Last Friday afternoon W H Iry returning from Findlay with Misses Luella and Josie Rowe when two boys on the road near Aaron Shuck farm fired a shot at their auto. The bullet hit the car but caused no damage. The act is described as reckless and dangerous for road travelers.
Deputy County Auditor G. Ray Morehart is now his own housekeeper while Mrs. Morehart is at Carey with her parents. The family spent Christmas there and their little daughter Helen was suddenly taken sick just before they were ready to start home. Mrs. Morehart remained.
Two weeks earlier J F Sholl of Alvada reported a lost dog to the Times. An ad in the want column caught L Ogg's eye who phoned Sholl to return the canine, proving advertising pays.
Mrs Harriet Franks died at 9 26 PM after a seven hour illness of heart trouble and lung congestion at 432 West Sandusky Street. Born January 1866 in Wapaconeta she lived in Findlay since marriage to Franklin Franks in 1893. Survived by her father Dr A C Barnes and sisters Miss Helen and Miss Jennie Barnes. Funeral Tuesday at First Methodist Church with Dr C C Paule presiding.
Atty John T Carey of the Red Cross Upper Sandusky chapter reports Cleveland released casualties under local jurisdiction. The list dated November 1, 1918 includes Ira Fowler Nevada dead Charles Sore Upper Sandusky dead Lowmaster Upper Sandusky dead Herschel H Moffet Wyandot County wounded Forrest Ranch Sycamore dead Dale Smith Marseilles wounded Jaspar S Spahr Sycamore dead.
Monday evening Jeremiah Garn fell while climbing stairs at his North Vance Street home. He fractured his right hip and remains in serious condition. Garn was alone when the accident happened. his daughter and son-in-law Delmar and Leora Mulvane of Marion arrived moments later. Garn had been in failing health for some time.
Dr. T. A. Spitler Mrs. Spitler and daughter Annabel plus Mrs. H. M. Beck arrived in Findlay last Thursday from Chattanooga where Dr. Spitler trained as a medical corps lieutenant. The group has had influenza bouts and Mrs. Spitler's grandmother Mrs. Margaret Cole of Mt. Blanchard is very ill.
Mrs Catherine C Myers widow of Joseph Myers died in Lebanon on Thursday at age 79. A former Carey resident, she leaves a daughter and a son. Mr Myers predeceased her by forty years at Berwick. Chief?
The final account for Amos Bixby’s estate was filed in probate court last Friday, detailing the closing of affairs and distribution actions.
Reports from Upper Sandusky and surrounding areas include a golden wedding anniversary for Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Greek of Upper Sandusky, several deaths influenza and pneumonia, four marriage licenses, political changes in county offices, court actions, a fatal peanut choking incident, and local legal cases. The defendant was arraigned and pled guilty then sentenced to one year in the Columbus workhouse and to pay costs. Chief.
Otway Wood of Columbus and Anna Male Myers of Carey were married at Rev. C. C. Kennedy home in Upper Sandusky on Tuesday afternoon. The bride, daughter of Dr. J. B. Myers, wore blue messaline and will live in Columbus where Wood works as a conductor on the Hocking Valley line. The ceremony used a ring service with Mrs. Wood and Miss Eva Scoarse as witnesses. The couple visited Waterville with the bride’s mother before returning to Carey for a celebratory homecoming in their hometown.
Monday evening saw the annual installation of Western Star officers. Mrs. S. M. Ranger acted as installing officer and Miss Maude Snyder as installing marshal. Names of officers include Worthy Matron Mrs. Mark Karr, Worthy Patron Mr. C. M. Beitler, and other appointed roles. A pleasant social session followed the ceremonies.
Callie C Longworth leaves the Arlingtonian to lead the Forest Review Advertiser owned by Dr. G H Harper of Findlay. Longworth, a skilled printer with ten years in country journalism, is expected to bring improvements and receive local support for success.
Police in five cities search for Marion Lee 14 missing from Tiffin Ohio. Her father Wallace Lee teaches in government schools in Christobal Canal Zone and plans to reunite with daughter once found. A 21 year old man is held in Cleveland related to the case.
Large congregation attends Midnight Mass at Our Lady Of Consolation Church despite bad weather. Father Fish celebrates and preaches the service. Masses follow at 7 30 and 10 30 in the church basement with strong attendance.
Harold Houk of Naval Officers' Training School Camp Lawrence Great Lakes returned to the Lakes Thursday after a five day furlough at the home of his parents Mr and Mrs W H Houk.
The Red Cross notes a total of 4672.97 pounds of food shipped to Allies in August 1918 and reports fresh harvests at hospital gardens in France yielding 23 tons of greens and a large potato crop. Carey Branch received refugee garments and the organization extends membership through the week after Christmas.
A judge in the common pleas court heard Luella and Josephine Rowe on jurisdiction for Mary J. Kneasal's will. Kneasal died a non resident with two wills probated in Crawford and Hancock counties while she lived in Fostoria. Judge Dorsey reserved ruling as local attorneys from Wostoria Carey and Upper Sandusky appeared.
Ridge township farm bureau will meet at the township house Friday evening January 3. It was organized December 20 with B. Ke. Hudson as chairman. Department heads listed include Willis Tong crops, Hosea Tong soil, J. M. Updegratt horticulture, R. C. Wickiser commercial, Sam Romig boys and girls club, Wm. Walter.
Here from the West Mr and Mrs Glenn Carothers of Tracy Montana are wintering with relatives in Michigan and Ohio. They have spent the past week with Carothers mother Mrs J H Carothers. They farm on a large scale, tending 504 acres in Montana.
The last issue of the Cootie, the High School paper, was dedicated to former students who wore the uniform. The late Paul Blue was specially honored. From a newspaper point of view this second issue was much superior to the first.
Harry Turnbell, stationed at Norfolk for over two years, has been mustered out of the Navy though subject to call for three more years. He arrived in Carey last week and was commissioned Ensign just before mustering out.
The Farm Bureau will hold a regular session Saturday afternoon in the farmers' room of the courthouse to plan business for 1919 and arrange for the purchase of fertilizer.
Mrs. Julian Bakies has word her son Harry of Company I 146th U S Infantry was wounded in the leg while serving overseas.
