Legion Post 344 to Hold Open Meeting and Smokers

A meeting of the Earl C. Green Post No 344 American Legion was held at the Public Library last Friday. A special meeting was called for Monday March 1 at the Moose Hall with open invitations to ex veterans for fellowship and a smoker. Carey Public School Ordered Remodels By Ohio Inspectors

The Carey Public School on South Street faced a strict 12 point order from Ohio’s Division of Public Buildings. The plan requires new stair handrails and treads, removal of storage closets, updated flooring, removal of several small rooms, stop using gas and oil stoves, install sanitary toilets, upgrade heating and ventilation to meet 70 degrees and six air changes per hour, redesigned seating aisles, limit one pupil per desk, emergency doors, and submission of remodeling plans for approval before classes resume.

Strand Adds New Motor Driven Picture Machine

The Strand theater has ordered a late-model motor driven picture machine to be installed within two to three weeks. The upgrade will allow a continuous show with no stops, improve projection and reduce noise, and when combined with a new power plant, will yield brighter pictures and position the Strand among the best motion picture houses.

Extended Doty trip ends with family visits and a new arrival

Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Doty returned from an extended visit with their daughter and son in law Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Eyer in Alma Michigan. A daughter was born there. They traveled via Clayton Michigan to visit L. B. Bookwalter and then Defiance Ohio to see Elijah Doty. In Findlay they visited Emma Bookwalter and Elizabeth. Before returning home they stayed with C H Doty and friends at Houcktown.

Funeral Attended by Local Families for Mrs Stearns

Mr and Mrs Albert Adelsperger and Mr and Mrs Claire Shireman attended the funeral of Mrs Sam Stearns near Risingson. Mrs Stearns aged 37 died from pneumonia following influenza. She leaves a husband and two young daughters all ill with flu, youngest not expected to live.

Bond bid swap for power plant rebuild discussed at council

At Monday's council meeting it was decided to switch from 5 percent bonds to 5 percent bonds for rebuilding the power plant. Stracy and Bran withdrew their tentative offer to buy 5 percent bonds. Bond houses expressed willingness to bid at higher rates. A complaints service notice lists Mr. Charles Hammack, inspector, to visit Carey Friday and Saturday February 27 and 28.

Funeral for Lewis G. Hart Held at Home

Funeral services for Lewis G. Hart were held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at his Mast South street home, with Rev. W Elmer Bailey of Columbus and Rev. C L Kern of Carey presiding. A duet and solos accompanied scripture readings formed the program amid numerous floral tributes from family, employers, classes, and neighbors. Pallbearers were Knights of Pythias members Peter Long, Earl Black, Charles Yardhner, Roy Kirkwood, Jay Black and Ralph McKinnon. Attendees from out of town included Rev. Bailey, Mrs. Hendricks and daughter Mother, and several relatives from nearby towns.

Wyandot County sets Near East Relief quota drive

Wyandot County Near East Relief meets to raise a total quota of 4928 from March 1 to 7. Townships and villages including Antrim Crane Crawford Eden Jackson Marseilles Mifflin Richland Ridge Salem Sycamore T mochtee and several corporations are assigned specific amounts with chairmen to be appointed and solicitors enlisted to canvass their districts.

Fire Damages Roof In Corner Lot Blaze

Firefighters respond to a small blaze at the Vaner and Nowsree corner house owned by Joe Herrick. Mrs. Chas Yaidhner, occupying part of the home, started a fire in a stove which ignited the shingle roof causing about 10 dollars in damage. Volunteers assisted to the roof and extinguished the flames before the fire department arrived, using a chemical extinguisher.
