Carey Community Club discusses wool and sheep for market

The Carey Community club met last Thursday evening to discuss wool and the best sheep for market. R H Sturgeon, agriculture teacher, explained desirable animal types and breeding stock selection. Music by Robert Mott on accordion, with planning by Mark Karr, Lawrence Orians and Mott. Oyster soup lunch by J A Vaughn and Allan Baker. A J Hart Retires After 40 Years with A C Y Railroad

Mr and Mrs A J Hart of Akron visited Carey on Wednesday and Thursday. Hart retired January 1 1940 after forty years as master bridge carpenter for the A C Y railroad. A farewell banquet was held in Akron Friday night with Ralph Greene, bridge gang boss from Carey, in attendance. Hart, a Carey native, long resided in Akron and often returned to Carey for work.

Pythian Sisters to Initiate Members Tonight

At the regular meeting of the Pythian Sisters at 7 30 this Thursday evening there will be initiation. All officers and degree staff members should be present. The meeting will be followed by a potluck and social hour.

New Years Day Two Weddings

The marriage of Rev. Evan D. Jones son of Mr and Mrs Andrew Jones of Columbus and Miss Ruby Rothgeb daughter of A M Rothgeb of Carey was solemnized at Carey Memorial Evangelical church on New Years Day at 1 p m in the presence of about a hundred relatives and friends The ceremony was performed by Rev Earl A Rothgeb brother of the bride and pastor of the Evangelical church at Beriton Ridge He used the single ring service assisted by Rev Harry Hashberger of Evanston Il brother in law of the bride and Rev Fred Shiltz of near Zanesville brother in law of the groom Attendants were Andrew B Jones Jr best man and Mrs Harry Hashberger matron of honor The bride wore a white satin gown with veil and tiara of lilies of the valley She carried an arm bouquet of calla lilies and babys breath The matron of honor wore a Peach crepe gown and carried American Beauty roses The church was decorated with palms and ferns and candles Following the ceremony a reception was held at the bride's home for near relatives and a few friends Refreshments were served After a short trip Mr and Mrs Jones will be at home at Lucasville where the groom is pastor of the United Brethren church. They have the congratulations of their many friends.

Carey Memorial Church Hosts Second New Year Wedding

Clarence Sublett of Guy Kentucky and Miss Mary Phillips of Springville wed at 6:00 p m in a ring ceremony at Carey Memorial church. Rev B L Lee officiated with Mrs Cloyce Rader and Mrs Kenneth Dame singing. After the ceremony a reception was held at the bride’s home and the couple will reside with the Phillips family.

Legion public meeting set at high school auditorium

Earl Green Post 344 American Legion will hold a public meeting at the high school auditorium on Tuesday January 14 at 8 p m. Department Commander RB Gardner of Mansfield will be principal speaker with Dr I Kurtz district commander from Fremont also scheduled to speak. The public is invited to hear the Legion aims.

Services were held Friday morning December 29 for Rev Aloysius Hansen O M C former assistant at the Shrine in St Anthony's church Lorain Archbishop Schrembs celebrated the Solemn Pontifical Mass Burial followed at Mt St Francis Ind Hansen born Massillon March 2 1905 ordained June 1928 served at Mt St Francis St Ann's Chicago Heights St Joseph Terre Haute and Carey before becoming pastor of Lorain parish in 1935 He leaves parents two brothers and a sister Twenty two Franciscans from Carey attended the funeral.

Knisely Named Local Agent For Frigidaires And RCA Radios

B L Knisely formerly of Bucyrus is engaged by J F Dible to handle sales of Frigidaires RCA radios and other appliances. He is married with two children Betty 10 and Reta 8. The family plans to move to Carey soon as Knisely began duties there at the start of the year. He comes from Ulmer Electric Co in Bucyrus with eight years in sales and is an expert radio mechanic.

Carey School Board Reorganized for 1940

The Carey school district board convened in Sept at Earl B. Driver's office and elected Dr. H. K. Van Buren president and Russell Gottfried vice president. New member D J. Frazier and Dr. Lowell Treece joined, succeeding C. C. Wenner and J. F. Dible. Rev Cyprian Terwoord was named to a 7 year library term, replacing Mrs J Kohmann. The Adrian district transfer was accepted and monthly meetings set for the second Tuesday, with authority to meet any Tuesday.

North Central Electric co operative holds annual meeting

The North Central Burial Electric co operative held its annual meeting at the Tiffin junior high building with morning and afternoon sessions. R J Williams reported 21 months of operation and expansion plans for about 85 miles of line. Leaders urged comparing electric costs with other power on farm purchases. Local figures included Myron V Case and H J Wolf elected to Wyandot and Seneca county seats, and Robert J Reinhart named to the western Seneca seat. Attendance was good but organizers seek higher turnout next year. E Gottfried arranged bill collection service for REA members with due dates fixed. Reorganization on Saturday in Attica re elected L B Keller president, H J Wolf vice president, and Myron V Case secretary treasurer.

Last Saturday night a severe cold snap brought subzero wind chills and an official low around 2 a.m. Sunday. Warmth returned briefly with a Wednesday sun but frigid conditions persist.
