Valeria Thomas reports that schools delayed Friday and resumed Tuesday due to icy roads. Most faculty and students returned with little unrest. Semester tests are set for next Friday and the Carey Community Institute will be at the high school with posters invited.
Mr and Mrs Linus Reinhart of Carey received telegrams and 30 cards from across the United States reporting that their son Donald William Reinhart a U S A A Fy service gunner on a heavy bomber was captured when his plane was shot down over axis territory and is now in a German prison camp. Messages came from New York Philadelphia and other cities noting prior Red Cross notices that he had been missing in action since October 10 and was believed a German prisoner.
Plans by Harl Burson Carey committee chairman set the 4th War Loan Drive to open January 18 and close February 15. The same solicitor group from the Third War Loan Drive will be used, with a meeting called once literature arrives.
A. J. Hart of 304 Lake Street Kissimmee Florida renewed his Carey Times subscription and praised the paper saying it is the most interesting paper we receive as it tells of people we have known the longest.
Corporal Albert Niederkohr receives a promotion to sergeant while on furlough at home with his parents near Carey. He returns to Camp Phillips Kansas after a ten day leave to learn of the new rank.
The Jennie Larmonth Missionary Society will meet at the home of Mrs J A Haines on West Findlay Street Monday evening. Mrs Russell Gottfried will lead the lesson study.
Round and square dancing to music by the Victory Boosters Saturday night at the Eagles hall. Door prizes of 3.00 war stamps offered.
The Wyandot county fair board appoints Samuel Lawrence as vice president and elects Carl Heistand and Alva Schertzer as new board members. Harry Hudson resigns as secretary after four years, moving to Navy service. R. E. Culver remains treasurer as the board notes debt reduction and improvements during Hudson's tenure.
Lt. John F. Byers of the U S Army Air Corps is transferred from Dalhart Texas to Clovis New Mexico as pilot of a new B 29 bomber. He was among the top three pilots called to the assignment. The B 29 is a large modern bomber said to cross the Atlantic without refueling. Mrs. Byers moves from Dalhart to Clovis.
1st Lt. Richard W. Ewing grandson of Mrs. J. D. Ewing of Carey has completed 25 missions as a navigator based in England and earned the Distinguished Flying Cross with three oak leaf clusters. Recently he has lectured on navigation at a combat crew replacement center.
A government notice warns that mail addressed to armed forces overseas may be altered and not recorded. individuals wanting full addresses published in this column should call the censorship office for clarification.
A dense roster lists military personnel and assigned post office boxes with district locations. Names include Leonard Niederkohtz, Frank Shenk, Richard E. Ewing, and James B. Kramer among others, tied to units or training stations in New York, Brooklyn, Camp Peary Virginia, Cherry Point North Carolina, Bowman Field Kentucky, and Clovis New Mexico with various AP or O duty office codes.
Caray Council No 1925 Knights of Columbus will host a card party at the K of C hall on Thursday evening January 6. All Knights and their ladies are urged to attend and each member is asked to bring another couple.
Newly elected Carey village officials will take oath at a special village council meeting. The slate includes B Bachar mayor and several Republicans and Democrats. Retiring members are listed. re-elected officials include Paul Heck and J W Markley. An entirely new Board of Public Affairs will assume office Friday with Cline Shuman and Gaster serving. Clerk Jacob Nuraurer begins his seventh term and treasurer I L Culler his third.

A R Cramer of Wharton buys the Mullholand Implement Co from H J Mullholand and takes possession. The Mullholand agency sold International Harvester products, and Cramer will continue to sell and service IH units in the territory. He also operates a Wharton hardware store and is the local IH dealer.
Marilyn Mitsch, a -year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Mitsch of North Vance Street, fractured the bone in her left leg when a swing rope broke Sunday evening. The fall occurred at the Wisner home north of Upper Sandusky. She was taken to Findlay hospital where the bone was set and she will remain for several weeks.
I wish to thank all of my friends and neighbors who called to see me and who sent cards, gifts and flowers while I was a patient at Findlay hospital.
The American Red Cross mobile unit returns to Upper Sandusky and Wyandot County on January 24 and 25. Many rejections due to colds are expected, so volunteers are needed to assist with registrations at multiple local points.
Mrs Sara Dill of Frederick Street reports 14 relatives in the armed services. Her two sons Pfc Charles Dill and Pvt James Dill serve in the Army, son-in-law Pvt Thomas Corwin with the Marines, and 11 grandsons in the Army Navy and Air Corps including S Sgt Willis Green Pfc Ralph Jacques Pfc John Jacques Pvt Bernie Jacques Pvt Chester England Pvt Glenn Clark Darrold England De Moyne England Charles Clark and Set Franklin Corwin.
The American Legion Auxiliary will host a benefit card party at the Legion Hall Tuesday evening January 11, not January 10 as previously announced. Chairs are Mrs Paul Krupp and Mrs P J Niederkohr with assistants including Mrs John Puchta and several others.
Mr and Mrs Joseph Fabiani of N Patterson street report their son Pvt Anthony P Fabiani was slightly wounded in action on December 8 in Italy per the war department.
Pythian Sisters Carey Temple No. 169 will hold a regular meeting this Thursday evening at Castle Hall.

The Carey Schools Band Mothers Club sponsors a bake sale on Wednesday January 12 at the Patey gas office. Proceeds support band activities and student programs. Community members are invited to attend and purchase baked goods.

The Carey Institute plans a two day program at the Carey Community high school building on Wednesday and Thursday December 12 13 and January 12. Included are invocations by Rev Wade H Kionns program addresses by Ralph B White and Mrs Henry Ebert musical numbers by high school groups and student productions with committee appointments and class assignments announced by President T D Romig and Principal I E Mulholland.
Reid Burson returns to Columbus to start his senior year at Ohio State University. He majors in physiological chemistry and plans to enter medical school in October. He has been pledged to Nu Sigma Nu medical fraternity.
Acting sergeant and Mrs Clarence Elchert of 314 miles east of Carey hear a long distance call from their son Corporal Franklin Wiehert stationed at Camp Cooke California. Wiehert has completed much of his training successfully.
Mrs Corrinne Putnam of North Vance street received a Christmas greeting cablegram from her son Pvt Robert S Putnam now in Italy. She also got New Year greetings by V mail. Robert recently met Pvt Vincent R Jacob in North Africa and Sgt Frank Frederick in Italy.

Mrs. Peter Arend 30 miles west of Carey received a cablegram from Pfc. Norman F. Arend who was recently transferred overseas. The message read Love and best wishes for Christmas and the New Year to all. All well.
Dr H K Van Buren has been commissioned captain in the medical corps and will undergo six weeks training at Carlisle Barracks Pa starting Wednesday of last week.
