School Briefs report on icy closure and tests

Valeria Thomas reports that schools delayed Friday and resumed Tuesday due to icy roads. Most faculty and students returned with little unrest. Semester tests are set for next Friday and the Carey Community Institute will be at the high school with posters invited.

Reinhart Family Receives War News From Prisoner Son

Mr and Mrs Linus Reinhart of Carey received telegrams and 30 cards from across the United States reporting that their son Donald William Reinhart a U S A A Fy service gunner on a heavy bomber was captured when his plane was shot down over axis territory and is now in a German prison camp. Messages came from New York Philadelphia and other cities noting prior Red Cross notices that he had been missing in action since October 10 and was believed a German prisoner.

War Loan Drive Set To Start January 18 In Carey

Plans by Harl Burson Carey committee chairman set the 4th War Loan Drive to open January 18 and close February 15. The same solicitor group from the Third War Loan Drive will be used, with a meeting called once literature arrives.

Pilot Byers Assigned to New B 29 Bomber Role

Lt. John F. Byers of the U S Army Air Corps is transferred from Dalhart Texas to Clovis New Mexico as pilot of a new B 29 bomber. He was among the top three pilots called to the assignment. The B 29 is a large modern bomber said to cross the Atlantic without refueling. Mrs. Byers moves from Dalhart to Clovis.

Dick Ewing Receives Flying Decoration for 25 Missions

1st Lt. Richard W. Ewing grandson of Mrs. J. D. Ewing of Carey has completed 25 missions as a navigator based in England and earned the Distinguished Flying Cross with three oak leaf clusters. Recently he has lectured on navigation at a combat crew replacement center.

A R Cramer of Wharton buys the Mullholand Implement Co from H J Mullholand and takes possession. The Mullholand agency sold International Harvester products, and Cramer will continue to sell and service IH units in the territory. Girl Injured In Swing Accident At Upper Sandusky Home

Marilyn Mitsch, a -year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Mitsch of North Vance Street, fractured the bone in her left leg when a swing rope broke Sunday evening. The fall occurred at the Wisner home north of Upper Sandusky. She was taken to Findlay hospital where the bone was set and she will remain for several weeks.
