Christmas Program Aids Hi Y Students at School
A Hi Y Christmas program led by Mr Mulholland and choir director Mr Parillt was staged Sunday with James Calmes as Scrooge and William Howard giving the welcome. Rev Wade H Koons spoke and the Dickens play A Christmas Carol was performed. The assembly ended with Joy to the World as teachers and students recover from colds. School closes Thursday at 4 for Christmas vacation and resumes next Tuesday at 9 with May 14 commencement moved up a week to help wartime work.

Charles Spitler, former Carey resident and Shadyside high school teacher, resigned to teach at Tiffin University. An alumnus of the university’s commercial normal course, he holds an M A from Ohio State. He and his wife and son Jack will move to Tiffin soon. Spitler is the son of R J Spitler of near New Riegel and recently received an honorable discharge from the U S Army for a physical disability.

Two Alarms Of Fire In Galt Hotel And Lakeland Grounds
The Carey fire department responded first to a smoldering closet fire at the Galt Hotel around 1 45 AM blamed on a cigarette dropped in laundry. Later at 3 00 PM firefighters were sent to a grass fire at Lakeland grounds in southwest town.
