Carey High School Concert Band Reschedules Winter Concert

The Carey High School Concert Band moves its Christmas program to Thursday evening January 17 at 8 in the high school auditorium. A revised program removes several Christmas selections replacing them with three new pieces while retaining seasonal favorites. Seventy five band members will perform a full evening of music.

The Junior Red Cross drive totals from Carey schools are Col. Crawford 21.44 dollars, West 14.00, High School 15.25, totaling 50.69 dollars. Chairmen named: Mrs. L. E. Offenbacher for all, Cecil Laird for Col. Crawford, Martha Spensler for West, and Lucia Grieser for the high school.

Students returning after Christmas notice dramatic changes in three high school rooms. New six u shaped fluorescent fixtures emit daylight like light, transforming gray upper walls and green red lower walls into a cheerier study environment.

Carey school pupils across eight grades report 100 percent in fire prevention. Each room received a $5 prize, totaling $85 presented by Tom Hilty for excellent cooperation, with a check signed by the Wyandot County Association of Insurance Agents. Rooms plan to buy books paints and supplies benefiting all students.

Bayes Baby Wins Derby In Carey 1952

The first baby born in Carey in 1952 is Bayes Baby, an eight pound nine ounce son born January 6 at 11 56 am at Valley Hospital. Parents Elgin and Sindhy Bayes of 439 East South Street receive a year’s Eagles membership for the father. Carey Businessmen’s Association and Carey merchants sponsored the Baby Derby with a generous list of gifts published in The Carey Times.

Sidney Watkins Promoted To Akron Assistant Superintendent

Sidney Watkins, longtime trainmaster of the A. C. & Y. railroad in Carey, has been transferred to Akron as assistant superintendent effective January 1. Mrs. Watkins and her daughters Judith Ann and Sandra will stay in Carey while the Schofields repair their Akron home. The Watkins family previously lived in Akron before moving to Carey.

The Dorcas Carey Public Library board reorganized at a Monday meeting. Officers elected for the coming year include President Ralph Vogel, Vice President Mrs George Newhard, Clerk and Librarian Miss Carolyn Newhard, Assistant Librarian Mrs Sam Wenner. Snyder Elected to Wittenberg Buildings and Grounds Panel
