G. C. Wagner, chairman, reports Carey exceeded its $66,009 quota with bonds totaling $78,374.25 sold by Wednesday morning. He asks solicitors to turn in pink slips at the post office or to him personally.

Clarence W Thorn-ton Navy Discharge Noted in Toledo

Clarence W Thornton S1/e was honorably discharged from the U S Navy on November 28 in Toledo after 18 months in the Pacific. He served on destroyers during landings at Singapore Morotai Leyte Luzon Sabang Martin and Hollandia and survived the Hollandia torpedoing of the destroyer Mustin. He earned American Theater Asiatic Pacific Philippine Liberation and Victory ribbons with six battle stars.

Wesleyan Guild to Meet Monday Evening

The Wesleyan Guild of Carey Methodist Sunday school will meet Monday at 6 30 with Mrs. Thomas Beckwith on West North Street. Spayth Decorating Co to Open Saturday in Carey

The Spayth Decorating Co plans a Saturday opening of a new retail paint and wallpaper store in Carey on B Findlay Street, formerly the Carey Implement Store. Incorporators Jesse Spayth, Brett Carrick Jr, and Alfred Carrick authorized to issue 250 no par shares. Melvin Kiess will manage the Carey store. The shop will stock paints from Sherwin Williams and Perry & Derrick, electrical appliances, Admiral refrigerators, GE toasters, irons, washing machines, and window fashions.

Sgt Harry Shull Receives Honorable Army Discharge

Sgt Harry Shull, son of Mrs Agnes Shull, was honorably discharged at Camp Atterbury Indiana on November 27 after 41 months in service. He served 27 months in New Guinea the Philippines and Korea with the 286th Q M Refrigeration Mobile Co earning three battle stars. The unit also received a Presidential unit citation.

Pythian Sisters Urge Dues Payment By December 20 1946

Mrs David Lasley, Most Excellent Chief, states a new state rule requires all 1946 dues be paid by December 34 1946 with a deadline of December 20 for remittance, noting this will be the last meeting of the year.

Two Franciscans To Be Ordained In Toledo Cathedral

December 8 marks the ordination of Rev. Nicholas B. Roling and Rev. Francis Xavier P. Knopp of the Order of Friars Minor Conventual at the Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Cathedral Toledo. Discharged CPL Sylvester Myers Ends Army Service

CPL Sylvester Myers son of Mr and Mrs William F Myers of north of Carey was discharged from the U S army November 28 at Indian Town Gap Pa. He served four years and three months in the European and Pacific theaters with the 103rd Infantry Division including 13 months in France Germany and Austria. He fought in Rhineland and Central Europe earning the ETO ribbon and two battle stars. He also served 19 months on the Society Islands and New Hebrides and took part in the North ern Solomons battle earning the Asiatic Pacific ribbon and a battle star.

Post Office Building Sold to J B Ziebarth

J B Ziebarth bought a 42 foot lot on West Findlay Street from W R Kurtz heirs where the post office and Smiths shoe store occupied space. The price was 15000 dollars. He and Mrs Ziebarth also purchased a 42 foot lot on West North street adjoining their property from L E Straw. The Kurtz lot sale was handled by John Risner, real estate broker.

Death letter confirms Lt John Byers killed in action over Bonn

Mrs. John F. Byers received a formal notice from Major General Edward F. Witsell confirming her husband Second Lieutenant John F. Byers was killed in action when a collision occurred over Bonn Germany on January 10 1945. Byers 21 previously co pilot of a B 17 Flying Fortress trained in Santa Ana Tucson and Marfa and serving with the 8th Air Force. He is survived by his wife his parents a sister Ardyth and grandparents.

Dale Tanner Receives Honorable Army Discharge

Dale Tanner was honorably discharged from the U S Army on November 8 after 38 months of service. He spent 34 months in Africa Italy and France and fought in the Arno River Apennines and Po Valley campaigns as well as the invasion of Southern France. He served in an engineer battalion and earned the ETO ribbon the good conduct medal the Victory ribbon and four battle stars.
