Reading Specialist Demonstrates Skills at Carey School

Miss Gladys Wickwire, a reading specialist, visited Carey Elementary last week in two sessions at the West building. In first grade, Mrs Spensler's group welcomed the demonstration and a conference followed with teachers Mrs Martha Spensier, Mrs Marie Schwemley, Mrs Margaret Credielott, Mrs Treva Gunther, Mrs Bertha Crumrine, Mrs Gladys Crouse, Mrs Olive Lanning and Miss Wealtha Wentling. A second session occurred in Mrs Lanning's fourth grade with teachers Mrs Bertha Crumline, Mrs Gladys Crouse, Mrs Olive Lanning, Miss Wealtha Wentling, Miss Billie Schubert and Miss Opal Oman while high school students filled in.

Essays On The American Way In Legion Contest

In Carey only two candidates filed nominating petitions for village council by February 2. Charles Hail and William Humbert seek election as three council seats will be vacant with Mapes Heck and Dible not seeking reelection. No primary will be held in May. remaining council members are Mayor Wagner and Bachar.

Mayor and Mrs Wagner Return From Florida Trip

Mayor and Mrs. G C Wagner returned Wednesday evening from a four week Florida tour visiting Orlando Jacksonville Punta Gorda Fort Myers Fort Lauderdale Melbourne Titusville and Daytona. The trip included handshaking with Florida officials and a reference to Carey Ohio. Wagner noted his city lies about 50 miles south of Toledo.

Twins Contract Pneumonia At Findley Hospital

Moretta and Alfred Jr six month old twins of Mr and Mrs Alfred Stansbery of 527 West Street are ill with pneumonia. Moretta was taken to Findley hospital last Friday after a week of illness and has double pneumonia requiring oxygen part of the time. Alfred Jr has pneumonia in his left lung and was taken to Findlay hospital Saturday morning, returning home Monday morning. Both children show improvement as Mrs Stansbery and Mr Stansbery share care with assistance from Mrs Ivan Green, mother of Mrs Stansbery.

Investigation of Veterans Housing Probe Proposed in Ohio

A six member senate house commission was created by resolution to probe veterans housing in Ohio. Representative F K Casse and Representative L C Washburn led the move prompted by criticisms of housing activities by state and subdivisions. A $5000 appropriation was provided.

Truck Train Crash Injures 2 Sunday

Lester Vernon, 42, of Cincinnati, owner of Great Northern Nursery, was seriously injured when his eastbound truck was struck by New York Central train No. 7 at an unguarded E Findlay street crossing. Passenger William Mincy was also injured. fire department fought a small blaze as the train delayed about 20 minutes.

Cassel moves to turn Indian Mill into state memorial

Carey representative F K Cassel has introduced a bill to have the Ohio archeological and historical society accept the Indian Mill near Upper Sandusky and dam land from Ward W Walton. The plan would convert the site into a state memorial called Indian Mill and set aside 50000 for improvements, with a companion senate bill by Senator D A Liggett.

John Schwarz professor emeritus of history at Bowling Green State University will address Carey Kiwanis Club members at their Monday evening meeting. Schwarz reached compulsory retirement age last summer after 25 years on the Bowling Green faculty.

Methodist School To Present Film For All People

The Methodist School will show a 30 minute sound film titled For All People on February 13 at 9 30 a m. It follows a young minister coping with prejudice in a multiracial city and shows local solutions to race hatred and juvenile delinquency. The Rev Wade H Koons pastor of Christ Lutheran Church will serve as Director of Evangelism in Virginia for the remainder of February as part of a nationwide Lutheran council effort 1949-50. Pfc Stanley Van Buren Transfers to Fort Belvoir

PFC Stanley Van Buren has been stationed at Fort Belvoir Virginia since January 4 joining the medical laboratory unit. He completed 17 weeks of recruit training at Fort Myer and earned expert rifleman honors among 108 recruits. He received private rank after December training and a two week furlough in Carey. He witnessed President Truman's inaugural parade.

William Tong of west of Carey returned to work as a Windsor evaporated milk truck driver Tuesday morning after a two week illness with pneumonia. Carey Junior High in Clyde Tournament Action

The Blue Devils beat Clyde 44 to 23 in the quarter finals after a 30-26 overtime win at Clyde last week. They advance to semi finals versus Wharton then potential finals Saturday night. Carey also travels to Richwood Friday for a rematch with the Tigers and will close pre tournament play at Marion next Tuesday against St. Mary's.
