Public School News reports Gaylord Patterson from Heidelberg College Tiffin spoke to the senior class on Thursday afternoon about college life. The Sunbonnet Girl, chosen as the high school operetta, is set for Tuesday evening February 18. watch this column for further notice.
At the annual staff meeting on Monday evening the committee completed plans for the chapel program to be presented Friday. Staff and seniors will participate. Commencement invitations will be chosen this week by a committee of Pauline Newcomer Mabel Altwater and Robert Wenner selecting three from each sample group and submitting to the class for final decision. The committee has reviewed samples from three concerns.
Carey defeats Fos toria St Wendelin on their home floor after two overtimes in a tight contest. Halftime stood 18-17, then 30-30 at full time. In the second overtime Kitzler starts Carey’s charge with a bucket, Twining adds four, and Twining completes a free throw after a foul to seal a 37-32 win.
Dr. E R Butcher of Heidelberg college spoke to the Kiwanis Club at Pilgrim House on Monday about the influence of a college on the surrounding territory. W L Arnholtz named Ralph Kurtz chair of the leisure time committee with H L Wenner and E S Burson as members. An American Legion post committee to promote youth recreation was also announced. New members include Albert Wagenknecht manager of New Galt Hotel Leonard Klein band director Carey schools and Clyde Kitto superintendent National Lime and Stone Co Carey plant.
Glenn Ellithorpe of Port Clinton assumed the Kroger store manager position in Carey on Monday. He has long service with the company and praised Carey and local citizens for the reception. His wife Mrs Ellithorpe plans to join him in Carey once a suitable location is found.
Walter Summers and Joyce Summers hosted relatives at the Perrysburg home of his parents on W South Street. Mrs Goss of Toledo and her nephew joined guests. the bride Alina Lee Beckman from Toledo became Mrs Summers on Christmas day.
A regular Rebekahs meeting is scheduled for Tuesday evening January 2. The winners of the airplane contest will be entertained by the losing side, and all members are urged to attend.
A fierce cold wave battered Carey on Wednesday driving temperatures from 19 above to 16 below by Thursday morning. Drifts 1 to 3 feet blocked Route 23 near Lake Brayton, stalling seven autos and three trucks. The Red Star bus assisted stranded travelers and stayed in Carey until roads clear.
Mrs Cleo Buckingham of W Brown avenue underwent a serious mastoid operation Tuesday morning at Findlay Home and Hospital with Dr Mowry as surgeon. The procedure lasted over two hours and followed a similar operation a year earlier after a long illness. She was recovering Wednesday. Relatives Mr and Mrs Howard Moe of Sylvania and her husband and niece Mrs Hugh Hayman visited during the day.
Two condemnation cases filed in common pleas court by state highway director John Jaster Jr. against John S Fox and Theresa Fox and against Frank Ogg and others seek right of way for a Carey road improvement east of Carey. The state offered $426.50 to one party and $1,057.60 to the other.
Earl Williams grew seriously ill with appendicitis Wednesday evening and was transported by Big Four train to Fostoria hospital about 5 0 this morning. His wife and Dr. R J Lemons accompanied him, and authorities expected an emergency operation on arrival. Goffs invalid car had taken him to the station after a failed attempt to reach Findlay.
A social session honoring the recent marriage of Miss Amelia Roszman and Legionnaire Clyde Howard was held with the Earl Green Post regular meeting Tuesday evening at the Legion hall. Ralph Futeraccini and Robert O'Connor led the refreshments committee with Mr Howard assisting.
Mr and Mrs G C Rickle and daughter express sincere thanks to all who helped during the illness and death of their child. They acknowledge flowers, Rev N W Sager for consoling words, the funeral singers and Undertaker W G Coldren for his services.
A Carey Ohio community meeting at the High School Auditorium discusses institute leadership with Allan Baker and T D Arnold on the Executive Committee. Officers listed include President Vice President Secretary and Treasurer.
A detailed timetable shows Monday to Tuesday morning through evening programs led by presiding officials. Entries include students, choirs, solos, dances, plays, and brief talks. A cooking and farm product judging offers blue and red ribbons with cash prizes for corn potatoes apples grains seeds honey and baked goods.
The department announces cash prizes for quilts and embroidery with 50 cents for first and 25 cents for second in several quilt categories. A $100 first prize and 50 cents second are available for the best antique display. Vocational Agriculture invites all to visit.

The National Lime and Stone Co. held its annual superintendents dinner in Carey last Saturday at the Pilgrim House. C G Knoblock presided with visiting superintendents from Bucyrus Arlington Findlay Lewisburg Rimer Lima Marion and Kitto Carey plant chief chemist C J Koehler also attended. Guests from Findlay included L G Love H F Flowers Clair Lytle Mel ford Culler W D Edwards and D Carpenter. The menu used hard rock terms such as Cranberry Cocktail Steak Parisian Potatoes Gravy Olives and Tea with items like Cable Drilling and Boiler Plate listed as part of the humorous supper array.
The three yearly subscriptions offered to parents of Carey area 1936 babies have been claimed. Jan 1 baby daughter of Mr and Mrs Paul Sammet earned one subscription. Jan 20 twins EarleS and Pearl Fay Dr named by Dr A W Balsley weighed 5% and 5% pounds. Jan 12 son Donald Raymond Collet born near Adrian qualifies for a subscription.
Mrs Myrtle Perkins of Carey sues Myrtle Andes of Fostoria in Seneca County Common Pleas claiming $5,000 for injuries from August 19 1934 at the intersection of U S Route 224 and the Fostoria New Riegel road west of Tiffin The petition says Andes failed to stop at the federal route and was traveling at 60 miles an hour while her car struck Perkins car driven by Prof Howard C Perkins of Findlay

An 8 pound daughter named Sharan Kay was born Tuesday night January 14 to Mr and Mrs Rollo Kimmel.
The week’s record shows pupils with 100 percent conduct led by Edward Davidson and Virginia Jacob among others. Spelling dictation peers Virginia Kurtz and Daniel O’Done achieved daily perfect scores. The second grade shared original riddles linked to reading material with solutions such as a ball an apple soap bubbles and Little Boy Blue.
The 8th grade lists perfect English scores for Ruth Hoff Ruth Helen Hoff Ida Ruffing Donald Reinhart and Maurice Zahn. Perfect arithmetic scores go to Ida Ruffing Donald Reinhart and James Vaughn.
Frank Warner, a WW II survivor and World War I era student from Austria who later became a U.S. citizen, will speak at the Methodist church Men's Night on January 30 at 6 30 pm. He will show war pictures as part of his address. The event menu features oyster stew and other dishes with Welham Pontins and Wesley Wonder leading the committees.
John Zortman the magician of Upper Sandusky and members of his troupe will entertain the Community Club and guests at their regular meeting on Monday evening. Zortman is well recommended and a pleasant evening of entertainment is assured. Pastor Jff Wetsreock of the First English Lutheran church will preside and speak.
