Nutritious School Cafeteria Serves 402 Pupils for Thanksgiving

The big Thanksgiving dinner fed 402 pupils with turkey and dressing while daily lunches draw over 290 eaters. Menus are planned by Miss Thelma Hack and costs total 25 cents per lunch. The program highlights healthier options and staff additions with federal support for equipment upgrades.

Convincing Words Highlighted At School Assembly

A Wednesday November 28 assembly in the high school auditorium featured Mr. George J. Geher speaking on Convincing Words. He urged better speech and gave examples while Mr. Leher performed impersonations of The Cremation of Sam McGee and The Ghost of Ham let and discussed his forty years in show business.

Carey Hi Y Club November Meeting Highlights Abstinence Talk

The Carey Hi Y Club met at the high school on Monday. Reverend John A. Root of Christ Lutheran Church delivered a talk titled Shall I Drink revealing the harms of alcohol. He cited automobile accidents and divorces tied to drinking and urged strong character to refuse social drinking. A concluding movie illustrated the consequences of drinks taken to be sociable.

Miss Patricia Laird Transferred to Munich Office

Miss Patricia L Laird currently serving in Europe transfers from the 7746 CIS in Stuttgart to Munich where she becomes secretary to the district commander of Office of Special Investigation United States Air Forces in Europe. The office is beside Starnbergsee near Munich in the Bavarian Alps. She is a daughter of Mr and Mrs C G Laird of 128 South Patterson Street.

Village approves transformer sale and permits at meeting

At a Monday village council meeting three transformers were approved for sale to Wing Electric Co. of Willoughby for 4575 dollars from three bids. Building permits were issued for a new garage at 319 Frederick Street and a locomotive house near Ogz Street. Residents warned permits are required for all construction including adding a porch. Police and sanitation notes list fines for several individuals and a warning about improper storm sewer connections since December 1946.

Prince of Peace Winners Named Across Wyandot Churches

Miss Shirley Eyestone representing St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Upper Sandusky won the Wyandot County Prince of Peace contest held at Memorial EUB Church with Rev. D. W. Whitenack in charge. Second place went to Miss Shirley Pickett of Wharton Methodist Church with several other participants from area churches and schools.

Discharged Marine Cpl Donald Bakies Returns Home

Cpl Donald Bakies son of Mr and Mrs Fred Bakies arrived home Saturday after discharge from the U S Marines. He had been recovering at Bethesda Naval Medical Center from wounds sustained June 24 in Korea including a skull fracture a broken neck and ruptured eardrums when his truck hit a land mine. He will later have surgery to place a protective plate over his head wound.

Santa Claus to Appear at Carey Theatre Dec 15

Santa Claus will appear at the Carey theatre on Saturday December 15 at 1 o'clock. The event is organized by Leo T. Jones owner of the theatre with cooperation from the Elks lodge of Upper Sandusky and the Carey Businessmen's Association. The program offers a free show and a free treat for children up to 8th grade, with candy oranges nuts and apples provided.

Seven Wyandot county young men left for Toledo for induction into the U S Army.
