G. C. Wagner, chairman, reports Carey exceeded its $66,009 quota with bonds totaling $78,374.25 sold by Wednesday morning. He asks solicitors to turn in pink slips at the post office or to him personally.
Clarence W Thornton S1/e was honorably discharged from the U S Navy on November 28 in Toledo after 18 months in the Pacific. He served on destroyers during landings at Singapore Morotai Leyte Luzon Sabang Martin and Hollandia and survived the Hollandia torpedoing of the destroyer Mustin. He earned American Theater Asiatic Pacific Philippine Liberation and Victory ribbons with six battle stars.
Palm Leaf Rebekah Lodge No. 656 meets in regular form Tuesday evening December 11 at the I O O F hall. Election of officers for next year will be held and a Christmas party will follow with a tureen supper and a 26 cent gift exchange. Members and families invited with social committee listed.
Missions committee of the Western Conference of the Synod of Ohio held an all day session at Christ Lutheran Church on Wednesday December 5. Members listed include Rev Karl Branner Rev Ewart Berger Rev Herbert Veler Rev W C Kantner Rev E E Snyder and Rev Wade H Koons who chairs. Guest speaker was Rev Charles Hackenberg president of the Toledo Lutheran Inner Missions Society.
A joint Christmas party and pot luck supper will be held Monday evening December 10 at 6 30 by the Jennie Larmonth and Women Missionary societies of Christ Lutheran Church. Committee on arrangements includes Mrs George Newhard Mrs J A Haines and Mrs I L Culler. The program theme is We Worship Together and Christmas carols from many lands will be sung under direction of Mrs Ross Johnson Mrs A J Ruehle and Mrs Edward Riester Sr.
The Wesleyan Guild of Carey Methodist Sunday school will meet Monday at 6 30 with Mrs. Thomas Beckwith on West North Street. The committee includes Mrs Beckwith chairwoman Mrs C W Lanning Mrs Robert Gardner and Mrs Arthur Stevens. A potluck supper will be served at 6 30 and a 25 cent Christmas exchange will be enjoyed. Attendees are asked to bring their own table service.
Mr and Mrs Ralph Kurtz bought the Charles Jacobs residence on E Findlay Street and plan to move after January 1 They currently reside on W Findlay Street near the A C and Y railroad owned by Mr and Mrs Arthur Stoll The Kurtzes intend to return to Arlington soon
The Past Chiefs of the Pythian Sisters meeting is postponed to Thursday afternoon December 20 at 3 o'clock.
Carey High totals 218 points in 1944 season as Johnny De Amicis and Don Wedge pace with 64 points each. Wedge racks 590 rushing yards on 81 carries, Hecks gains 536 on 63 tries, Donelson 7.4 per rush. Team goes 8 and 0, ties 5 game shutout streak, rebounding to basketball in 1945 opener against Upper Sandusky.
The Spayth Decorating Co plans a Saturday opening of a new retail paint and wallpaper store in Carey on B Findlay Street, formerly the Carey Implement Store. Incorporators Jesse Spayth, Brett Carrick Jr, and Alfred Carrick authorized to issue 250 no par shares. Melvin Kiess will manage the Carey store. The shop will stock paints from Sherwin Williams and Perry & Derrick, electrical appliances, Admiral refrigerators, GE toasters, irons, washing machines, and window fashions.
Department stores and hardware and variety stores in Carey will observe special hours before Christmas. Open all day Thursday December 20, close at 9 p m that evening. Open until 9 p m Friday, and until 11 p m Saturday. On Monday December 24, open until 10 p m.
Sgt Harry Shull, son of Mrs Agnes Shull, was honorably discharged at Camp Atterbury Indiana on November 27 after 41 months in service. He served 27 months in New Guinea the Philippines and Korea with the 286th Q M Refrigeration Mobile Co earning three battle stars. The unit also received a Presidential unit citation.
Mrs David Lasley, Most Excellent Chief, states a new state rule requires all 1946 dues be paid by December 34 1946 with a deadline of December 20 for remittance, noting this will be the last meeting of the year.
December 8 marks the ordination of Rev. Nicholas B. Roling and Rev. Francis Xavier P. Knopp of the Order of Friars Minor Conventual at the Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Cathedral Toledo. Bishop Karl J. Alter presides at 10:00 a.m. Roling offers his first Solemn Mass at St. Marys Elyria on December 9 with Rev. Monsignor Newton preaching. Archpriest Rev. Wenceslaus Hertvik assists, Deacon Rev. Angelus LaFleur officiates, and other church leaders including Rev. Hubert Kobunski and Very Rev. Basil Heiser participate in the service.
Wyandot county selective service records list Willis Marvin Putnam Jr. and others as inducted into the army, with names including Robert Shambaugh, Robert Motter, Harold Tetrick Jr., Gene Lawson, Jack Gigler, Robert Walberry, Don Beck, and Harold Taft among those enlisted or volunteering for service. Other enlistees include Richard Southward.
CPL Sylvester Myers son of Mr and Mrs William F Myers of north of Carey was discharged from the U S army November 28 at Indian Town Gap Pa. He served four years and three months in the European and Pacific theaters with the 103rd Infantry Division including 13 months in France Germany and Austria. He fought in Rhineland and Central Europe earning the ETO ribbon and two battle stars. He also served 19 months on the Society Islands and New Hebrides and took part in the North ern Solomons battle earning the Asiatic Pacific ribbon and a battle star.
J B Ziebarth bought a 42 foot lot on West Findlay Street from W R Kurtz heirs where the post office and Smiths shoe store occupied space. The price was 15000 dollars. He and Mrs Ziebarth also purchased a 42 foot lot on West North street adjoining their property from L E Straw. The Kurtz lot sale was handled by John Risner, real estate broker.
Biltmore Photographers will be at the Galt House on Friday December 7 from 1 pm to 8 pm. Four proofs will be shown for selection and all appointments and invitations will be honored during these hours.
Round and square dancing every Saturday from 9 to 12 at Eagles Hall. Music by the Victory Boosters with Walter Ball calling. Members invite families for a pleasant evening.
The Chapter to Meet Carey Chapter No 159 Royal Arch Masons will convene Friday at 7 30 PM at the Masonic Hall. Refreshments will be served.

The Mansfield degree team initiated 26 candidates at the Local Moose hall. Gov. W. J. Dennison notes local membership now exceeds 480. Next initiation will be January with the Sandusky team. Pal Night is December 13 with a coon feed and Santa visit on December 20. Family Night December 27 features New Riegel boys and family activities.
Carey Schools Band Mothers club hosts a rummage sale in the library basement on Saturday December 8 with doors opening at 9 00. The public is invited and contributors should bring items by Friday or call Mrs George Snyder to arrange pickup.
The second quarterly communion service of the conference year will be observed at Memorial Evangelical Church Sunday at 10 80am. Rev F A Firestone of Fremont district superintendent of the Western District will deliver the sermon and conduct the communion service.
The T R C club will meet this Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs Leo Beagle on East Findlay Street.
The Artistic Beauty Shop will be open for appointments on Monday December 10. Mrs Harry Shull presides over the shop and invites clients to book early.
Mrs. John F. Byers received a formal notice from Major General Edward F. Witsell confirming her husband Second Lieutenant John F. Byers was killed in action when a collision occurred over Bonn Germany on January 10 1945. Byers 21 previously co pilot of a B 17 Flying Fortress trained in Santa Ana Tucson and Marfa and serving with the 8th Air Force. He is survived by his wife his parents a sister Ardyth and grandparents.
Dr. Guy Morse Bingham of Washington DC, a business and social analyst, spent Monday with Carey High School's senior class. He discussed Life Studies after Graduation and led assemblies on happiness, success, salesmanship, and developing a good personality. He urged students that happiness is made, not bought, and requires effort to achieve and share with others.
Dale Tanner was honorably discharged from the U S Army on November 8 after 38 months of service. He spent 34 months in Africa Italy and France and fought in the Arno River Apennines and Po Valley campaigns as well as the invasion of Southern France. He served in an engineer battalion and earned the ETO ribbon the good conduct medal the Victory ribbon and four battle stars.
A statewide visitation campaign spreads through the Toledo district with Findlay First as Carey center. Dr. Robert Kennedy leads pastors across Findlay and surrounding churches in an effort to add one million members by 1946. A new church magazine, The New Life, debuts under Albert Day.
The Carey Kiwanis Club met at the Trubey restaurant with W T Davis of the Carey public schools as speaker. He described his four years service in the armed forces and gave a graphic account of his 40 day trip to Australia including conditions in Australia and New Guinea and attacks by Japanese air raiders.
The Dorcas Bible class will meet Friday at 8 oclock at Mrs Rose Diller s home on E Findlay street. Assistants are Mrs Henry Lortz and Mrs Bethelyn Hellopeter. All members should attend as officers will be elected and a 25 cent gift exchange will take place.
The Catholic Ladies of Columbia plan a Christmas dinner Monday evening December 17 at 7 at the Catholic hall. Attendees should contact committee members before December 15. A 25 cent Christmas exchange will be held.
Sgt Hansel Caudill Jr son of Mr and Mrs Hansel Caudill Sr has been honorably discharged from the Army Air Forces and returned home November 24 after 19.4 months in England with the 8th Air Force.
