Children of Carey invited to Elks party at New Carey theatre

The Carey community is invited to an Elks sponsored party at the New Carey theatre on Tuesday morning December 24 at 10 o’clock. A free moving picture program will be shown for Carey children and the public, followed by a Santa Claus appearance in the theatre lobby. The event is courtesy of theatre owner Leo T. Jones.

Christmas Pageant and Eve Candlelight at Lutheran Church

The Lutheran Church plans a Sunday school Christmas pageant next Sunday directed by Mrs M D Shafer and Mrs H B Turnbell with all departments participating. On December 24 at 11:30 pm the annual Christmas Eve Candlelight Service features senior and junior choirs under Elsie Howard and Mrs M D Shafer, with Rev Wade H Koons delivering a sermon The Scene at Bethlehem. A Service of Lights will display a cross of lighted candles as six acolytes in white assist. All are invited to worship.

Billy Myers Struck by Automobile Near Church

Nine year old Billy Myers son of Mr and Mrs Russell Myers of West South street was struck by a car driven by Mrs Gordon Dasher on Patterson street near the Methodist church. He suffered cuts and bruises to head and face and was treated locally then taken to Findlay hospital for overnight observation. Dr C E Ford pastor accompanied him to the hospital. He had attended the church Weekday Bible school and authorities say he darted from between parked cars into the path of the vehicle.

Carey Stores to Stay Open Evening for Christmas Rush

Carey mercantile stores will remain open each evening through Christmas to serve late shoppers. Some stores plan after noon hours this Thursday, and owners report groceries will stay open Monday and Tuesday evenings next week.

Boys Entertained by Men’s Brotherhood at Church Event

The Methodist Sunday school boys and men were entertained in the church basement Tuesday night by the Men’s Brotherhood. A motion picture was shown and snacks including wieners potato chips soft drinks and candy bars were served.

Gifts to Lutheran Church Highlight Advent Dedication

The Third Sunday in Advent 1946 marked gifts to the Lutheran Church Youth and music ministry. Deagan Cathedral Chimes valued by George W Snyder were dedicated by the church council with granddaughter Joyce Snyder performing. The Mary and Martha class donated 27 Robes for the junior choir. Plans include more chancel furniture to complete liturgical appointments.

Miami Couple’s Holiday Visit Spans Three States

Mr and Mrs A R Kokenge of Miami Florida flew to Cleveland arriving December 7 and were met by Mr and Mrs Ross Patterson of Medina They stayed at the Patterson home and with Dr and Mrs C L Summer of Canton They later drove to Carsey in a new automobile and visited Mrs Lee Ogg and Mr and Mrs David Ogg Then they spent Thursday night with Kokenge’s mother and brother in Avilla Indiana before returning home and hoping to reach Miami by Sunday evening.

Lanning Motor Delivers Cars to Carey and James W Vaughn

Lanning Motor Sales delivered a two door Ford deluxe to the village of Carey to serve as a police car. It also supplied a sedan coupe to James W Vaughn a World War II amputee who lost his left leg in action. The government purchased the car and presented it to him. Special equipment enabling safe operation was installed in the Lanning garage.

Twins News: Babies Born to Carey and Wharton Parents

An 8-pound son arrived Tuesday at 8:20 am in Findlay hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Ben Hosler of Findlay. Mrs. Hosler is Cora Ellen Schira, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Schira of Carey. A 70-pound daughter was born last Thursday in a Kenton hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rife of Wharton. Mrs. Rife is Helen Buckland, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Graham Buckland of Carey.

Mr and Mrs Clarence Blehert returned home after a 43 week motor trip to Florida visiting Mississippi and Tennessee. Mr and Mrs A R Kokenge of Miami Florida and Mrs Lee Ogg of Carey were guests Wednesday evening of Mr and Mrs David Ogg and daughters Frances and Virginia south of Carey. Mrs Eugene Swerlein of Upper Sandusky and Mrs Lawrence Smith of Carey spent the weekend in Detroit with Mr and Mrs D P Wisler. They attended the Sonja Henie Ice Revue of 194?. Joan Cole was an overnight guest Saturday of her voice teacher Mrs Blanche MacIntosh of Findlay. Sunday morning Joan was a guest soloist at the Evangelical United Brethren church in Findlay. She sang That Dwelleth by MacDermott. Miss Gloria Ziebarth a Wheaton College student and Charles Ziebarth a MIT student will spend Christmas with their parents Mr and Mrs J E Ziebarth.

The Woman's Society of Christian Service held its final 1946 meeting at the First Methodist Church Parlors. New 1947 officers were installed including Forrest Baker as social activities secretary and S R Bame as corresponding secretary.
