Carey Football Seniors Visit University of Cincinnati Guests

Carey football playing seniors traveled to Cincinnati arriving Saturday at 7 am. They visited University School and athletic facilities under Sid Gilman supervision. University provided meals, lodging, and transport. The trip followed a prior visit by Longanecker Risner and Coach Atkins to Bowling Green State University to see a basketball game.

Hog Improvement Association Banquet Next Thursday

The Wyandot County Hog Improvement Association hosts its annual banquet at 7 p m Thursday in the Catholic hall Carey. Speaker Charles Peters of Minerva, noted philosopher and humorist, headlines the event. Roy Sargeant of Payne leases the Duna room on south side of EB Findlay street formerly Sound Electric Corp and will open a dry goods and clothing store March 17. The Skogmo branch will offer dry goods ladies and men’s wear and home items with interior remodeling planned. Joan Sargeant, a high school freshman, will live above the shop during setup.

Norman Kromer and wife injured in collision near Carey

Norman Kromer age 29 and his wife Helen 24 of 206 North Vance street and Helen Hoy 16 of Kirby were injured when their car collided with a truck at the Routes 30 N and 96 intersection south of Carey. All three bruised. Mrs Kromer seriously hurt and later moved to Mercy hospital Tiffin.

House and Contents Destroyed by Fire

The Carey fire department responded at 1 30 Friday to Mr and Mrs John Bowling’s residence on N Vance street. The three room bungalow burned uncontrollably. the home and furnishings were destroyed. The Bowling family escaped in night clothing with their week old daughter. Loss estimated over 3000 insured. Calaway Risner owned the house. Mr Bowling worked for National Lime and Stone Co. The family is staying with Mrs Bowing’s parents in Tiffin.

Captain D P Moyer, stationed at Harmon Field Argentia Newfoundland, visited Westover Field Springfield Mass on Tuesday January 17 and spoke to his parents Dr and Mrs F L Moyer. He said Newfoundland was cold with heavy snow but his family is well and enjoying their stay.

Local Matron Elizabeth Stoll Celebrates 93rd Birthday

Mrs Elizabeth Ann Stoll of 317 North Vance Street quietly marked her 93rd birthday on Saturday January 14 1950 born January 14 1857 five miles south of Carey in Salem Township on a family farm now owned by nephew Foster Savidge. She and daughter Mrs Della Wenner were dinner guests of Mr and Mrs Harry Stoll at 629 West Findlay Street. Stoll's long life includes marriage to J J Stoll over 60 years until his 1936 death. eight children eight including daughter Mrs Ernest Walter who died 38 years ago and others Mrs Lillie Karr Mrs Flora McDonald Mrs Lewie Beis Mrs Della Wenner and Mrs Russell McEvoy. Sister Mrs Jane Burson aged 96 last Friday. Deceased siblings William Michael George Savidge and Mrs Laura Canouse. Stoll remains active with good health and broad friendships.
