Solemn High Mass at Shrine Church on Christmas Eve

Very Reverend Paul Vollrath will celebrate a Solemn High Mass at midnight in the Shrine Church of Our Lady of Consolation. Fr. Leonard Wren and Fr. Cyprian Terwoord will be Deacon and Subdeacon, with Fr. Joseph Herp as Master of Ceremonies. Parish altar boys, choir led by Ralph Brown, and Miss Jessie Roll at organ will participate. Other Christmas Day masses are at 8 and 10 a.m.

W T U Meeting at Gilliland Home Deliberates Temperance and Missions

The W T U met Friday afternoon at Miss Sue Gilliland and Miss Della Gilliland’s home. Mrs J J McCabe led devotionals, quoting II Corinthians 3 9 15. Mrs Ina Morton prayed. The group discussed the year’s local union work while Little Lee Tinsler sang carols and Mrs Marion Tinsler read a paper on Temperance and Missions.

Old Time Revival at Forest Church of God

An old time revival begins Sunday evening at the Church of God in Forest and runs for one week. Services start at 7:30 each evening including Monday and Saturday. Evangelist S. M. Oyler of Marton will preach with healing promised for body and soul. Pastors C B Wise and wife invite all.

Ranger to undergo eye removal operation at Mercy Hospital

Ranger entered Mercy hospital in Tiffin on Tuesday and will have surgery Wednesday for the removal of his left eye injured when a pear fell from a tree and broke his glasses lens while he gathered fruit last fall.

A New Years dance for Masons Eastern Star members and families is set for Friday evening December 31 1937 at the Masonic temple with refreshments provided by committee 50-51.

Restaurant to Close Sunday After Christmas Day Hours

Harshberger's restaurant will open on Christmas Day but will be closed on Sunday December 26.

Christmas Service at Christ Lutheran Church

At 6 a.m. Saturday the annual Christmas Service will be held at Christ Lutheran Church to mark the Nativity. Matins will be sung by the senior vested choir led by Miss Elsie Howard with a short Richter cantata. Rev. Paul R. Clouser will deliver the Christmas message. The service has drawn strong attendance for 12 years.

Santa visits Carey in crowded Strand theatre event

About 1200 children attended the Saturday Santa program at the Strand theatre. Carey merchants sponsored the free shows and distributed 400 pounds of candy and gifts to all attendees, continuing a yearly community tradition of sharing holiday cheer.

Christmas Gift Offering Planned by Local Methodist Church

On December 26 during morning worship the church will take a Christmas Gift offering. The funds will be split among repairing and relettering the bulletin board, obtaining church bulletins, and benevolence. Last year the collection exceeded $100. Recently the White Gift Offering was given via Sunday school to the Children's Home and the Home for the Aged.

The Carey F F A chapter met in the agriculture room on Monday at 2 o clock and formed plans for the annual Parent and Son Banquet on January 17. An entertainment committee was appointed with Henry Brown Louis Orians and Harold Reinhart named.

Carey Board Names Eugene Mullholand Principal of High School

Eugene Mullholand of Adrian was appointed high school principal by the Carey board of education to replace W. S. Huffman who becomes superintendent. Mullholand has led Cadiz High School for 11 years, resigning last spring to live with his ill parents. He previously taught at Delphos, Bowling Green, and Delaware High Schools. He holds a bachelor’s from Heidelberg and a master’s from Wittenberg with 26 weeks of graduate work at Ohio State University.

Memorial Evangelical church hosts Christmas program

The Sunday school presented a sequence of songs and readings led by Rev Roy B Leedy with titles like A Shepherd Lad and Keeping Christmas. The evening service featured the choir O Come All Ye Faithful and a nativity story, ending with a Christmas candle display and a large congregation. An offering benefited the Evangelical orphanage at Flat Rock.

Christmas Program At Methodist Church Given Last Sunday

The Sunday worship featured an organ prelude by Miss Jane Criger and a Christmas program in the morning with the Junior Choir, male and female vocal solos, a sermon titled The Most Precious Gift, and a trumpet introduction by C. C Simonis. In the evening Sunday school children presented a second program with choirs, solos, recitations, and piano pieces by Eleanor McChesney, Joyce Snyder, Patsy Laird, and others.

Seagrave Fire Truck Delivered and Fireman Appointed

A Seagrave fire truck with 8 cylinder twin ignition motor was delivered to village officials. The truck pumps 600 gpm at 2400 rpm and 900 gpm at 3200 rpm. The village council also created a full time fireman position at 90 dollars per month and appointed Dave Orians for day shifts with night call duties. Twelve volunteers may be paid for out of town fires, with three needed for outside calls.

Cordelier Magazine Planned by Our Lady of Consolation

The Literary academy of Our Lady of Consolation seminary Carey will publish a bi annual magazine The Cordelier featuring papers from weekly meetings. Editorial staff includes Friars Matej Peck Bayer Weishaar Gott brath Emerine Zimmerman Bartman and others. First issue honors Rev Basil Heiser and Rev Benedict Rubeck now at the Institute of Mediaeval Studies Toronto Canada.

New Manager at Galt Restaurant

S Stumpp of Fostoria has taken over management of the Galt restaurant after leasing it. He is Harold Stumpp's brother and has years of restaurant experience including the Dyer Chop House in Toledo and Mumma's in Fostoria. He and his wife will move to Carey when they find an apartment.
