County leaders highlight postwar road and facility upgrades
Saturday December 39 marks the final meeting of the Wea OSpy democrats official. County commissioners report 210,000 in government bonds and 236 miles of county supervised surface roads with 20 new miles reconstructed aided by federal funds. Sixteen bridges and large culverts rebuilt after the 1927 flood. A postwar program targets about 121 miles of road reconstruction with available funds and a planned county highway garage. Improvements include courthouse and jail redecoration and a new lighting system at the county home reducing per capita costs.

Sergeant Coldiron reassigned at Miami Beach redistribution post
Sergeant Charles Coldiron, 24, of Carey, Ohio, arrived in Miami Beach Florida for reassignment processing after completing a tour outside the continental United States. He will undergo medical exams and interviews to determine a new post and will stay about two weeks for rest and recreation. Coldiron is a Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with 41 oak leaf clusters recipient and B 26 engineer gunner who flew seven missions over Europe. He has served in the Army since January 1942.

Twenty Nine WAC Members Honored at Fort Sheridan Birthday
Twenty nine members of the 29th WAC company at Fort Sheridan Illinois were honored on December 21 as the unit celebrated its second birthday. The women arrived December 30 1942 as the second WAC organization sent into the field from Fort Des Moines Iowa. Niederkohr Brother Wounded Twice in World War II
Fre-Léohard Niederkohr a son of Mr and Mrs William Niederkohr of south of Carey was moved by plane from France to a hospital in England. He was wounded in France June 3 and returned to duty August 24. He received a second wound in Germany October 22. Shrapnel in the hands caused complications and he was sent to England. Albert Niederkohr, a brother, serves with the U S Army in the Belgium Germany sector.
