Thermometer readings on the north side of E Findlay Street reach 125 to 126 degrees causing record heat for the year. An average 100 degree temperature prevailed in normal areas while some spots reached around 90. The weatherman forecasts fair and warmer weather for Thursday.
Village council approves extensive bills for July salaries, electric and water services, supplies, and payrolls. Notable items include Ohio Power electric bills, wages for marshal policeman and police, plus work on streets and parks and several vendor charges.
Mr and Mrs James Briggs Mrs Floyd Roberts and children William Floyd George Merle and Betty Platt attended from Friday to Sunday in Attica for the funeral of Mrs Robert Shatterley mother of Mrs Carey Briggs. Funeral services were held Saturday.
The Jennie Larmonth missionary society will convene Monday evening with Mrs. W. R. Allen hosting.
The Carey Schools band performs Wednesday evening July 15 in a free public program. The lineup includes Men of Ohio Fillmore, Elues Kiefer overture, Men of Valor Klohr, selections from Tannhauser Wagner, Officer of the Guard Jewell, selections from The Merry Widow Lehar, King Cotton March Sousa, Sounds from the Opera Werner, and On the Mall Goldman.
A wedding at the United Brethren church parsonage in Vanlue united Olive Faith Siddall and Arthur G. Hetzel before 15 guests. The bride wore white satin with a lace hat and carried red roses. Lucille Wagner served as attendant. The groom is with the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad in Carey. dinner followed for 25.
Members of the Methodist church and friends will attend a picnic at Allan Baker's home west of Carey on state route 103. They will leave the church at 6 o'clock. Epworth League sponsors provide tables chairs transportation recreation and coffee. A brief mention will note Lakeside Institute opportunities for 15 Leaguers planning to attend.
A chicken supper and festival will be held at the St. Nicholas church grounds in Frenchtown on Sunday August 9. Dinner will be served at 4 p m and games and amusements will be enjoyed by all. The public is invited.
J F Dible, local Frigidaire dealer, sold fifty five units in the first six months. A shipment of 16 new Frigidaires is expected this week. Dible said this is the largest number sold in any period since he took the agency.
Charles Drecsler, Tuesday sentenced on a charge of changing ballots, has filed an appeal. The bond was set at 1,500 dollars. Future hearings will be before the Lima district court of appeals.
Ida Belle Hood files for divorce from Le Von Hood in common pleas court on grounds of gross neglect of duty. Attorney Frederick K. Casset filed the petition.
Supt. W L Arnholt reports on Kiwanis International convention he attended as a delegate at the local club dinner meeting held at Pilgrim House on Monday evening.
The Flower Mission department of the county W C T U held its annual Flower Mission Day last Sunday at the county home. Mrs B C Harman presided as Rev S V Sydenstricker of Upper Sandusky read scripture and led in prayer. The program, directed by Mrs A J King of Carey, featured acts by local youth and community musicians.
The fourth Carey 4 H meeting opened with the club song in the high school yard. Members answered a bird roll call and minutes were read. Plans for a July 23 picnic at Island Park Mt Blanchard were made and committees named. Frances Peirce served as news reporter.
The Philathera class of Memorial Evangelical Sunday School held its monthly meeting Tuesday evening at Mrs. Will Dible’s home northeast of town. President Mrs. Virgil Green led, devotionals by Mrs. Elza Jacobs, prayers by Green and Jacobs, and the hymn Only the Best sung. Fourteen members attended. next meeting set with Mrs. Myrtle Perkins on August 4.
Mr and Mrs J A Schira and daughter Cora Ellen spent Tuesday in Columbus. Dale Krebs of Detroit spent the week end with his parents. Charles McGill of Avilla visited his grandparents. Mrs Mary Stroup and Mrs John Sheridan visited with Mr and Mrs Max Stringfellow. Several others joined Sunday guests at the home of Mr and Mrs A Buckingham. Urban Kokenge and family joined relatives in Florida and Chicago. Urban Kokenge Jr. visited Buffalo. Funeral attendees included Mrs Henry Lortz and Mrs Delmar Lortz.
C S Mulligan of Upper Sandusky supervises county recreation work in Carey this week at the water works park. A tennis court, giant checker board, double shuffle board, and volleyball court are under construction with completion targeted next week. Dale Weaver is named supervisor of boys playground. a Carey girl will oversee girls facilities. parents are urged to bring children for proper supervision.

Events include multiple births chiefly to local couples in Ridge Crawford and Carey township areas with names such as Aidan James Martha Jane Kenneth Astelle Sara Nora Doris Allene Ramon Edward Marilyn June and more. Notable deaths include John Slotterbeck Leninda Grady Laura Hoff Cleo David Buckingham and Mary Ellen Carothers with causes listed.
Mrs Helen Zoller a canning manufacturer representative will give a canning demonstration Monday July 18 at 2 pm in the D A R room at the courthouse in Upper town She will compare jar processing and open kettle methods and advise which products suit each method The speaker has wide experience in canning fruit and vegetables and will answer questions
July 7 report notes county officials in the Columbus area will serve four year terms after the Gilbert law extended terms. Elected roles include treasurers recorders sheriffs coroners clerks of courts and prosecutors with the change taking effect at 12 01 am.
Firemen responded last Thursday forenoon to W H Huston residence on W Findlay street when paper in the coal bin basement caught fire. No damage resulted, believed caused by boys playing with firecrackers.
The Townsend club meets Monday evening at 7 30 at the public library for important business. Secretary Ilza Garn requests full attendance.
The Carey W C Tal will hold a regular meeting Friday afternoon at 2 o clock at the home of Mrs Myrtle Perkins on North Vance Street.

Cy's Chevrolet Co. again tops county new car sales in June with 17 of 29 units and 80 total new cars sold. Other brands listed include Ford 18 Plymouth 15 Dodge 6 Pontiac 5 Buick 3 Oldsmobile 2 Studebaker 1 Terraplane 1. A total of 39 used cars were sold by the local agency last month.
The Methodist church holds a lawn fete on Wednesday evening July 22 featuring Twining’s 25 piece accordion band from Findlay. Tables offer a wide range of foods and refreshments including ice cream cake pie popsicles candy and various sandwiches and drinks. Proceeds support town merchants with the serving beginning at 5 o'clock.
A public festival at St Joseph's church Salem will be held Sunday July 19. Leon ard Kline band instructor prepared a program for the Carey schools band. Merchants of the community donated prizes for a festival raffle and a spring chicken dinner is planned for 5 pm with many attendees expected.
D J Kingsmroe has accepted the football and basketball coaching job at Hicksville High. He and his family will move mid August after five years with the Carey schools and leave many friends behind.
Graham Riley and his orchestra wrap up a six week engagement at Gem Beach. Mr Riley expects the group to start a new engagement in about two weeks at Erie Beach or Terrace Beach.

Wyandot county Boy Scouts attending Camp Owens set Friday as visitors day. Carey Kiwanis Club will be hosted that evening with a Hunters Stew supper by Troop 22, sponsored by the club. A court of honor occurs Friday at 8 o'clock, with public invited to attend.
Sheriff Verne F. Deats and deputies led a widespread search after a man attempted to attack a woman near Berwick. The wanderer, described as about 56 feet tall, in dark clothing with glasses, asked for the man of the house and grabbed the woman’s wrist before she fled to her husband. Police warned residents to bar doors to strangers.
The third meeting of the Boys 4-H club was held Tuesday evening in the high school agriculture room. Prof Truman Arnold led the session in the president and vice president absence and roll was called. The group discussed books and projects and started a collection to buy a bat and ball for the 4-H softball team. A refreshment committee was set for the July 14 gathering. Members listed: Harold Reinhart Joseph Derr Donald Reinhart Vincent Derr.
Clifford G. Sweet aged 24 and Albert Bowman 19, both of Taylorsville, N C, are charged with Mann Act violations for bringing a 15 year old girl to Ohio. They were moved to Toledo from Upper Sandusky by U S Marshal Jesse Sellers and will be arraigned before U S Commissioner John C Budd tomorrow. they are jailed.
William Caldwell of six miles south of town fell from a load of hay on Friday and suffered a fractured collar bone. He was taken to Carey for an X ray and returned home in Goff’s ambulance. Four weeks earlier his father Will Caldwell had a similar injury while closing a barn door in a wind storm.
Receipts for April to June 1936 at the Carey post office show a 60 percent increase over the same quarter in 1934. The figures are 416 721 dollars in 1936, 350 760 in 1935, and 255 450 in 1934.
The Women of the Moose announce a penny beano at the Moose hall next Tuesday July 14 and invite the public to attend.
A 70 pound daughter, Donna Mae, arrived July 2 to Mr and Mrs Ralph Arend two miles north of Carey. The family announces the birth.
