Last Sunday the price paid by Carey grocers fell from 66 cents to 60 cents a dozen. Upper Sandusky Sycamore and Bucyrus papers report 60 cents for two weeks. Local dealers still retail eggs at 74 cents a dozen. reason for the six cent gap remains unclear.
Dallas Humbert reports a letter from his son William serving with the artillery in France. Written November 22 the Father’s letter notes all men were asked to write to their fathers to observe Mothers Day last summer. Willie is in fine condition and has come through the fighting unhurt.
Lieut. S R Bame traveled through Upper Sandusky on Saturday with a special train carrying wounded and sick soldiers to Iowa. He continued east on Monday but his family could not greet him as the train did not stop.
Spoon of Wharton shares a granddaughter's vivid account of Manila Rangoon and Namtu travels with George. scenes include a Spanish era cemetery, jostling rickshaws, and a growing home in Namtu. Mrs Addison Southward of Wharton died at her home Tuesday morning from influenza. Born in 1884 in Hancock county, she was the daughter of George Searfoss. Survived by her husband five children including a baby born last Friday four sisters Mrs Geogre McDaniel Forest Mrs Minnie Gault near this city Mrs Gertrude Southward Wharton and Mrs Fanny Owens Forest.
Mr and Mrs H E Wyatt and children attended the funeral of Frank Spooner in Cleveland last week. Spooner, an influenza victim, had been in training with engineers at Fort Benjamin Harrison.
Patrons of the Shuman school west of town held their annual dinner last Tuesday to raise funds for a work bench. The money will buy tools to equip the new work area.
The Red Cross announces 82 Christmas cartons sent to soldiers overseas and a sale of handmade articles from the last bazaar at Ash and Houk's hardware next Saturday Monday and Tuesday. Rewrapped parcel post packages will be sold along with home made candies. A quilted vest remains at the Red Cross rooms for pickup.
John C. Snyder born May 7 1850 in Crawford township Wyandot county Ohio died December 10 1918 at age 68 7 3. He lived in Wyandot county most of his life moved briefly to Peru Indiana then returned to Big Spring township Seneca county where he remained until death. Survived by one brother Levi Snyder Carey one sister Catherine Snyder Big Spring township and many relatives. Funeral by Rev H W Thomas at Dunkard church with pallbearers GC E Rangeler E T Criger Howard McKee Gust Fosty Sherman McKee and H E McKee. Burial in Spring Grove cemetery.

Recent discharge notices list Ed Mc Laughlin of Fort Sam Houston Texas Dan McLaughlin and Charles Boyce among others along with Howard Snyder Urban Theis from Camp Sherman George Snyder and Willard Stief from Ohio State Students Training School Ralph Livingston back from Great Lakes training and now assisting a college professor.
Mrs George Bayne resigned from the primary department as her husband was released from training at Norfolk Naval Station. They will move to Portsmouth Virginia where Mr Bayne will take a civil engineer position. Mrs Clarence Thome will teach in Mrs Bayne's place.
Word was received that Le mar Walton of Sycamore was wounded by a gas shell October 29 in France. He is doing well at a hospital in Bordeaux. It was also announced that William Rucker of Sycamore had been wounded.
Dr and Mrs T A Spitler plan to return to Carey by the holidays with Dr Spitler resuming his medical practice. They have spent five months at Fort Ogelthorpe Georgia where he held a lieutenant's medical corps commission and performed laboratory work.
