remodeled into a fully self-service food store. Remodel was completed Monday and Tuesday with two check-in lines and three cash registers ready. The store reopened Wednesday and will have a public grand opening on Monday.

Set Willis Putnam Jr who spent 14 months with the constabulary forces in Germany was scheduled to return home Wednesday with an honorable discharge. He served in the army for 20 months.
