Institute date moved to February 8 at high school

The Francis Willard W. C. T. UV institute, previously set for January 12, will be held on the evening of February 8 at the high school house. County president Mrs. Al L Walton of Sycamore will attend.

City Council Discusses New Fire Alarm Lights at Square

At Monday’s meeting Mayor Wonder and nine council members heard bills paid to laborers and vendors including Kenneriey Hunter McKinnon Simonis Wilson Womade Snyder Carr and others. Marshal Lytie proposed two square lights one red to signal fire alarm and one white for police needs to be visible from Main and Vance streets. Council will study feasibility and Pahl will monitor. Fire Chief Wonder reported forty three firemen across three companies.

Tom Griffith Sold to Cincinnati Reds in Major Trade

The Sporting Editor of the Indianapolis Star notes Tom Griffith nicknamed Tommy was traded the first of the month to the Cincinnati Reds from the Indians. He has a market value of 10000 dollars, finished his first season with 170 hits in 186 games, and posted a .340 average with 26 two base hits 18 triples and 3 home runs. He also contributed 246 put outs with 17 errors for a .442 fielding average while retiring 29 base-runners. Cincinnati plans spring training at Alexandria Louisiana around March 1.

Farm Rented by Chicago Doctor to Local Neighbor

Dr. W. C. Brinkerhoff of Chicago rented the farm north of town from Gus Lortz to Chris Hucke on Monday. Hucke, formerly a neighborhood resident, will operate the property as its new owner.

Attempted Holdup Near Sycamore Road

Township Trustee J. W. Green faced a confrontation on the Sycamore road when a man approached from bushes as Green rode home after a town visit. Green resisted by seizing the horse’s lines, striking the assailant, and regaining control to avoid a ditch. The incident suggests possible accomplices and followed a day of local bill changing witnessed by several in a business place.

Marion Steam Shovel firm seeks tax relief from county

After taxes were tendered, legal representatives Crissinger Guthery and Strelitz offered 14269.47 to County Treasurer Dombaugh for the December 1914 assessment. The payment was refused as valuations were raised to 2,766,060 with half tax 19433.69. The firm then filed for a restraining order against collection and to fix true value in court.

Partnership Dissolved and Business Continues

On January 25 1915 the partnership between AT Arno and J Ro Logs is dissolved. All partners are to settle debts and the business will continue under Arnold. Creditors and claimants are to come forward.
