The P. R. 8 club will gather at Mrs. Forest Wenner's residence this Thursday afternoon for a club meeting and social visit.
Nearly 300 people attended the 85th anniversary service at Obrist Lutheran Church on Sunday morning. Rev Wade H Koons cited 85 years of church work and emphasized that the church serves all generations. Members with two years of membership were named, a new confirmation class announced, and Rev Dr F B Herbert present for the 50 year reunion.
Ira and Mrs McKinnon received a card from their son Richard Al McKinnon U S N interned at Philippine military prison camp No 3 The 56 word message asks about Howard and Bob and requests letters The card arrived on the exchange ship Ripsholm which reached New York last week.
Round and square dancing at the new S. Vance Street venue with a five piece Victory Boosters orchestra. Music starts at 9 PM and runs to midnight. War Stamp prices are five dollars with two and one dollar stamps for admission.
A correction notes that last week's Carey Times card of appreciation was incorrectly signed for Mrs. Frank Troiano. The card should have read Mrs. James Troiano, who recently returned from St Rita's hospital in Lima.
Mrs Gust Summit to entertain members of the Jennie Larmonth Missionary Society of Christ Lutheran Church Monday evening at her N Vance street home. Mrs W C Loughley will lead the lesson on the topic Glad Tidings.

A special Knights of Pythias meeting at Justus Lodge No. 393 is set for Tuesday evening to nominate and elect officers for the next term. Refreshments at 7 30 and a business session will follow. All members urged to attend.
The 1944 officers elected were Russell Phillips as Superintendent Wayne Powell as assistant superintendent Shirley Jacobs as secretary Arlene Robison as assistant secretary and Harry Bowman as treasurer. The results were announced Sunday at the Sunday school meeting.
The junior class presents Here Comes Charlie at the school auditorium Friday night with Charlie from the Ozarks arriving to stir events. Larry Eugene Jacoby acts as guardian while aunt Mrs Farnham Barbara Johnson and fiancée Vivian Anitta Johnson scheme to smooth Charlie’s path. Uncle Aleck Twiggs Donald Krebs joins as comic foil.
Lt. H Kirtland Straw, son of Mr and Mrs Lawrence H Straw of Carey and Cleveland, heads the personnel department at Whiting Field Milton Florida, the Navy aviation training center near Pensacola. The center trains thousands of naval pilots and was dedicated July 16 with high level officials present.
The Wesleyan Guild of the Methodist Sunday school plans its annual Christmas party Monday evening December 13 at 6 30 at Mrs. S R Bame's home on W Findlay Street. Hosts are Mrs C W Lanning Mrs Parl C Goff and Mrs Carl Dible. Each member should bring a tureen dish and table service plus a 25 cent gift for the exchange. A special Christmas program will be featured.
Mrs A E Coppler received a telegram saying her son Cpl Merle Coppler has arrived safely in the United States after two years with the U S Army in Puerto Rico. He plans to be in Carey for the Christmas holidays. Cpl Wheodord Jesko, stationed with Coppler, also arrived in the States and will be in Carey on a furlough soon.
Observance of National Service Day at Memorial Evangelical Church honored 40 percent of attendees standing as Rev. H. Allen led prayers. About 200 people attended recognizing 40 named service men including Maj. Luther J. Creighton Cpl. Frederick Crist Harlan F. Dible and many others who were honored or honorably discharged.
Ashford News highlights 2nd Lt. Doray Eileen Kirkwood Army Nurse as meritorious for work with a Surgical Hospital in North Africa. Her photo appeared in Toledo during So Proudly We Hail with praise from Marion H. Frost Toledo recruitment chair.
The first meeting of the adult farmers machinery repair short course is set for 8 pm Wednesday December 15 at Carey high school. It invites all Carey community farmers to attend the three month series with Ivan Schmidt as instructor and sessions on S Vance street after the initial meeting.
Ralph Sanner who ran a grocery in the Hoff block corner of Vance and South streets for 20 years announces closing out stock and quitting. Regulations and present conditions influenced his decision. He and his brother Ed ward Sanner came from Mc Comb to buy the Carey Grocery store once managed by the late SSB Beitler. Edward Sanner stayed only six months.
Donna Smith daughter of Mr and Mrs Robert Smith of BA Findlay street will sing four selections on WMRN Marion Sunday December 12 at 1230 pm Mrs C G Laird will play piano accompaniments The songs are part of the program Marion Entertains.
The Crummage Ladies will extend their rummage sale, begun Tuesday and Wednesday, into Saturday afternoon and evening, December 11, in the room formerly used by the Reynolds confectionery.
The notice lists men from Upper Sandusky and surrounding communities called for final examinations and transfers for induction. Several volunteers and conscientious objectors are noted, with destinations including Fort Hayes Columbus and Magsillon for re examination and type physicals.
The November issue of Stem to Stern highlighted Harvey A. Culler of Wiscoo aged 80, praised for his wartime defense work in Oregon. A soldier at an Alaska post sent a letter noting pride in his longevity and example, and mentioning Culler’s ties to Mrs. W. H. Houk and I. L. Culler of Carey.
Palm Leaf Rebekah lodge will meet Tuesday evening December 14 at 7 30. Second nominations and officer elections will occur. After the regular lodge a potluck Christmas party with a covered dish and a 265c gift exchange is planned. Dorothy Mitchell chairs the social committee.
A special meeting of the Tiffin Council Knights of Columbus is held in their club rooms at Tiffin this Thursday evening at 8 o'clock. P. J. Kirwin, general agent for western Ohio, will preside. All Carey Council members are invited.
