St Wendelin Mohawks edged Carey 28 to 18 in a hard fought game. Carey led early but fell behind as the Mohawks hit long shots and tightened defense. linemates Jesko, Smiley, Wentling, Myers, Messmer, Patterson helped fuel the rally and earned praise for effort.
The upcoming Friday game at home pits Carey against Upper Sandusky in a key showdown. Carey seeks revenge after a close previous defeat as the season's final home date approaches.
The season ends with a game at Norwalk St. Paul on February 17. The Class B Sectional Tournament returns to Carey on March 3 with sixteen teams entered.
Grades of 90 percent or above were earned by eight students seated in the front row of seventh grade English led by Margaret Bachman with 98. Others in order are Elaine Johnson Jack Mitchell Anna Keckler Ruth Brown Betty Bowman LaVerne Ellis and Vesta McDaniel. In section D Eunice Tyndall 100 Gladys Wickham Donald Wenner Rosella Nye Arlene Perkins Dorothy Swarts Maxine Ritter Margaret Ellen Zeis and Alva Ritter also scored 90 or above. Fourth grade West pupils with 100 percent in spelling dictation are Florence Borer John Byers Dana Faires Ardine Gottfried Betty Lee Haines Corina Holida Eleanor McChesney Donna Mae Pahl Frances Peirce and Opal Tong. In Grade 6 room 20 Gottfried Stoll Clayton Shull Doren Kennerley Robert Hayman Paul Burson and Mauvelyn Hendricks have not been absent or tardy for 5 months. one more class member joined the tardy count on Wednesday.
Nachbar Bros holds a second community sale this Saturday afternoon at their barn on S Vance street. Buyers and sellers may bring items to be auctioned by Henry Orians the auctioneer. Sales occur every two weeks.

Local photographer W E Montagne has produced copies of Simonis Grocery images. The prints travel to editors in Paris and Parisbased Le Detail Moderne. A January letter to C C Simonis thanks him for photos and notes a $5 draft and future copies.
A county railroad employes meeting drew about 125 attendees Monday evening in the courthouse assembly room. Rev. A C G Rainsberger of Carey praised railroads for national development and urged they must continue to build and maintain lines at their own expense amid competition from trucks and buses using highways. The Salem High School senior class presents Bashful Mr. Bobbs in the auditorium on February 15 and 16. Cast includes Foster Roszman Arletls Swartz Gerald Gottfried Charles Shumaker Ardella Koehler Helen Berg Bertha Moser Garnetta Kinley Virginia Snyder Marie Wolfe and Justine Orians. Home talent music features between acts with vocal quartet and instrumental numbers.
Four direct mail pieces from the same concern were found in the writer's box at the post office. One recipient is deceased for over six years and two others have not lived in Carey since childhood, illustrating the limited reliability of mailing lists.
Mrs. A C Rainsberger left the Home and Hospital Findlay Sunday morning for her home on Findlay street. She is recovering well from an emergency appendectomy performed two weeks ago.
The Vanlue Farmers Institute will be held Friday and Saturday February 24-25 with Milton Jacobs as president and O E Hall as secretary. C R Titlow of Osborn, who spoke at the local institute this week, will be on the program.
Some 89 men visited Mayor S. H. Krebs on a Saturday evening to register on the unemployed list. Registration began before the official 7:00 pm hour as a crowd gathered early. Men are recorded with family size and marital status to assign work days in rotating blocks. Those with six or more children receive six days of work, others three days. Weather permitting, street work will be provided. men with any available tasks are asked to report to Vance Street or the mayor’s business office.

The Wyandot Livestock Association plans its annual meeting in Carey this year with details on program and venue to follow. The gathering will take place Saturday afternoon February 18, featuring speaker B. B. Brumley, president of the Producers Co operative Commission Association in Cleveland and director of the National Order Buying Company.
The Porcelain Products plant works day and night to fill an order of six carloads of toothbrush holders for the Listerine company.
Twenty poultry producers met Friday evening at the farmers’ cream station to discuss cooperative marketing for eggs in Ohio and West Virginia. State Farm Bureau representatives outlined plans requiring licensed candling and grading. If adopted, eggs would be shipped from Carey via Tiffin to Eastern markets. cost is the local hurdle.
Miss Iya Helms and Miss Mabel Bame will host the C I C class meeting at Miss Bame's home on West Findlay Street Friday evening. All members urged to attend.
Carey Kiwanis heard C R Titlow, farmers' institute speaker, discuss the present hard times and the need for courageous, tireless action. He traced the depression's beginnings, contrasted it with past crises, and urged plans to stimulate dollar flow locally. Two guests attended and preparations for next week were announced.
The Queen Esther class of Christ Lutheran Sunday school will entertain with a display of handmade quilts. The exhibit runs next Wednesday from 2 to 5 PM at the parish house. A silver offering will be received and community members are welcome to attend.
The local W. C. T. U. will hold its regular Friday afternoon gathering at 2:00 o'clock. The meeting takes place at Mrs. W. G. Bradley's residence on East Findlay Street.
The first session of the farmers institute convened at 1:30 PM Monday under Mark Karr. Rev Fr Paul Vollrath offered the invocation at Our Lady of Consolation church while Ralph Brow directed the program featuring assorted farm performers and pianists.
The speaker notes that the Careys Farmers Institute drew an average attendance of 355. He recalls that early state aided institutes attracted large crowds and warns that next year communities must support independent institutes by funding and participation.
Noted speakers C. R. Titlow and Mrs. L. S. Foght headlined a Farmers Institute with a line of musicians including Hubert Yost and Genevieve Dow. Titlow discussed farm poultry and costed two farmers’ records while Foght spoke on friendships and reading. The event included a high school glee club performance and closed with committees announced for the next session.
Funeral services for Mrs. E. C. Harshberger of West Findlay street were held Thursday afternoon at the local Methodist church. Rev. A. C. Raizsberger officiated with Rev. Paul R. Clouser assisting. Interment followed at Spring Grove cemetery. Many relatives attended from Findlay Upper Sandusky Toledo Bucyrus and nearby towns.
The Harshberger family expresses gratitude for cards letters and flowers given during the illness of their wife and mother. James H Needs longtime local resident died Tuesday at 5:00 AM at his home northeast of Carey after several years of illness. Funeral services are set for Thursday at 1:00 PM at the Needs home then 2:00 PM at MacCutchenville Reformed Church with Rev. B H Paulin officiating. Burial will be Zion cemetery. He was 73 years old, born January 21 1860 in Crane Township Wyandot County. He married Margaret Ann Ekleberry in 1885. she preceded him in death. Surviving are son Avery C Needs of Carey and wife Ida May Haines, plus siblings and others. Funeral arrangements reflect local Benton township ties and area churches.
In 1932 Carey received 4010 from gasoline tax and 2290.42 from automobile tax totaling 6300.42 for street repairs. about 8000 was on hand. The village spent 3012.17 on labor 2978.73 on material 1131.17 on hauling and 275.10 on miscellaneous items totaling 7397.17, reducing the fund by over 1000. Plans aim to use most of this money on street work for the unemployed.
Friday evening the W B A lodge opens at 7 30 with a short meeting followed by a penny beano hosted by Mrs H L Pahl whose team leads the attendance contest. Public invited.
The Rebekah lodge will hold its regular meeting on Tuesday evening outlining routine lodge business and activities for members.
