Missionary Society Meets at Lutheran Church
The Woman's Home and Foreign Missionary Society held its regular monthly meeting in the church Sunday school room last Wednesday. Lesson topic was With Mistaken Faith led by Mrs. V A Smith, an article Brothers in Christ read by Mrs. E B Kurtz, and the Thank Offering secretary reported sixty five dollars for the past year. The group voted a ten dollar Christmas offering to a mission church in San Bernardino California.

Death of John Cole at 69 in Amanda Township
John Cole aged sixty nine died after a brief illness from pneumonia at his daughter Mrs. W Eatherton’s home near Mt Blanchard Wyandot Co. He was a longtime U B church member and respected merchant. Survived by son Harry and daughter. wife preceded him three years ago. Funeral at Swamp church Sunday at 10.00.

Fifteen Years for Murder in Court Ruling
On Friday Judge Broderick pronounced sentence of fifteen years in the penitentiary for the murder of Frank McCormick by James F. Goodlove. Judge Sheets of Columbus offered sixteen reasons for granting a new trial. Dr. VU C. Stutz testified Goodlove faced paralysis and death from confinement, but the judge dismissed the claim, noting penitentiary life includes exercise.

City Council Hears Year End Sidewalk Concerns
The regular session notes payments to National Lime and Stone Co for sand and to Mabel Newhard and Robert Drake. The council voiced dissatisfaction with sidewalk progress and plans stricter rules next year. The board of public works report was filed, and the meeting adjourned to December 28, the last regular meeting of the year.

S. S. Smith displayed a medal at a Monday morning unveiling of the Fredericksburg monument. The medal honors Humphrey's Division for its 1862 December battle role. Smith served in the 131st Pennsylvania Infantry. Pennsylvania funded the state troops in the division.
