Ida Deidrick marked her 100th birthday with a day of visitors led by her Vanlue EUB Church pastor Rev Isaac Johnston. She has been the church’s eldest and longtime member, remaining active in church life and reading her Bible while receiving 52 callers, 152 birthday cards and 84 Christmas greetings by Wednesday. gifts included plants and flowers with a card from President Eisenhower. Her children joined for meals and photos, as neighbors sang carols Monday night. Deidrick, a longtime Carey Times subscriber, reflects on modern conveniences with concern yet gratitude.

The B P O Elks Lodge No 83 Upper Sandusky sponsors a Kiddie Day in Carey and Upper Sandusky with free movies. Carey Theater shows at 11 a.m. Santa passes candy in the lobby after the film. A village council meeting covered routine matters. Seven applications for a police vacancy were reviewed and candidates will be presented to the council with Chief Pieracini for approval. Two men plead guilty in Upper Sandusky on disturbing the peace
Calvin C. Platt of Upper Sandusky and Linus L. Krom of Carey pled guilty in Upper Sandusky Municipal Court to disturbing the peace. Each man was fined 35 dollars plus costs with 15 dollars of the fine suspended to reimburse Harry Miller for restaurant damage. Assault charges against the defendants were dismissed after the complainant failed to appear. Lloyd Holaday forfeited a 50 dollar appearance bond. Upper Sandusky police made the arrests.

Alden J Smith, factory manager for Porcelain Products Company, resigns to lead the Refractories Division of Shenango China Inc in New Castle Pennsylvania. He will start January 16 after ending his Porcelain duties on January 1 196. Smith joined Porcelain in 1946 as a ceramic engineer and rose to factory manager. He and his wife Lorene plan to move to New Castle with daughters Cynthia and Cecelia and sell their Crawford home. He is a Mason and past master of Lodge 420, former Carey Jaycees member, president of Carey Library Board, and council member at Christ Lutheran Church. He served as a first lieutenant in the Army Air Force in World War II. Mrs Smith teaches part time in Carey and is active in 4 H and local education and church work.

County Officials To Receive Pay Hikes in 1961
Ohio county officials will get pay raises from 200 to 1400 dollars annually under a 1959 state act. Composer to Spend Christmas in Carey
Dr Rob Roy Peery nationally known composer and music editor and Mrs Peery of Dayton will spend Christmas at the Lutheran parsonage in Carey with his brother and sister in law. It will be their first visit in over three years. Peery has largely recovered from an 18 month illness and resumed composing and music editing after a year absent from work. His music is widely used in Ohio and by the Christ Lutheran Church choir in Carey. He is on the staff of the Lorenz Company of Dayton. For 19 years he was music critic for Theo Presser Music Company and music editor of The Etude magazine.
