The high school announces a minstrel show on January 14 in the auditorium, sponsored by Band Mothers' club with ticket sales by band members. The basketball team faces Upper Friday in what should be an exciting game. A new sophomore, Marilyn AHer, joins from LaRue and is welcomed.
Room 14 starts the year with 100 percent attendance as the week begins. In the arithmetic speed test, Willard Boyce took first place, Margaret Taylor second, and Johnny Conley third.
The school unveils a 3x3 foot wool flag purchased from candy savings and thanks parents for cooperation. Mary Ann Billock re-enrolled on Monday and Charlene Phillips transferred from West End building. Enrollment now stands at 33 with perfect attendance at year’s start.
A Marion field office representative will hold 4 to 5 pm office hours at Carey Municipal Building on Wednesday January 15 1941. Harold W Kramer Marion manager announced the event urging early proof of age for future old age and survivor benefits and listing Marion as the local office contact at 169 Center Street or the itinerant office at Carey.
The Garey Farmers' Community club met Monday evening December 30 to discuss Ladies' Night plans. L D Kingsbury of the Producers Cooperative Commission Association Columbus spoke on cooperative livestock marketing and emphasized correct weights and grades for the farm market. Charles Crise of Upper Sandusky gave piano and vocal solos.
A Carey district gathering of Ohio Fuel Gas staff was scheduled for Wednesday at the Pilgrim House from 1 to 5 p.m. The program featured talks by several members and a dinner afterward. Arrangements were made by Zack Montgomery Carey Frank Herman and L Storandt.
A 25 acre farm two miles west of Carey owned by Grant Johnson sold to Aloysius McLaughlin. The Raymond Platt home on Dow Street sold to Mrs. William Caldwell of south of Carey. Both transactions handled by John Risner real estate agency.
The Carey Garden club will hold a meeting this Thursday evening January 9 at the public library with Mrs Leora Frederick presiding. The public is invited to attend.
United States Attorney E B Ereed and Assistant John Paul Manton relay that Carey Ohio post office building may be postponed indefinitely, but condemnation of Orians property will proceed. Owners urged to remain or rent until title transfer and possible continued occupancy with fair rent.
The Fidelis Study Club will meet with Mrs Henry Fleck south of Carey this Thursday evening.
The Merry Minstrels of Bowling Green State University sponsored by the Carey Scholars present Ox-cart Gougae Minstrels on January 14 at 8 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Eugene W. Miller directs a blackface farce featuring seven endmen, Maurice Zahn, Rob ert Berardi, Skeets Galliher and others in a program of comedy and music.
Three Wyandot county officials elected last November assumed their new offices on Monday. Newly elected Sheriff Fred L. Jonas Coroner J M. Thompson and County Commissioner Chas A Went begin four year terms. They replace retiring Sheriff Harry Weatherholtz Coroner J A Peepsi and Commissioner MacLeod Brown. All new officials are Democrats and hold four year terms.
In Sandusky Ohio Judge Russell H Kear ruled yesterday that 15 year old Frank Spears who killed his father Elvin Spears 41 was justified by fatal abuse at their Nevada apartment. The boy pleaded guilty and was sent to the juvenile research bureau in Columbus and placed temporarily with the state welfare department.
Knights of Columbus sponsor a beano party at the Catholic hall on Thursday January 16 at 8 o clock to help defray the cost of the new heating unit. Refreshments will be served for players.
Mr and Mrs Lawrence Cole of near Mt Blanchard will entertain the Carey Woman's Benefit Association and their husbands at a potluck supper Friday evening. Members are asked to meet at the Moose hall.
Catey Temple No. 169 Pythian Sisters will meet Thursday evening January 16 to install the 1941 officers.
The Carey Kiwanis club held a regular meeting at Pilgrim House Monday evening and installed officers for 1941. President I. E. Mullholland. 1st vice president Harl F. Oling. 2nd vice president Zack Montgomery. secretary H. H. Mapes. board of directors include George Newhard Rev. Paul Vollrath and others. Committees named across public affairs publicity music program agriculture rural and urban vocational guidance attendance and more with members named.
An 8 pound 8 ounce daughter Louann Sue to Mr and Mrs Arden Schade on January 1 at 10 15 p m in E North street. A 7 pound 6 ounce daughter to Mr and Mrs Pearl Snook in the Nach bar building on Tuesday. A 6 pound 6 ounce son to Mr and Mrs Harry Stauffer near Sycamore Saturday night at Mercy hospital Tiffin. Mrs Stauffer formerly Miss Betty Puchta of Carey. An E W Moore ambulance moved the Stauffer family to the Puchta home near Sycamore. Findlay relatives note birth of a daughter to Mr and Mrs Jack Neumann of St Louis. The child Judith Ann weighed 6 pounds 6 ounces at birth. Charles Neumann and Mildred Kimmel are parents with maternal grandmother Mrs Willard Kimmel of Carey. The Neumann family resides at 533 W Lincoln street.
The Rev Donald W Cryer and Dr Richard F Scully joined a Toledo district group in a Hotel Seneca meeting with Bishop H Lester Smith. Ministers and superintendents from across the state accepted 825,500 as Ohio s share for a world relief drive, aiming for 100,000 on March 2 to be used for relief of suffering. The first Sunday in Bean will be designated A Day of Compassion.
The junior class hosts a chicken supper at Vanlue High School on Tuesday evening January 14 from 5 30 to 7 30 before the PTA meeting. Menu includes scalloped chicken creamed potatoes buttered corn apple salad Jello cake and coffee. Everyone is invited.
The Carey Townsend club convenes at the public library Worday evening January 13 to discuss the Townsend Recovery Plan. All members are invited and music is welcome as part of the gathering.
A series of evangelistic services will begin at Stiis Evangelical Church south of Varlue this Thursday evening at 7:45. Rev. Richard Appel of Findlay leads the meetings and the public is invited to attend.
At the Peoples Bank annual meeting on Wednesday afternoon six directors were reelected: T. E. Dromgold Fred Ewis H. E. Snyder L. G. Ranger H. B. Stief and George Ash. Dromgold was reelected president Ranger vice president Luther Haines cashier Frank Frederick and Miss Lucille Montague assistant cashiers were chosen.
Farmers with wheat stored on their farms should inspect it for moisture damage mold and musty odor. A large state flour mill reports poor quality wheat arriving and notes heat mold and damaged kernels from high moisture or lodged grain. If signs appear harvesters should dispose of affected wheat promptly.
Wyandot County announces the second selective service draft call with 27 volunteers listed and a total of 30 on the active list. The group will travel by bus to Columbus for the draft. Six new volunteers have joined the draft board roster: Charles Louis Dill, John Michael Black, Paul Gallant, Albert A. England, Irvin Ralph Garpenter, and Gaylord Charles Wood.
The Carey Wyandot county CCC contingent lists Glenn Clark Marcum Green William Montague Andy Willams Clarence Myers of Carey Minor Kirby of Sycamore Paul Mollencop Dale Larrick James Russell Alfred Stansberry of Upper Sandusky enrolled for Lima examinations. John Greer of Carey, CCC selecting agent, will oversee the trip with the next enrollment planned for April.
Carey Schools Band Mothers club meets this Thursday evening at the high school. The junior church program will be directed by William Holloway. Social committee includes Mrs F L Bland as chairman and members Mes Witham, Mrs G C Wagner, Mrs A W Luzader, Mrs D Ps Kitzlier, Mrs Maurice Gaster, Mrs Ralph Heck, and Mrs Emery Ulrich.
The Wesleyan Guild of the Methodist Sunday school will meet Monday evening at Watt. Mrs Paul Woods and Mrs Berkwath will assist, with Mrs Jack French and Dennis Ye Vene as hostesses. Mrs French will handle the devotionals.
The Jennie Larmonth Missionary Society of Christ Lutheran church meets at Mrs Gus Summit's home next Monday evening January 13. Miss Rosa Summit assists the hostess, and Mrs George Newhard with Mrs JFE Ziebarth conduct the lesson study.

One of the domino social events of the winter is the President's Birthday Ball at the Moose hall on January 30 to raise funds for the March of Dimes fight against infantile paralysis. Ernie Duffield's orchestra from Fostoria leads a six‑artist program including Donna Volkmer with engagements at local clubs and universities.
The Skylark chapter organized last September plans a trip to Columbus and is seeking chapter member names arcs and a group photo. They raised 17 dollars via cookie sales and a benefit show at Carey theatre to fund the journey. Eleanor McChesney is president Betty Kitzler vice president Gracetta Merrihew secretary Ruth Esther Baker treasurer Shirley Tracy reporter. Other members include Donna Mae Pahl Betty Jean Garn Betty Krom Elsie Sturgeon and Catherine Weaver Miss Helen Smith is their counsellor.
There will be work in the first degree at Vanlue lodge hall on Saturday evening January 18 under Toledo lodge. Second degree work at Carey I O O F hall Thursday January 23 led by Wharton lodge. Third degree at Findlay lodge Tuesday January 28 with 15 candidates. Officers to be installed January 30 at Carey lodge: Noble grand Ralph Phillips vice grand Forrest Dame treasurer G W Bish secretary Van Baker.
The Farmers & Sportsmen Protective Association met Monday evening. Leo Fisher was elected president and Harry Myers the druggist was chosen secretary treasurer. The club voted to purchase twelve cock pheasants and some rab bets to be released locally. Next meeting set for January 20.
Stanley Opper and Golden Tong circulated a petition urging removal of the curve on Route 103 after the death of Greeley Marshall Jr. on December 21. The Carey school district board joined the request, citing difficulty for school officials to manage the bend.
Palm Leaf Rebekah Lodge holds a regular meeting Tuesday evening January 14 with the 1941 officers to be installed. The lodge will begin at 7 30 and a potluck will follow the installation.
