Seniors at Carey High took the Ohio State University psychological test last week to gauge aptitude and provide vocational guidance. The top ten scores include Joan Sargeant 126 and James Patterson 108 with several in the 70s and 80s.
The G A A held a Christmas party with salads hot dishes sandwiches and desserts. The cafeteria was festively decorated and a program followed including vocal solos poems piano and tap numbers and carol singing.
The KF WN A Party gathered in the home economics room for a program of music and poems led by Phyllis Vaughn Carol Walter Opal Higgins and Norma Helms. Santa appeared unseen and distributed gifts while the group enjoyed treats and gift wrapping demonstration by Phyllis Vaughn and Nancy Bauer.
Miss Burber and Dortha Wilson head the selection of intermural basketball teams. Teams bear car names with matching descriptors: Powerful Packards, Dashing Nashes, Pacing Pontiacs, Plugging Plymouths, Lovable Lincolns, Ferocious Fords, Charging Chevrolets, Blazing Buicks and Hotshot Hudsons.
Plans outline a Christmas program with the Speech Class presenting plays the Hi Y will lead devotions the glee club singing several numbers the Spanish club performing two Spanish pieces and describing Christmas customs in Spanish speaking countries the Latin IT club also participating. Other items are being arranged with the aim of an impressive program.
In a thriller all the way, Upner Sandusky defeated the Blue Devils 60-57. Stansbery and M Henry led with 15 and 21 points. Lyle Orians sat out with four fouls, while Skip Williams and Jacoby helped rally late with field goals and free throws.
In a close Friday game Carey defeated Kenton 62 to 61 on the local floor. Jake Jacoby sparked Carey with a late drive and 21 points by Orians and Mead highlighted the 21 point performances for Kenton. Several players stood out including Dick Dennison and Skip Williams as Carey plans to face the Alumni on December 26.
The American Legion and Auxiliary hold their annual Christmas gathering on Thursday evening December 18. A potluck supper at 6 30 will precede a 50 cent gift exchange. Legion members and spouses and Auxiliary members and their husbands are invited. Meat and coffee provided. Bring a covered dish and table service. Publicity Chair Harry Rook. 49-50
Memorial E U B Church members purchased a Mason-Hamlin grand piano to accompany the organ during services in the auditorium. The instrument arrived last Thursday and was used for the first time this past Sunday.

The second annual Baby Derby will be held in Carey. The first baby born on or after January 1 1953 will win gifts from local merchants, with eligibility limited to Carey residents or those on rural routes. Birth must be verified by a physician and a notice sent to George Jaster, president of the Carey Businessmen's Association.
The annual Christmas Eve service at Christ Lutheran Church is set for next Wednesday at 11:00 PM. Organist Elsie Howard will lead a half hour of carols before the service, with a decorated church and a large manger scene. The Junior and Senior choirs directed by Shirley Keller and Harold Greenwald will perform, plus a solo by Eilean Mott. The program includes many carols and Silent Night by candlelight. Pastor Root will preach on Bethlehem and Beyond with the theme How Do We Get to Bethlehem. All are invited.
A3C Boyce, who served in Korea, arrived last Thursday aboard the J C Breckinridge in San Francisco. He flew to Chicago then bused to Toledo where his parents Charley and Mrs. Boyce and sister Mrs. Harold Landoll met him Monday. He is on a 41 day furlough and reports to Turner AFB Georgia January 23.
Palm Leaf Rebekah lodge No. 656 will meet Tuesday December 23 at 8 pm in the IOOF hall. A Christmas party follows with potluck and a 50 cent gift exchange. All Rebekahs and families invited. committee listed.
At the Carey businessmen association meeting it was decided stores in Carey will stay open every evening until Christmas starting Wednesday December 17. Stores will also be open all day and Thursday evening December 18 to extend shopping hours for the public.
Members of the Woman's Benefit Association will meet Friday evening at 6 p m in the home of Mrs Richard Hunter for a Christmas party and potluck Adults only.
George Messmer of 358 S Vance street was admitted to Blanchard Valley hospital after a Monday evening incident and underwent major surgery at 5 30 p m on Tuesday.
Clarence A Hoept Jr 20 of Carey was killed when his Snyder Lumber Co truck collided with New York Central No 303 at Route 509 crossing. Coroner ruled accidental death. he died instantly from a fractured skull and neck injuries. Survived by parents two sisters and two brothers and grandparents. He was a Carey High School graduate and Navy Reservist.
The P. R. S. club invites members and husbands to a 6:30 p m potluck and Christmas party on Saturday December 20 at the home of Mr and Mrs Paul Smith. Rolls and coffee provided and a 56 cent gift exchange. Mystery sisters names revealed.

Carey high school hosts a 75 member band in an annual Christmas concert in the high school auditorium Friday evening December 19 at 8 o'clock. The program features seasonal favorites including Silent Night and a Messiah selection plus marches overtures and lighter numbers with soloists Marlene Lee Shirley Keller and others. A clarinet quartet performs All the Things You Are. Public invited with no admission charge.
Marilyn Hartman eight year old daughter of Superintendent and Mrs G A Hartman was in Blanchard Valley hospital last week for appendicitis examination. She stayed bedfast until Friday and returned to school Monday. Her three year old brother Gary is improving from glandular fever and able to be up part of the time.
Robert W. Creeger of Creeger Implement Co joined 191 Ohio John Deere dealers at field demonstrations in Columbia South Carolina. The new line of small tractors and attachments was introduced over Friday and Saturday as dealers traveled by special train from Columbus and returned Sunday afternoon.

Baked goods and gift items will be on sale Saturday at Dible’s plumbing shop to raise funds for Boy Scout Troop 51. The sale is sponsored by Our Lady of Consolation Church and patrons are urged to attend.

Children from all parts of the county are invited to free screenings Saturday in Carey and Upper Sandusky with Santa on hand. The Carey show opens at 10 am with a 14 hour movie program, then Lantz will greet kids in the lobby. younger children may enter the lobby at 11. No adults admitted to the movie programs.
At the Monday meeting the Carey village council exempted shoppers from meter charges December 17 through December 24. Citizens and employees were asked to park outside the meter area to keep spaces open for shoppers. The council also reviewed the 1953 budget of 389425 with funds showing improvement aside from three deficits. A new police car, water works repairs, and meter replacements were noted. The alley behind the municipal building will be closed to trucks due to damage to the Lawn property. Safety signals for school areas were referred to the police chief for action.
The annual Christmas program by the Memorial E A B Church Sunday school children will be held Sunday at 7 30 PM. The event features carols and recitations with an offering for Flat Rock Children's Home. Public invited. participant homes to be published next week.
Anthony Troiano of New Riegel had an appendectomy Friday morning at Mercy Hospital in Tiffin. He is recovering at his sister Mrs. Dominic Berardinelli’s home.
