The summer fitness program for high school boys in grades 9 to 12, to be held at the city park on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7 p.m., announces Coach Geschwind. Activities include calisthenics weight training running speed ball and more. All interested boys may attend.
The Carey American Legion and its auxiliary along with the Kiwanis Club Jaycees and Jaycee-Ettes promote Boys State and Girls State. Local youths Carol Fabiani Nondus Oriani Charles Hall Steven Pieracini and Joseph Jacoby attended camps learned state government and held mock conventions. A 100 mile Ohio River cruise by Richard and Scott Spayd and Paul and David Burson from Carey highlighted local youth activities.
Police investigated four noninjury accidents with minimal damage. A 1956 Ford driven by Paul H. Treece collided with a 1962 Rambler driven by Mrs. John L. Mason after a sudden turn into a Foodland lot. James W. Howard, on a Harley Davidson, was cited for reckless operation after rear ending a 1959 Rambler driven by Mrs. Maurine Nash. A 1962 Chevrolet convertible owned by Georgia McDaniel was damaged when a 1964 Ford truck struck it leaving a parking lot. A 1958 Chevrolet sedan jumped the curb while Rose Hotelling attempted to angle park on South Street. Officers Doppler, Orians and Knowlton investigated.

Two 14 year old youths from Flat Rock Michigan were spotted driving a stolen car with one headlight out near Carey. Officer Jack Orians pursued the auto at 90 MPH to Upper Sandusky where a road block was set. The youths fled into a private yard, abandoned the car, and were later found by deputies. They are held for Michigan authorities.
Mr. and Mrs. Herbert H. Miller returned from a three week West trip visiting Arizona New Mexico Colorado Wyoming Montana South Dakota and Utah. They saw Painted Desert Petrified Forest Royal Gorge Pikes Peak Grand Teton Yellowstone and Mount Rushmore among others while noting 97 degree heat in Amarillo and snow covered mountains en route home.
A Carey fire destroyed a barn on the estate of the late Fred Dible after a spectacular blaze on a Wednesday afternoon drawing carey residents out in nightclothes. Investigators from Wyandot County and the state fire marshal probe the cause as planning leaders push a comprehensive zoning plan for Carey Ridge and Crawford townships.
Wyandot County Auditor Edward Beard told the Carey Kiwanis the county will start a professional reappraisal in the next 10 to 16 days, beginning in the east and moving west. He cited 1963 tax figures, 38 percent valuation for taxation, and details on real estate, public utilities, and personal property valuations and changes under House Bill 128.
Grace Metzker, director of music at Vanlue Schools, accepts the post as director of the Carey Philharmonic Society for the 1964 65 term. She succeeds John Raymaley, who resigns as vocal music supervisor at Mohawk High School to pursue a master’s degree at Columbia University this fall.

The Carey Times reports Mr and Mrs William E Harris of route 1 Carey were named tourists of the week by Paducah Kentucky Jaycees. They traveled from California to Carey and received a free night at Holiday Inn along with movie tickets a gas fill up and a free meal.
Route 67 north of Upper Sandusky will be closed for about 60 days for paving the new US 23 bypass. The closure occurs at the US 53 junction with traffic detoured along US 53. Announcement by Norman Conn, Division I, State Highway Department.
The Post Office will be closed all day Saturday July 4 with no deliveries. Postmaster notes the holiday observance and service pause.
The United Church of Christ of McCutchenville will hold their annual Lawn Fete on Saturday July 4. Complete meals and homemade ice cream will be served. Everyone welcome.
The Legion Auxiliary asks for pies, cakes, and workers for the Homecoming food concession. Donations are appreciated to support the event and community turnout.
A large sale of household goods will be offered Saturday July 18 at 11 am. The Henry B. Hagesfeld estate at 236 Clay Street is conducting the auction with full bill to follow next week by R. J. Wenzinger.
