Rep Fred Cassel spoke at the Kiwanis meeting on July 1 reviewing the session ended June 28. He noted 963 House bills and 450 Senate bills introduced with 244 and 121 passing, respectively, and one veto for deeds and mortgages.
Six Conventual Franciscan friars will publicly profess solemn vows July 14 at 8 a.m. during Mass at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation. The ceremony will be led by Father Basil M. Heiser. Friars named are Wayne Hellmann Lyle Coulter Barry Schade Florian Tiell Andre Cook and Pascal Harlan.
Herbert Dible family at 405 N Vance Street found 34 school teachers from Columbia South Carolina to Detroit Michigan stranded in their yard after their Trailways bus broke down. The group, including two men, ate a picnic lunch and made friends before a second bus arrived from Toledo to carry them on to Detroit.
John McDaniel announces updates to the Memorial Park pool lessons. Children under six move to 10 11 am on Tuesday Thursday and Saturday from 8 am. Ages 6 12 shift to 9 am on Tuesday Thursday and Saturday from 8 am. Adult lessons move to 9 pm on Monday Wednesday and Friday. Private lessons unchanged.
The Carey Farmers' Cooperative Co. reports the first wheat of the year arrived July 5 from Joe Derr southwest of Carey. Moisture measured 14.4 percent and weight tested 62 pounds.
Mr. and Mrs. William Zierolf relocate Zierolf Insurance Agency to the Emerine room at 124 E Findlay Street, west of the Carey Times. They moved July 1 from 125 E Findlay Street and outline renovations, new sign, and window displays.
Wyandot Chapter Red Cross urges local residents to swim 50 miles in 3 years as part of the Swim and Stay Fit program tied to Kennedy physical fitness efforts. The supervised plan at Memorial Park Pool awards certificates every 10 miles and a gold wallet card at 50 miles. Sessions run Tuesday evenings 7 to 9 for adults and Thursday afternoons 5 to 5 30 for all ages.
Lloyd Wayne Hill, son of Mr and Mrs Lloyd E Hill of Glen Avenue, has been appointed principal of the Gettysburg School in Dayton. He has taught there since 1952 and served as acting principal last year. A 1945 Carey High School graduate, he finished at Wittenberg College in 1950 and will earn a master’s degree from Miami University this year. He and his wife and their three children Sherry Vickie and Michael reside in Dayton.
Notice states Dr Everett McKee will close the office for vacation from July 14 through July 29. The message includes dates July 28 and 29 with the same physician.
Tim's edged The Quarry 9 to 7 after a seesaw game with early nerves. P Dean D Altwater and D Dible homered for Tim's as The Quarry rallied with late 4th to 6th inning runs. Swan limited Harry's to zero in a 13 run win for Swan. Porcelain defeated Swan 17 to 5 with 11 errors aiding the win. Michaels homered for Porcelain.
Chief Vincent R. Jacob said four 17 year old Carey youths vandalized the south river water storage tank near Swan Rubber Co. They climbed a padlocked gate and a 115 foot catwalk to inscribe Class of 1964 in red letters on the tank. Names withheld due to juvenile status.
Mr and Mrs John A Hendricks and children Mary Jake Connie and Bruce of 300 Cherry Blossom Lane return home after the 48th Kiwanis International convention in Atlantic City about 15000 attendees. The seaside event featured 30 amateur music groups Miss America 1963 and her court the Naval Air Basic Training Command flag pageant team and Fred Waring and His Pennsylvanians.
Village Manager George E Dunn and Atty Paul A Burson joined 32 others at a Toledo Club dinner to hear plans for a Northwestern Ohio Medical College to be built with Toledo University. Estimated cost 28 million dollars. 370 students. Toledo would provide 2 million. federal and state funds expected. Rawling, president of the foundation, led the session. Dayton and Akron seek the school as well.
Approximately 100 Carey Girl Scouts and leaders will camp next week at Camp Young three miles south of Upper Sandusky off Route 23. Senior Scouts depart Sunday afternoon to stay through Saturday, with Intermediate Scouts arriving Monday and leaving Wednesday. Activities include crafts, campcraft, and nature study.
Councilmen Clyde Jenkins John Windau John Hendricks and Robert Heck met in a special session to authorize a thousand dollar village share for relocating and resurfacing State Route 103 and to regulate parking per the State Highway Department. After a first reading rules were suspended and the ordinance passed as an emergency.

Mr and Mrs James E Mullhol and E Findlay Street purchase Jim and Dicks Pizza at 215 E Findlay Street from Mr and Mrs James Currence of Vanlue. The new owners rename the business East Side Pizza.
Irvin Olestus Ohley Book 88 of Upper Sandusky died July 3 at Tiffin Hospital after two weeks of illness. He suffered a stroke. He was a retired Railway Express Co. employee.
Miss Vicki Heck will reign as Carey homecoming queen during a three day festival in Carey Ohio. The 26th anniversary events include a parade with majorettes bands and a restored 1915 Steel King Motor Plan. Miss Heck will be crowned by Miss Ester Patrick with a parade lineup announced by the committee.
The Shuffleboard Club held a July 4 turkey shoot with full courts. Winners in the men’s group were Harold Shiley Denver Donelson and Reed Steen and in the women’s Dorcas Donelson Mary Shiley and Elsie Long. A 6 pm potluck followed with blue red decor and golden flowers.
The Rev Dr W Allbeck history professor at Hamma Divinity School will preach at Christ Lutheran Church worship services this Sunday July 14 at 8 and 1030 am. Pastor Cressman and family will vacation and drive to Springfield to enroll daughter Nancy in the Luther League Training School of the Ohio Synod at Wittenberg University
Electricity in Carey will be off from midnight Sunday to about 2 30 a m Monday to allow the village electric department to cut over substation circuits to new steel towers. If rain delays the work.

Lori Ann Otto was baptized Sunday at David Adams Memorial Chapel on the U S Naval Station Norfolk by Chaplain K R Cassady. Attending were the Otto family, sponsors and relatives from Virginia Beach Findlay Carey and other grandparents. The Tewells and Smiths traveled from Virginia to attend the ceremony and returned July 6 from June 28 voyage.
