The Carey school district reaffirms its new evening physical education program run by physical education teachers. It outlines the weekly schedule for girls and boys from grades 5 to 12 and adults from high school age upward, stressing wholesome recreation and healthful fitness amid the national crisis.
Village officials elected in November 1941 took the oath Monday evening to serve two years. Sworn were Mayor B. M. Bachar clerk Jacob Nitrauer treasurer L Culler councilmen Paul Heck president John Pahl W H Huston and Harry Myers J W Markley and Free Scource republican. Harry Rook and Paul Krupp were retiring. Finance committee named John Pahl chairman Paul Heck J W Markley. Trustees of public affairs sworn in R J Williams chairman Harry Bowman Wallace Dible. Retiring were Harry Wyatt and Deputy Sheriff Ed Mullholand.
Miss Betty Hamler, a Bowling Green State University sophomore, returned to campus from Christmas vacation with her parents. She recently joined Phi Mu and serves on the program committee for an upcoming dance. Hamler was named chairman of the refreshment committee for the Skol Sorority Sweater Swing dance on January 10.
The Wesleyan Guild class of the Methodist Sunday school will meet Monday evening with hosts and hostess helpers listed. Mrs. Donald W. Cryer will lead devotions and Mrs. Irene Bowers will display a button collection as part of the program.
The Research club will meet Friday afternoon at the home of Mrs. W. G. Bradley on E. Findlay street. Hostesses Mrs. Millie Payne and Mrs. Rose Diller assist, with Mrs. Frank McDonald Miss Mattie Myers and Mrs. J. A. Lantz on the program committee.
Wallace Lyong Arnholt 47 longtime Bellevue city schools superintendent died suddenly at his home today from coronary thrombosis after reporting I felt a cold and planning a Wednesday physical. He had led Bellevue schools since 1937 after a career at Spencer Harpster Tiro Carey and other districts and served overseas in World War I.
Prosecuting Attorney William J. Hunter reports a ruling by Ohio's attorney general that Porter A. Hendriks may serve as clerk of courts only for the remainder of the term if no general county election occurs in that period. Since the next county election is due next fall, a candidate must run for the final two years of the unexpired term.
Rev. Donald W. Cryer of Carey Methodist addressed the Findlay Methodist Men’s Club at a dinner on Keep ’em Flying. He plans to speak at Epworth Church in Lima on Modern Man’s Lost Art as Lima hosts a week of prayer services.
Troop I of the Girl Scouts will meet at the home of Mrs William Holloway this Thursday evening at 7 30. Plans for future meetings will be made, so all members are asked to be present.
The city issues a notice calling for bids for additional police and street staff through January 19 and seeks four or five extra volunteer firefighters for the fire department. Mayor B. M. Bachar signs the notice.
All officers and members are asked to attend Friday evening at 8:00. A practice for the installation will be held Friday, January 16.
Carey reports Pruth McFarlin, famed Negro tenor, will give a concert at Christ Lutheran Church on Friday January 16 at 7 30 pm. A Southern university and Eastman School graduate, he sings in four languages and performs spirituals and plantation melodies. He is paralyzed in infancy and performs seated with his wife Hazel McFarlin. No admission but offerings go to Piney Woods school.
Carey mayor B M Bachar notes many truck and bus owners have not replied to a September questionnaire. Executive director Courtney Burton stresses wartime importance of early returns. Questionnaires should be mailed to Cylan W Wallace, Registrar of Motor Vehicles, 275 S Fourth Street, Columbus, Ohio.
The Jennie Larmonth Missionary society of Christ Lutheran Church will meet Monday evening at 8 o clock in the home of Mrs Walter Gottfried east of Carey. Mrs Clarence J Hagley will lead the lesson titled Our Church Faces Her World Task. Secretary Miss Rosa Summit asks members to bring their November and December magazines for the quiz.
The Rebekah lodge holds its regular meeting Tuesday evening January 13. The 1942 officers will be installed with installing officers present for practice Monday at 7 30. A potluck supper follows the Tuesday meeting.
The Dorcas Bible class of the Methodist Sunday school will meet this Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. J. A. McDaniel on W Findlay street. Mrs. Fred Lee of Vanliu and Mrs. J. A. Lantz will assist ing hostesses.
The W. G. T. U. will hold a regular meeting Thursday at 2 00 pm. The gathering takes place at the home of Miss Sue Gilliland and Miss Della Gilliland on S Patterson street.

Vocational guidance chaired by Sr E Mulholland with Supt Earl Driver. Classification and membership chaired by Burson with Snyder Bristoll. Citizenship and boys and girls work chaired by S W McChesney with Shantz Huston Montgomery. Under privileged children chaired by Dr L E Treece with Mulholland Steinmetz Stief. Achievement Club secretary and committee chairs. Interclub relations chaired by Supt Driver with Beck with Hamlet. Support of churches chaired by Rev Cryer with Rev Paetznick. Dining room chaired by George Newhard. Directors I E Mulholland Steinetz Long Keller Beckwith. Program Committees for 1949 list monthly appointments through December with various chairmen and co-chairmen.
The Dorcas Carey public library board elected D. T. Hart for another term as president at the annual reorganizational meeting on Monday evening. John Jacoby was reelected vice president and Carolyn Newhard named clerk for a one year term with William Pontius as assistant librarian. other trustees include Mrs. S. R. Bame Supt Earl B. Driver Mrs. George Newhard Mrs. C. C. Wenner and Mrs. Homer Wonder.
The Methodist Woman's Society of Christian Service will meet next Wednesday at 7 30 in the church parlors. Mrs Donald W Cryer program chairman will supervise installation for 1942 officers and pledge service for the 1942 budget. Mrs Frank Frederick and Mrs E F Thome are hostesses. Mrs S R Bame president chairs the business session.

The Carey Farmers and Sportsmen Protective Association will meet Friday evening January 23 at the Moose hall. An election of officers will be held and a good feed will be served. All members are urged to attend. Leo Fisher, president.
Carey Kiwanis invitees will attend the inauguration of Dr Clyde Hissong as governor of Ohio Kiwanis in Bowling Green Ohio on Thursday January 15. A 6 pm banquet precedes a dance with Rev Philip Auer delivering the inaugural address and Hissong responding. New officers include Stephen Beard John Flaig Fred Riley John McCrystal Herbert Doughty Henry Williams William Darrah Charles Palmer Clyde Tschantz Francis Wise Edward Cleary.
The revival at Memorial Evangelical Church will run through Sunday evening with Miss Janie Bradford preaching full gospel messages. Many attendees have prayed at the altar and others professed Christ. Edith Gallagher provides solos and leadership in song as crowds from Findlay and beyond attend.
Eugene Hendricks buys P A Hendricks stake in the Hendricks Bros hay straw and wool concern after P A Hendricks is named clerk of courts for Wyandot county. He will keep offices in Carey and Vanlue and seeks to buy hay and straw now.
The Band Mothers' Club will meet at the high school on Monday January 12 at 4 30 pm. All mothers of students in the beginners junior or senior bands are invited to attend.
Sonny Williams and his orchestra perform every Saturday and Sunday evening at Healey's Tavern, delivering live music nights for local crowds.
The Carey Community club plans a banquet in honor of the wives of its members. The event is scheduled for Monday evening January 26 at the Catholic hall.
Officials estimated 1 300 000 men aged 20 to 44 not on selective service rolls could be called immediately under the new law. The proclamation sets February 16 as the registration date with about 9 000 000 men affected and potential calls totaling over 4 000 000 to arms.
Twenty one F F A boys plus instructor F O Abel and James Gibson traveled 2400 miles through eight southern states returning to Carey on a Saturday. They left Carey December 26 and visited Kentucky Tennessee Georgia Florida North Carolina South Carolina Virginia West Virginia and Ohio.
Carey residents faced a sharp cold snap with temperatures dropping to 4 below on Monday followed by 7 below on Tuesday and 3 below on Wednesday. By 10 p.m. Wednesday the reading was 5 below. The spell broke the prior mild fall and early winter weather.
Carey Council Knights of Columbus will host district 17 councils at the Catholic hall Tuesday evening. District Deputy A Lonsway of Carey will recap a state officers meeting in Columbus held Sunday January. The program will be followed by refreshments and entertainment.
Bids will be opened at the state highway department in Columbus for repaving N. Vance street from Findlay street to the A C Y railroad and widening between North street and Dow. Estimated cost 14500 dollars with the village contributing 3000 dollars.
The Victory class of the Methodist Sunday school will meet Thursday evening at Mrs. Willis Wonder's home 422 Center Street Findlay. Mrs. Fred Mitchell and Mrs. George Shuman will assist as hostesses.
