Next Sunday morning the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper will be observed and infants will be baptized. An evening communion service for the absent will feature a patriotic song program at 7 30. The Luther League meets at 6 30 and Friday night the Serviced Preparatory to Holy Communion occurs at 7 30. Building Fund Sunday is planned for next Sunday.
Three hundred sixty visitors toured River Cave west of town Sunday. In 1924 eighteen thousand sightseers were entertained. M O L Kelley, proprietor, bought another cave seventeen miles from the courthouse at Birmingham Alabama on the paved road to Atlanta. The cave is a half mile long. Birmingham is Mr Kelley s home town.
Mr. J. G. Reynolds and family express sincere thanks to neighbors and friends for kindness and assistance during their recent bereavement.
James and Cecil Smith aged 10 to 14 and Richard Hearns aged about 12 were held at the village jail after bicycles left home without explanation. Local police notified by Toledo led to their apprehension. One Smith boy carried a broken arm. their father ill prompted family concern.
The 6 year old son of Mr and Mrs ER P Copley of Columbus drowned Saturday afternoon about 2 at a cistern in a friend s Troy home. Dorothy Wolfe of Troy, a Columbus nurse, rooms at the Copley residence where the family had visited for the weekend. Mr Copley is a Hocking Valley engineer.
George Dennan of Tiffin was arrested Friday night at the park dance by Special Policeman Robert Frankhart. He paid a $10 fine plus costs to Mayor Blue on a drunk and disorderly charge.
Plans for a large Farm Bureau picnic at the county fairgrounds include a parade, township reunions after a pot-luck dinner, and a 2 PM program by 4-H clubs with President O. E. Bradfute addressing. Games feature relays, dashes, balloon races, horseshoes, baseball, and a township points prize. Parade route outlined from U. S. Commission Co. to the fair grounds.
The Wyandot County Methodist Brotherhood newly formed will join Sunday night worship at Carey Methodist Church and conduct part of the service. They tour county churches, hold spirited meetings, with the pastor delivering the sixth talk in the church history series "The Revival of Learning." Sunday school at 9 15, divine worship at 10 30 with Holy Communion. sermon "The Heresy of Cain." Epworth League meets at 7. Official Board meets Monday night.
Carey defeated Upper Sandusky 11 to 9 in Upper Sandusky after a ninth inning rally that produced four Carey runs. Next Sunday Carey will host Upper Sandusky again.
A 4-pound son arrived Thursday to Mr and Mrs Vernon Huston. A 10-pound son was born Tuesday morning to Mr and Mrs Troy Rangeler, four miles north of town. An 8 1/4-pound daughter Vera Mae was born Saturday evening to Mr and Mrs Eugene Baughman in Findlay, with Mrs Baughman formerly Miss Ethel Criger.
The family thanks those who assisted at the death and funeral of Mrs. Otto Marschka. Gratitude goes to Rev. Lewis P. Speaker and to all flower donors. Husband and Daughter, Parents, Sisters and Brothers.
Thousands attended the dedication and golden jubilee of Our Lady of Consolation Church with Bishop Samuel A Stritch and 60 priests. Masses, a noon dinner for 29 priests, a 2:30 procession, benediction, and a large lay crowd marked one of the shrine’s grandest days. Many clergy, sisters, and lay participants from Toledo to Carey joined in the celebrations.
Two Carey high school students Carl G. Gibson and Harold E. Graves toured Western Reserve University in Cleveland as part of the Ohio Scholarships selection for Adelbert College. They underwent a short exam in English math and a foreign language and met faculty and City Manager William R. Hopkins during a luncheon and social events. Winning names will be announced soon.
Oliver Nelson, a colored member of the Hocking Valley construction gang, shot and killed John Mathews, aged 33, an assistant foreman, during a planned liquor and crap game dispute near Crawford. Nelson justified as self defense. others present were detained. Tracy Johnson alerted authorities as the shooting occurred.
Alva Criger a Route 2 carrier buys a new Ford roadster after selling his old car to Joe Silverstein the junk man. Criger says he expects service equal to the old Ford which he used nearly daily for over a decade. The junk old car minus coils and tires fetches five dollars.
John Wesley Krabill of southwest town receives a letter of appreciation from Congressman Brooks Fletcher of Marion after reading Krabill's Glimpses of Long Ago in the Carey Times.
Seventeen men attended the Kiwanis luncheon as a news bulletin from the international convention was read. Five thousand visitors were present and reports from Findlay delegates are expected. The next convention will be in Montreal with John M. Moss of Milwaukee elected president.
A congregation met Wednesday July 1 after prayer. Quarterly conference is set for Friday July 10 in the church prayer room with Rev D L Cauldwell of Upper Sandusky preaching and leading the conference. Sunday school and trustee boards meet then. Young men and women meet at Forest Phillips home. Box social planned for Friday July 3.
The Reynolds gathering met at Charles Reynolds’ Wharton home last Thursday with contests games and music. Charles Reynolds was elected president and Miss Elsie Criger secretary treasurer. The 1926 reunion will be at Frank Kemnerley’s Arlington home with attendees from Toledo Lorain Findlay and nearby areas.
The Findlay Merchants meet the Carey team this Saturday at the ball park at 12 30 PM for a stiff game.
Miss Ruth Dipert daughter of Mrs Martha Dipert and Robert Waaland of Findlay were married in Monroe Michigan on June 22.
